"Hip-Hop to the top."

During the 1970s when block parties became increasingly popular in New York City, particularly among African-American youth living in the Bronx, hip-hop music and culture formed and received much positive reception. Block parties included DJs who would isolate the percussive breaks of popular songs.

"MIDWEST AUDIO THERAPY: Dakotah “Faye” Poitra “No Break” (Feat. Kashy) (Prod. Kashy)"

Hailing from Minot, ND, Dakota “Faye” Poitra, is a heavy hitter for the underground rap sound. His growing popularity is fueled not only by his distinguished sound, but by his axiom: “I just wanna have fun, make music, and turn the F*** UP!”

His latest single “No Break”, released off his upcoming EP “Lead by Ex(s)ample” is one for the daily grind, following your dreams and everything else in between. Featuring artist and producer, “Kashy”, the track delivers a lyrically sharp banger that definitely hits on all cylinders.

You can catch Faye and the rest of the Money Stackz Entertainment crew opening for Funk Volume (Hopsin, Dizzy Wright, & Jarren Benton) on Sept. 22nd, at the Bismark Civic Center in Bismark, ND.

Meanwhile, check out “No Break” and download it for FREE on SoundCloud. Let us know what you think! - Shannon Detlefsen

"Dakotah Faye “Somethin” EXCLUSIVE Release featuring Jeremiah Stokes & Baby Shel #TheIndieBooth"

Dakotah Faye is a creative being hailing from North Dakota with a distinctive way of getting his point across. His journey in becoming a recorded artist started just a few years ago, and has prospered into him becoming an established artist within North Dakota and connected states. He first grabbed my attention releasing his single “Hey Arnold” due to me being a ‘Hey Arnold’ junkie. He recently released a thirteen track album titled “Lead By Ex(s)ample” which was Faye’s fifth solo album.

Now he is releasing something exclusively with us featuring two additional musicians making waves in their cities. Faye hits the scene with his new record “Somethin” featuring Jeremiah Stok3s, Baby Shel from Minneapolis, and produced by Borud Beats.

“The concept of the song is basically jealousy in the air but it could be taken a lot of ways. With verses from Jeremiah and Baby Shel it really came together as their different styles turned the song into something completely different than I first intended.” – Faye

“The song was like a lyrical Russian Roulette; I had no idea what to expect from the other two because Dakotah had sent me the beat first before anyone to my knowledge,” says Stokes who is captured in the middle below. You wouldn’t even be able to tell how absent his expectations were from the sound of it being like the three gentleman were in the studio together compiling the collaboration piece by piece. Promo Goddess: How did you get into music?
Dakotah Faye: My brother Eddie Mack and I started recording music in 2008. We started our crew/label Money Stackz Ent. Which we still rep to this day even though it means something different to us now.
PG: How would you describe your sound and why?
Faye: I’d say it’s very diverse. Some days I rap old school, other days I trap and use newer rhyme schemes. Just depends how I’m feeling. It’s been important to me to not put myself in a box and stick to one style. I just listen to so many different genres and sub-genres. If I was in Wu-Tang, I’d definitely be chameleon style.
PG: You have had the opportunity working with a few notable names such as Dizzy Wright, Twista, MGK, and a few more. What was it like working with them?
Faye: A huge blessing! I’ve had all those guys on my iPod even before I worked with them so to meet them and see how they are in person was incredible. Some more humble or outgoing then others but I understand a little more now that I’m getting more known for my music. The opportunity those things give you help immensely. Just to have a huge crowd of people that have never heard you is amazing and I’m very thankful.
PG: Out of all the musicians you have worked with, who would be your top favorite?
Faye: I got so many favorites and friends I’ve made but if I had to pick one…Kashy. He’s also a local North Dakota artist like me and I’ve gotten the chance to do a project with him (MFC) and also tour with Krayzie Bone with him. Just a super humble and talented guy. Also can take a joke and dish them out even better so we mix well.
PG: From your perspective, how do you feel about the indie hip hop scene?
Faye: I just love when people are passionate about something and especially music so it’s awesome to see. North Dakota didn’t have much as I was growing up so now it seems we actually have a scene and I can’t complain. I feel a lot of people take this as a sport and competition which is fine but my perception of hip-hop is a lot different. I started making music for myself first and foremost so I say if you’re doing it for the right reasons, which is up to yourself, then I got love for you.

PG: What do you bring to the table that separates you from other musicians?
Faye: My insane work ethic. What I’m willing to do to achieve what I’m trying to achieve. Whether it be driving thousands of miles a month for shows, videos, etc. To stay up all night to finish songs, emails, mixes, etc. and still having to go to my regular job. It’s all worth it to me. Music being my career has been my dream since I was very young so my ambition draws people. My constant need to improve and my positive outlook on life. I stick to my shit and I support anything else. Law of Attraction.
PG: You just released a project titled “Lead By Ex(s)ample” and the structure of the title has me curious so explain the album from the title to its development.
Faye: So it honestly started as a mixtape. Comprised of sampled beats of my favorite songs growing up. As it developed it changed dramatically but I keep the title because I really liked it. It’s just a combination of practicing what you preach and taking samples from your past and present to make your future.
PG: Where can the project be purchased?
Faye: You can the full version off my Bandcamp, but the shorter version is available on iTunes, Google Play, Spotify and YouTube. - Promo Goddess
