"Review: "this is ME" EP by KARMAA"

KARMAA shows off her clever storytelling abilities on the soulful style of the “this is ME” EP . The word choice here is exceptional. By going for the macro approach of societal changes that need to happen, alongside the introspection of one’s own actions, there is an extreme honesty to the verses. Once this is pared alongside the crisp clean production, everything works together into a great vast network. Elements of trap, RnB, rock even, all of these get woven together in a way that truly feels distinct and highly thoughtful. - DOPECAUSEWESAID

"Great Karmaa"

Karmaa was one of my favourite discoveries of last year. A Californian based singer/rapper/songwriter, she released a string of excellent tracks including Hacerte, Get Loud and What Happened? Her energy, humour and determination shone through all of her tracks, but her new collection of tracks show another side of this talented artist. In her This is Me EP she explodes into 2022 with 5 songs about the effects of mental health issues in a searingly honest and straightforward insight. - David Pearce

"Get Karmaa"

I intend to be a difference maker and a leader of change. I've never been one to stick to the rules and never intend to follow the crowd. I was raised to be who I am and to be proud of it. My ultimate goal is to inspire the uninspired and change lives by being able to relate to others and talk about "taboo" topics that others don't like to or won't acknowledge and speak on such as being queer, battling depression and anxiety, having had suicidal thoughts, etc. - Minds Behind the Music

"KARMAA – Bye Haters"

This song is literally a reminder that no matter what the haters say, no matter how hard they attempt to get our attention, they will never live in our minds like we do in theirs rent free. - Lisa Steinberg

"Out Now: “Mmm Mmm” By Karmaa Prod: Infinite Beats"

You may have remarked that Karmaa is on our list of the best emerging artists for a while now. With incomparable productivity and creativity, the artist is not ready to slow down anytime soon.

"All About Karmaa"

The summer is a time of great times and great friends, both of which always include great music. As I have embarked on my journey of discovering new music and the creative visionaries behind the sound I recently stumbled upon KARMAA. - Diamond Kesawn

"Interview: KARMAA Talks About Her Brand New Album "this is ME""

“I wanted to create a project that would move people the way that movie moved me. Embracing every part of me and sharing the not so good parts of myself with the world to show that what they see on social media isn’t always what people are going through in life. ” - DOPECAUSEWESAID

"Artist About to Blast Off: Karmaa"

We’re all passionate, so we say, but Karmaa is built differently. If California born Karmaa were to lose her ability to make music, death would be the only option afterwards.

Current Texas resident has had music in her blood since day 1, from her musically inclined relatives to her rockstar parents, she was bound to become a recording artist.

“Music is in my blood,” said Karmaa. “My grandparents all sing and play instruments. My mom was an 80's/90's clubber, so we always had hip hop and rap and my dad was very rock and roll with a side of Kelly Clarkson. Music has always brought me joy and to be able to create it myself is exhilarating.”

Karmaa has been songwriting since she was 13 and views music as a way to express her feelings and emotions, she always saw it as a saving grace for her.

“Music has saved me time and time again,” said the California native. “It's always the easiest way for me to communicate my thoughts and feelings. It's how I express myself. To stop music for me would be the same as death.”

Although Karmaa has been songwriting since 13, she has only been creating and distributing music since 2017.

”I still have a long journey ahead of me,” said Karmaa. “[but] my first achievement was performing for the first time outside of karaoke. Dec 20, 2019, I got on stage and didn't forget a single word which was huge for me.”

Despite the obstacles 2020 has presented, Karmaa keeps cooking. With several months still left in the year, she has racked up a few notable accomplishments.

“My second biggest achievement was releasing my pride track WERKK,” said Karmaa. “I was scared it would diminish any career I could've potentially had, but I decided I won't hide who I am. I can't inspire the uninspired if I'm not myself and don't practice what I preach. My third [biggest achievement] was winning the award for "Best Pop Song" Spring 2020 from the World Songwriting Awards for the very song I was scared to release, WERKK.”

Karmaa describes her sound as original, unique, and relatable and has several artists such as Salt N Pepa, TLC and Missy Elliott to thank for what she has developed.

“Aaliyah, Kehlani, Camila Cabello and Russ are my go to inspirations when I'm in my feels,” said the songwriter. “I've always been inspired by RuPaul, Taylor Swift and Todrick Hall for being themselves even when people told them not to be. I admire that [and that] shows in my music.”

Karmaa is relentless and determined to use her natural talents and acquired skills to make releasing and writing music her undisputed career.

”I am only 3 years in and have done so much already,” said Karmaa. “I was destined for this and I’ll show everyone, including myself, that I was put here for this.”

