With the release of the A Colour album, Five Mile Float brings a new feel to a classic genre. Lush with addicting guitar hooks, powerful pop rhythms, and an alternative edge, the record boasts the aesthetic of indie rock anthems. Although the songs are diverse from one another, there is a glue that holds it all together much like a concept album would. Most importantly, the record never lose sight of the emotional platform great songs are built from.

The first single, “Loose Interpretations”, is an instant indie pop classic. Complete with a fun upswing attitude, catchy choruses, and an alla around danceable rhythm, the songs seems to build and breathe as it plays on.

“Loose Interpretations kinda refers to interpreting the way things should be opposed to the way things are. It's a naive look at the future. Looking back at it, the song should be called ‘Loose Expectations’ (laughs) We felt that the guitar hook and vocal melody are some of our strongest to date. This song is a good representation of the feeling and style that's displayed in the rest of the album,” explains songwriter Zack Block of the bands single.

Although the single does speak volumes for the record, to get a real understanding of where Five Mile Float are coming from, it should be heard in its entirety.

“I think ‘A Colour’ as an album is a stronger attempt at song writing. I think we're definitely maturing in the process of songwriting. And we're starting to focus more on catchy pop melodies and poppy hooks in our songs. Melodic hooks and dynamic contrast are both present throughout the album. We really try to utilize piano in our music. Parts that could be lead guitar hooks, we try to move to piano. We also pull a lot of influence from driving guitars and drums from early surf rock. we’re huge Dick Dale fans!,” says the band of their album and evolution in songwriting.

After playing in a punk band together from 2011 through 2013, both Zack Block and Matt Ehasz continued writing and playing together. Once Block starting finding bands like Neutral Milk Hotel, the genre influenced him to change his writing style. Soon after, they began Five Mile Float. After some lineup changes, the band put together an demo and was later signed to DCS Records, the full length release was born.

The A Colour album is now available for streaming and download on most major digital outlets and the band planning an upcoming tour in June through Colorado, Utah, Washington, Oregon, and California in support of their release.
