"Coral Moons frontwoman Carly Kraft brings ‘70s soul to band’s debut release"

Boston-based indie rock band Coral Moons, led by vocalist Carly Kraft, first made their appearance on 88.9 WERS’s Wicked Local Wednesday back in 2019. Following their single “Fall in Love,” the band reached nearly 55,000 streams on Spotify and released their EP, “Quarter Life Crisis,” produced by Sam Kassirer of Great North Sound Society studio in Maine, who is known for his work with alternative multi-genre band Lake Street Drive. Coral Moons snagged 2020 Boston Music Award nominations for Alt/Indie Artist of the Year and Video of the Year for their single, “Winnebago.”

The four-piece band’s debut album, “Fieldcrest,” drops Aug. 6, the same night they’ll play their first Boston show since the pandemic started, at Aeronaut Allston. Coral Moons partnered with the brewery to release a collaborative beer, raising funds for the National Independent Venues Association in support of the many small music venues struggling during the pandemic. We spoke with Kraft ahead of the band’s upcoming tour and album release.

"Coral Moons on the rise as indie rock band to watch"

Coral Moons singer Carly Kraft says goodbye to her childhood home on the title track of her new LP “Fieldcrest.” Kraft opens the tender track indulging in nostalgia — ruminations about raiding her parents’ liquor cabinet, campfires with friends. But midway through the track, the narrative falls away as the singer howls over and over again, “We got old.” Around her voice, the band whips up in a mighty crest of volume. - The Boston Herald

"Bands You Should Know — Coral Moons"

Quincy-based band Coral Moons stopped by 88.9 WERS to play a live mix for Wicked Local Wednesday. After their performance, the group talked to WERS’ Lily Doolin about their latest EP Quarter Life Crisis, some of their first songs that are now “forbidden,” and how the band was almost called “Cold Waffles.” - WGBH - NPR

"CARLY KRAFT IS OFF AND RUNNING AS CORAL MOONS SHINE ON ‘FIELDCREST’ (PREMIERE + INTERVIEW)"

She probably didn’t know it 17 months ago, but Coral Moons frontwoman-lead singer Carly Kraft emerged from 2020 with a celebratory song to signify the joyous and liberating feeling of a breakthrough move — whether it involved escaping the confining chains of haunting memories or a global pandemic.

Now Kraft, with her uninhibited, powerhouse delivery, is able to unleash the words to “I Feel Alive” as Boston-based Coral Moons present the music video premiere of the soaring rock track today at PopMatters. It comes about a week away from the 6 August release of Fieldcrest, their full-length album debut.

The song, co-written with Coral Moons lead guitarist-vocalist-songwriter Justin Bartlett (who began a personal relationship with Kraft before the indie band’s formation in 2018), took on new meaning during the Year of COVID-19.

In an email interview for this article accompanying the premiere, Kraft reveals, “We were just leaving Boston at the start of the pandemic [in March 2020] and I started writing this song as a farewell tune, in a way. But we were so scared to leave our city for something different and that’s when the song turned into a personal anthem for me. It was like a bad-ass way to just go do the thing you want to do.” - Pop Matters

Bio

Coral Moons brings their signature blend of retro-rock and surf-pop to the indie stage, drawing influences from Maggie Rogers, Lake Street Dive, and the Alabama Shakes.

In August of 2021 the band released their highly anticipated debut album Fieldcrest: a full-length LP produced by Sam Kassirer of Great North Sound Society (ME), best known for his work with Lake Street Dive and Josh Ritter. The release led them to stages around New England and beyond, playing Levitate Music Festival, Boston Calling and opening for numerous nationally touring acts including Ripe, David Shaw (Revivalists), AHI, and Motel Radio.

Fieldcrest is a departure from the band’s early work but maintains the identity that makes them unique. Coral Moons’ debut record was born in the studio which allowed them to explore the depths of their sonic palette through dense synth pads, exploratory drums tones, and nostalgic songwriting. Fieldcrest is an album that focuses on the human experience while exploring many familiar topics such as childhood memories and daydreaming.
