The story of Bison Bone begins in Oklahoma, where singer and guitarist Courtney Whitehead launched his music career playing at barnyard parties. Eventually Whitehead made his way to Denver, where he recruited singer Brianna Straut after watching her perform a Gillian Welch song at 3 Kings Tavern. -
We spoke with Whitehead ahead of his April 8 show at the hi-dive, about his songwriting roots, what he means by “cosmic country,” and why Bison Bone sang about eminent domain on one of the group's most affecting tracks. -

Bison Bone today releases its debut album, "History Of Falling." Recorded almost completely live in the studio, the record blends southern country with psychedelic and garage rock into a genre that singer and founder Courtney Whitehead dubs "cosmic country." -
