Bio

Born Camila Sims, Convict Julie is from the west-side of Atlanta but has spent the past four years in Athens, GA. She is a singer, producer, poet and a fighter. Her name, inspired by a little-known African fish spotted at the Tennessee Aquarium, represents her spirit. No matter how small the fish or how big the pond, Convict Julie knows that she can always stand out.

Originally hailing from Atlanta, Camilla Sims, known as Convict Julie has spent the past four years carving out a musical niche in Athens GA: a majority-white college town whose music scene is rooted in alt-rock, she has never resonated with this little fish even more. She is a singer’s singer. Her songs create stories, delivering messages and affirmation to her listeners. Her voice incorporates the range of The Weeknd with the purposeful looseness of Lauryn Hill. The 22-year-old meshes the galvanizing intimacy of a 1960s ballroom songstress with the new-school swagger of a rising rap star. Backed by her unparalleled vocals and her skill in songwriting, she is able to captivate listeners and incite emotions within them in a way only true artists could. She can belt out a tear-jerking ballad about her broken heart (“Tell Me Lies”) as naturally as she can craft a punk song about breaking an enemy’s (“Drive Bys On Tractors”).

Convict Julie’s artistry and activism led to her being featured on the cover of the most popular magazines in Athens, GA- Flagpole, has sold out popular Athens venues including the Georgia Theatre and the iconic 40 Watt club. With her exciting new album coming soon, built to inspire, Convict Julie is becoming a major force in the r&b scene.
