"Ear to the Sound: Deify"

Saving rock and roll is a heavy task to take on, but on their new release, "So Far Away", Deify prove that they have the chops to face that challenge. Their new EP is spectacular, taut, and so compelling that it might just renew your faith in the power of rock.

The guitar licks, played by Duncan Byargeon, sound massive and swell up in layered sonic textures, elevating every chorus into a torrent of sludge, warm tube tones, and creamy goodness that will make you head bang your way through all 5 songs on "So Far Away". And Byargeon's voice is a fresh take on rock, elevating while never emulating the giants of the genre that have gone before. This is unmistakably a rock album, but it's also a nuanced evolution for the band and the genre, proving that rock still has room to grow.

Duncan (voice, guitars) and Jared (drums) are brothers, and their bond shines through in the tightness of their musicality. The songs are carefully crafted with attentive, sparkling, polished production, while never glossing over the band's kinetic live energy. This isn't a barrage of noise. It's a wall of sonic force textured and molded into a cohesive musical vision, that still impressively reproduces the feeling of hearing Deify live. "So Far Away" proves that Deify knows exactly who they are, what they want to say, and how they want to say it.

In summary, if you're a rocker, there's a lot to love on Deify's new release, "So Far Away". If you're not already a fan of the genre, "So Far Away" might be the EP that ignites your connection to the heavy sound of distorted guitars and thumbing drums of rock and roll. Catch Deify live at Tim's Tavern on February 8th for the release of "So Far Away" (EDIT: Show is sold out). In addition to their live set, they'll be giving out downloadable copies of the new EP. - Rain City Collective

"Deify Tells Us How They "Missed My Shot""

Deify is a rock band based in Seattle, WA comprised of two brothers, Duncan (vocals/guitar) and Jared (drums/percussion) Byargeon. Inspired by AC/DC, Deify delivers a fresh take on rock n roll with a Seattle flare that’s sure to keep you dancing. In the years to come, the band’s live performances have been the driving force behind their success. Playing for some of the most renowned bars and clubs in Seattle, drawing comparisons to Velvet Revolver, Queens of the Stone Age, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Operating out of their parents’ basement, the band has spent the past decade performing around the greater Pacific Northwest. The band spent the better half of 2018 in the studio to bring their most popular songs to life.

Let rock! This track, which is track 5 on their EP So Far Away - by the way, is a classic rocker! We love everything about this one. The drums banging in heavy, the electric guitars raspy blare, Then you hear those vocals WHOA! Can we say jam session. You can tell they know what they are doing and are seasoned artists in the rock game. And the fact that they both bring something unique being from the same bloodline. They stand out together and individually which is tough with smaller bands. These brothers are the real deal and such a cool clean-cut rock band. - BuzzMusic LA

"100 Bands in 100 Days Presented by Verity Credit Union — Day 21: Deify"

Inspired by the rock acts of the 70s and 80s, Deify delivers a modern blues-rock sound with smooth riffs, high energy drumming, and heartfelt story telling with a Northwest twist. The band’s latest release, The Masquerade is the first set recorded work to only feature Duncan (Vocals/Guitar/Bass) and Jared (Drums/Percussion).

The band was founded in 2008 by three brothers. After approximately five years of performing around the greater Seattle area, the band released its debut record “Between the Lines” which was recorded in the family basement. Following the release of the album, Deify embarked on a small tour of the Pacific Northwest.

In the Fall of 2015, Erik (the bassist of the group) departed from the band, leading to a two year hiatus. It was time to reinvent.

After two years of hard work, writing and recording, The Masquerade is a collection of 11 original songs with a focused blues rock/hard rock delivery. With its release, the band is revitalized and ready to rock n roll. - Northwest Music Scene

"Last Week on Project Social: Deify"

The ambitious rock duo Deify, comprised of brothers Duncan and Jared Byargeon, started out as a budding pop punk band and have recently transformed into a blues rock unit. Their latest self-released album, “The Masquerade” dropped in August.

Duncan Byargeon spoke on-air last Thursday about the album. He said that his latest goal in the writing process is to clearly convey complex emotions not only through lyrics, but through accompaniment. His lyrical inspirations come from themes of politics and love. Byargeon said that love can show itself in many forms, which takes maturity to acknowledge.

“You’re going to ride out the highs and lows,” Byargeon said about his experience with love. “If you listen to music, everything is tied to it in some way. Even songs that are aggressive and angry, I bet you 50 percent of those songs, or something like that, are based on a relationship.”

Deify played a Hurricane Irma relief show at High Dive last month, and they hope to book more shows in the Seattle area. Byargeon also plans to experiment with a stripped acoustic sound, and is excited to continue making new music.

Deify’s new album “The Masquerade” can be found on Spotify, iTunes, and Amazon Music.

Project Social is a local music talk show on KXSU 102.1FM hosted by Haley Witt and Marc Gleckman. Project Social aims to deconstruct barriers between audiences and musicians by encouraging artists to speak more intimately about their lives and personal values. Project Social airs every Thursday from 7-8pm. - KXSU Seattle

Overview

Deify is a rock band hailing from Seattle, WA. The band's sound has been compared to Queens of the Stone Age, Velvet Revolver, and Slash, with a tinge of AC/DC.

Biography

Born and raised on classic rock and “the 80s”, the Byargeon brothers founded Deify before any of them were old enough to drive. Inspired by the bluesy grooves of AC/DC, storytelling of Tom Petty, and edge of early grunge, the band delivers a fresh take on rock n roll, with a Seattle flare that’s sure to keep you tapping your toes.

Over the years, the band’s live performance has been the driving force behind their success around the Pacific Northwest, playing some of the most renowned bars and clubs in Seattle, drawing comparisons to Velvet Revolver, Queens of the Stone Age, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Until now, the band operated out of their childhood basement, from which they released two albums, Between the Lines (2014). and The Masquerade (2017). Going into the band’s 10th year, they’ve graduated to professional recording studios and are set to release multiple works throughout 2019.

So Far Away EP

The "So Far Away" EP, the band’s debut studio recording, is designed as a mini-memoir about DB's year-long, long-distance relationship. Rain City Collective described it as “unmistakably a rock album, but also a nuanced evolution for the band and the genre, proving that rock still has room to grow”. We’d like to think so too. Being that they put it so nicely, we’ll let them close out our bio as well: “if you're a rocker, there's a lot to love on Deify's new release, "So Far Away". If you're not already a fan of the genre, "So Far Away" might be the EP that ignites your connection to the heavy sound of distorted guitars and thumbing drums of rock and roll”.
