"The Dreaming | 06.09.15"

Spawned from the demise of Stabbing Westward, The Dreaming is ethereal hard rock at its finest.

Fubar, St. Louis
with Death Valley High, Blackdeth

Fubar rocked when The Dreaming took the stage Tuesday night. Spawned from the demise of Stabbing Westward, The Dreaming is ethereal hard rock at its finest. Touring in support of their latest opus, Rise Again, the band brought then new material to life, as well as a Stabbing Westward favorite or two.

The band raged into the opening track, their latest single, “Alone.” From the start, the band took over the stage with a definite presence. Christopher Hall is a vocal powerhouse with a great tone. He brought the material to life with a dead-on vocal attack. The band was tight and precise as they performed songs from the new album, as well as past releases. Scorching tracks like “Blink of an Eye,” “Kisses Taste like Death,” and the title track blazed from the speakers as the band gave us a high-energy set. Bassist Francessca D’Struct was of notable interest, fluently blazing through her bass lines with perfection.

Also taking the stage that night was San Francisco’s Death Valley High, a no-holds-barred rock juggernaut ready to rock the road. Composed of Reyka Osburn, Adam Bannister, Huffy Hafera, and Chris Sanders, the band has a signature sound, à la Wednesday 13 and the like, but with more sass. Their set was explosive and very enjoyable. Promoting their new album Positive Euth, they played tracks from the new release, as well as their 7” vinyl release, Survival Program. They have a bright future, indeed.

On the local front, St. Louis’s own Blackdeth graced the Fubar stage. Doomy and dark, Blackdeth is not just your typical doomsday metal band. The players approach their art with a hard-rock sensibility, not the usual cacophony of noise sometimes associated with this genre. Their material is dark, yet approachable. Guitarists Justin Keane and Eric Woods trade riffs that grind. Tight and on point, Blackdeth was a highlight of the evening. Their rhythm section, composed of Jeremy Phillips on bass and Aaron Matthews on drums, was impeccable, as the two are seriously talented. Phillips reminds me of a young Cliff Buton in style and delivery. A band to watch. (Support local music!)

Overall, a great show at a cool venue. | Marc Farr - Playback: STL

"...I have known Eric Woods, guitarist, for a few years now. Always passes the horns if we pass in a public spot, stops to say hi if he sees me at a concert, I was happy to be able to shoot his band Blackdeth finally! I really enjoyed what they were doing, now it’s been a while since the show so I apologize that I don’t remember their entire sound, though if I remember correctly it had a very Sabbath feel to it, which I was totally digging!" - Damnation Magazine

Bio

Since its conception in 2012, Blackdeth (formerly known as Bled from Earth) has been one of the highest-rated bands in the St. Louis Metal category, according to ReverbNation. They recently moved to Murray, Kentucky, and are working on getting established there.

"We do it out of love and passion, to bring new music to fans everywhere, and pour everything we have into it, just to give it all away to those who would choose to hear it. We bare our souls through this music for the whole world to see, to make a connection, and spread a message," with themes such as a warning not to fall victim to Satan (Father of Lies,) the dangers of using religion to justify unwarranted acts of violence (Killing in the Name of God,) betrayal of an intimate companion (Black Widow,) the complicated relationship with a loved one whom has passed away (I'll Bury You,) and even a tribute to the rock icons who have passed away (Sonate of the Undead.) Our influences include Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Metallica, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Black Label Society.

They have solidified their new line-up, and feature Utica, New York native and Disabled Drummers Association member Aaron Mathews on drums.

Justin Keane, vocals, guitar, and songwriting, Shreddy Krueger, the Dethmaster himself. The source of the dark veil over St. Louis.

Eric Woods, guitar. He commands and conquers all things metal- the reason he has balls of steel.

Jeremy Phillips sends a shattering shockwave of immeasurable unholy power through the air waves with legendary bass tones that have been known to crush souls!

Aaron Mathews, Minister of Deth, Blackdeth's keeper of time, reaping the beats for all eternity! His snare cracks like lightning and his kicks drop as the pendulum swings, no one will be spared from his cymbals' ring!

Are you prepared?! You've been warned! The Dethtoll Rises once more!!!