Karmaa is poised for greatness and will rack up her good karma by saving and inspiring others who didn’t know they needed it. - Juwan Blaze

"Listen to KARMAA's Track "VICES", Off Her Newly Released EP "this is ME""

If you are a fan of Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, and Iggy Azalea, then you will love the newly released 5-track EP, “this is ME”, which was just dropped by Texas based artist and mental health advocate KARMAA. Speaking about her background and artistry, KARMAA says,

“KARMAA is only a small part of who I am and was brought here to be. Music has been a part of who I am since I can remember. It's like breathing for me. Whether I'm listening to the radio, creating music myself, or even thinking of lyrics, music just stays in circulation. It's how I communicate my deepest thoughts, my every goal, and my biggest fears. I am a big advocate for mental health awareness, equality and paying it forward." - DOPECAUSEWESAID

"Upcoming Artist KARMAA"

The name was created for two reasons. I mashed my first and middle name together (MAriAh KARen) and because my parents always said treat others the way you want to be treated because either way karma will catch you. - Ghxst

DCWS is excited to introduce you to Texas based artist KARMAA, who is also an advocate for mental health awareness, equality and paying it forward. She just dropped her brand new EP entitled “this is ME”, which addresses self realization and mental health. - DOPECAUSEWESAID

"MEET UPCOMING ARTIST: KARMAA"

Music is a part if me. It’s like breathing. Mama said I was singing and dancing before I was talking and walking. The deal was though, if I got my degree I could pursue whatever I want. So I got my degree and now my parents are my biggest supporters. My dad bought me my first MacBook Pro which is where I started with GarageBand. After shortly realizing I’m not patient enough to produce and too deaf to mix I branched out and started networking. Now music is just part of who I am and what I do. - ALANNA

"KARMAA on her creative tastes, musical influences & upcoming album “Come and Get It”"

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.

Hello! My name is KARMAA. I was born and raised in Cali but I currently reside in North Texas. My artist name is KARMAA for 2 reasons. 1. It’s my first and middle names combined. 2. I’ve always believed what goes around comes around.

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

Music has always been a part of me. My mom says even to this day that I was dancing and singing before I was walking and talking. As a kid I always sang in the shower and was always trying to copy Missy Elliott and Ciara’s dancing. In high school the show GLEE really helped me through some tough times. From there I believed I could make this dream a reality. My parents said before we could pursue dreams we needed a college degree so I graduated quickly and in 2017 decided this was what I needed and wanted to do.

Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?

I am not one to release few and far between. I am constantly releasing music. This upcoming album is very special to me. It is 16 songs, has 7 features between 6 tracks, and has hand selected beats. I decided that this project would be me taking my music back. I spent my first two years trying to fit in and be like everyone else that I had forgotten why I loved music. 2020 I decided to end that and made this album for me. It discusses my dreams, my fears, and my every thought. Every song is different and every song has a different vibe and message. It has something for everyone. Rap, EDM, Pop, R&B, etc.

What makes your music unique? And how would you describe it?

My music is unique in that I don’t sound like anyone else. I’m an LGBTQ+ rapper, singer, songwriter who creates to relate. Each song has a message of some sort. I don’t label myself or stick myself into any one genre either. I have rock, EDM, pop, rap, r&b, etc. I hate labels and I hate allowing anything to define me. I am simply me. Take it or leave it.

Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

I have so many influencers from Missy Elliott to the Goo Goo Dolls to Luke Bryan. I do find myself inspired mostly by Kehlani, Salt N Pepa, En Vogue, Madonna, Naya Rivera and the GLEE cast, Taylor Swift, Camila Cabello, Shakira, Bad Bunny, Iggy Azalea, Teyana Taylor, FLETCHER, Britney Spears, RUSS, New Radicals, cuppcakKe, 112, Keith Sweat and so many others. My TOP 5 MUST COLLAB WITH’s include: RUSS, Missy Elliott, Camila Cabello, Kehlani and Taylor Swift.

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

In June I released my song WERKK. I was hesitant to release it in fear of losing listeners. Then after talking with my momager, my engineers and a few artist friends I realized I would be doing myself a disservice by not releasing it. July 1, 2020 WERKK was awarded “Best Pop Song” by the World Songwriting Awards for Spring 2020. WERKK has accumulated nearly 100K streams on Spotify in the first 2 months. It was easily my most favorite track to create and I am proud to have created, released and helped others embrace themselves.

How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?

That’s easy. I’ve found myself surrounded by music lovers, creators, etc and people who fully support me and my music. I have also found myself removing myself from people who don’t support me or my music. The world is already so hateful and ugly that I would prefer my small circle to be filled with love and positivity. I am blessed to have such a loving and supportive family and I find balancing life easier because of it.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

The advice I wish someone had given me starting out, which is to just be yourself. Embrace who you are and create shamelessly. Invest in your music, your health, and your happiness. If you’re happy with your music it shows and attracts others to you and your music. So simply be you.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

My message to anyone, fan or not, is that if you ever feel alone, you feel depressed, anxious, etc that my dm’s are always open. I will always be a shoulder to cry on, a person of support no matter the circumstance and I will always maintain a judgment free zone. You are not alone. You are loved and highly favored. Lastly, you is kind, you is smart and you is important. Don’t forget that.

What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?

My upcoming album releases on my 28th birthday which is October 7. The album is titled Come and Get It. The deluxe version of the album is set to release January 1, 2021. Like I said this project is important to me and is me taking my music back. I hope you all love it as much as I do! - XTTRAWAVE
