"Whurk - Album Roundup"

For someone who claims that “all language is dead to me,” Phil Green (AKA Dogfuck) sure has a lot to say. This fifteen-minute hip hop mixtape has the spastic too-smart-for-his-own-good lyricism of MC Paul Barman, a frenetic assault of self-loathing, political commentary, and nerdcore weirdness. The latter is best represented with this laugh-out-loud hook: “Future / living in a spaceship / you can fuck your spaceship / most just fuck their spaceship.” The dense rhyme structure, dystopian beats, and fast-paced transitions will all but force you to listen to Rectangle straight through in one go. Flip the record. -

"Secret Bonus Level 10/6/17"

"I don’t think we’ve ever heard beats by Dogfriend before, and he was totally using his banana scoops too. The first beat he played of the evening was so unusual that Silke admitted some difficulty rapping to it. I really liked that beat too, and it’s a good example of what I’m talking about here. Rhythmic, tonal or structural absurdities that put the pickles in your ice cream have a way of drawing you in, making you want to hear and know more about what you’re listening to, because you realize someone’s had insight, good reason to pursue something that seems utterly preposterous. Innovations like those outshine the genre aspect of these beats to the point that you sort of forget genre is even a thing for a second while you’re listening to it. Oh, and Dogboyfriend put some video game noises in it for me too. I like those. Bloo-dud-oodle-BLOOP! Bla-RA-AH-ANG!" - "The Secret Bonus Level" - WRIR

Bio

"But the more we see Dog[fuck] do his thing, he’s starting to almost
feel like he’s not even really a rapper. He’s like a poet or performance
artist using rap as his primary medium. He’s like a crazy Batman of
Zur-en-arrh making a rainbow batsuit out of scraps of rags he’s found in
the alleys of our city’s orange streetlights. His lyrics are like
Rorschach’s diary. Weird, slightly disturbing stories wrought with
uncouth imagery and words a normal brain wouldn’t put together."
