The best kept secret in music
Press
Self-described as ‘Ewoks operating the Death Star after a long night of Ewok partying’, Desilu, is an enticing blend of sonic reverb and angst-fueled garage rock that coalesces into a cosmic punk opera. Desilu’s recently released 4th album, Claws, springs from the eternal well of Austin influenced psychedelia but succeeds in cross-pollinating punk influences like the Black Lips, Jay Reatard, and Wavves into the genome as well. Jangled keys, winding guitars, and chanted vocals feels like a train on the verge of derailing at any moment, but this quintet of Austin vagabonds keep the momentum moving forward. Recent additions of keyboardist, Chris Horne, and guitarist, Joe Pechacek, may be the extra layers needed to complete this unique but pleasantly entrancing avant-garde outfit.

Bio
Desilu was created in Minnesota by childhood friends Darryl Shaw-Rockley and Joe Johnson as a college side project. The original
concept for Desilu was to build a collective, open forum of
song-writers who could support each other musically and explore various
avenues of creativity. The early days of Desilu produced a unique sound
blending elements of Trip-Hop and Folk music.
Prior to
relocating to Austin, TX in 2011, Desilu was joined by Tyrone Webster on
drums, as the band gravitated to an edgier psychedelic blues and garage
rock sound.
With the introduction of Joe Pechacek on lead
guitar, and a rotating list of musicians on synth and keys, Desilu
evolved its sonic capabilities with songs bridging a divide between
Country minimalism and Psychedelic walls of sound, all the while
maintaining powerful multipart vocal harmonies.
Desilu’s
influences are eclectic in the truest sense and include Blur, Elvis
Costello, Low, Radiohead, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Bowie, Ian Dury and
the Blockheads, Pixies, Beck, Portishead, Flaming Lips, Jay Reatard,
Howlin’ Wolf, Gorillaz, The Jam, and a lot of Hip-Hop and Rap.
Desilu sounds like nothing else, other than possibly the sum of all the
music we listen to, absorb, and discover experimentally.
Enjoy!
