  • Chelly K was born and raised in Detroit and started her career at the age of 5 under the direction and teaching of her father Joseph Bell Norris who was a Motown Engineer and personal engineer for the Temptation at Motown as well as on tour. Chelly's first performance included performances at Downtown Kennedy Square as well as, The Rita Bell Show along with her three brothers and her father accompanying her on the piano. Her credits include; Background vocals for Melvin Van Peoples, Luther Ingram and she has opened for Marlena Shaw, Marion Meadows, The Temptation Review and The Spinners just to name a few. She has had the pleasure of performing with live bands such as The Gordon Camp Band, The V.I.P Band, Bob White And The Hasting Street Blues band and many more. She has graced the stage at various prestigious clubs such as, Bomacs, Bakers Keyboard Lounge, Cliff Bells, Bert's Market Place \ Theater, The Dirty Dog and Black Bottom just stating a few. She has performed on legendary stages such as: ● City Of Detroit African American Festival ( Main Stage) ● The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre Hype For Peace concert sponsored by WJLB Radio and Shantinque's records. ● The Museum Of African American History Jazz Bash ● A Duet Performance with Brian McKnight at the legendary Fox Theater ● Grenada in the Caribbean Islands as the first International Jazz vocalist And she have received just to name a few awards to her credit such as; ● Detroit City Council Award Of Recognition for The Diva Project ( Spirit Award) ● State Of Michigan Hug Detroit Woman Of Influence Award - Isaac Robinson State Representative The Fourth District ● The Michigan Senate Recognition from the honorable- Coleman A Young ll State Senator 1st district ● Detroit Black Music Best Jazz Vocalist 2011 ● Associate's Degree in Medical Science- Ultimate Medical Academy ● Graduate of Randolph Vocational School for Carpentry in construction. Chelly is also known around Detroit for helping to bring Karaoke for the first time with Star Time, to the Black bars and clubs a little over 20 years ago. She writes most of her own songs and attributes Nancy Wilson and Phyllis Hyman as her musical influences. She is currently working with and being produced by the Legendary Grammy award winner songwriter/producer John Glover, who has wrote hits like: ~ You Don't Have To Be A Star ~What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted ~ Memories Don't Leave Like People Do along with over 400 hundred more songs. She has also been blessed to work with highly professional and talented people such as; Randy Holloway, Ralph Armstrong, Martha Reeves, James Carter, Harold and Gaylynn McKinney, Jack Hall, Teddy Harris, Rudy Robinson, Bill Meyer, Johnny O'Neal, Gerard Gibbs, Gene Dunlap, David Miles and the Milestones, Ramona Collins, Joan Crawford, Thronetta Davis-Anderson, Willie Jones, Milton and Phillip Hale, Sky Covington, Larry Smith, Robert Jones, Ibrahim Jones, Chris Codish, Rick Jones and many many more.Chelly K is presently the Vice President of WJZZ Detroit Radio and working on a new CD with her son Justin who is playing the piano and producing some music.
