"Float Like A Buffalo - Enjoy The Ride"

Denver’s Float Like A Buffalo has released a new EP, Enjoy The Ride. The release begins with Whiskey Dreams, a track which calls forth comparisons to acts like The White Stripes and the Drive-By Truckers. Brooding bass lines blend with punchy drums and sizzling guitar work to tell more with the opening minute of instrumental arrangements than many artists could do in the course of an album. Tremendous charisma bubbles through during Enjoy the Ride, which showcases an act that effortlessly blends together indie rock, punk, and alt-country styles.

This Moment is a bouncy effort that will tattoo its drum/guitar dynamic deep into the psyche of fans. A beautiful production allows each element of Float Like A Buffalo to shine while contributing to an overall sound. A punchy start-stop drum piece immediately precedes an infectious set of guitar riffs, changing things up considerably and ensuring that fans will be at the edges of their seats until the end of this five-plus minute effort.

Dr.’s Orders is a chugging piece of stripped down rock music that unites the 1980s work of Motley Crue, the raw appeal of Glenn Danzig’s vocals, and intellectually engaging arrangements.

Smile for the Cameras acts as a microcosm of the styles that FLaB offers on the earlier sections of the disc.

Float Like a Buffalo is an extremely tight and close-knit band that creates something wholly unique on their new EP. Over the course of this EP, fans will receive an introduction and education into one of the most exciting bands that we have heard so far this autumn. Whether it be taking up jam styles, Detroit rock or contemplative approaches to their music, Float Like a Buffalo is able to keep the energy high and the music complex and rewarding. Check them out.

"Float Like A Buffalo - Enjoy The Ride"

Float Like A Buffalo embraces a celebratory, carefree spirit on “Enjoy the Ride”. Lyrically they embrace a sense of optimism in the future, as their highly articulate storytelling gives small snapshots from a life lived most fully. How they are able to tie in small moments to a large scope on how life comes together feels quite honest. Attention to detail means that they are able to employ a sense of play throughout, from the jubilant rhythms to the guitar solos woven within the sound’s DNA. Elements of psychedelic rock, indie rock, with a hint of funk tying it all together making it radiate with pure joy.

The song wastes no time jumping into the thick of things. Guitars come into bloom quite quickly before the vocals enter the mix. Lyrics serve as the heart and center of the song. Small, little details from relationships appear out of the narrative. Upon painting a picture of a mellow kind of life the song zooms out to reveal a greater focus on the larger things, the goals and path of life. By the latter half of the song Float Like A Buffalo turns the volume up, way up, until it is a positively exuberant rush of sound. For their finale everything simply soars into the sky showing off their undeniable chops as they truly cut loose.

Infinitely catchy and downright joyful, Float Like A Buffalo’s “Enjoy the Ride” is a truly inspirational, welcoming piece of pop.

"Float Like a Buffalo -Enjoy The Ride"

"Float Like A Buffalo (FLB) is a “mile high city” rock band whose latest EP, Enjoy The Ride, is one of the best I’ve heard thus far for fall 2016. Rock music is one of those genres where, if your band sucks people can hear it immediately. Fortunately for FLB, this isn’t something they have to worry about." -

"Music Review : Float Like a Buffalo"

Denver-based Cory Pearman (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Garrett Achten (percussion, backing vocals), Phil Pleckham (drums), Evan Crabdree (lead guitar), and Jason Clukies (bass) released in September 2016 a five-track EP titled Enjoy the Ride. The title does lead one to think of said ride being taken on the back of a buffalo—or at least, it does for this reviewer.
The core message of this collection is directly connected to the title: to let go and enjoy the ride. It is a very relatable core message and the choice of a fusion of rock, funk, blues, and folk to deliver it is quite à propos. The foundation, however, seems to be older types of alternative rock. The quintet keeps the momentum strong throughout the EP, thus infusing it with hope. Pearman and Achten’s vocals seem to draw from a limitless fountain of energy.
The acoustic guitar-opening “Whiskey Dreams” is quickly taken over by a stomping, thumping drum beat and sharp, cutting electric guitar work. Each instrument, as well as the vocals, can easily be followed individually, giving listeners a great appreciation for the talent behind each layer, but it is also easy to step back and enjoy the entire thing as a whole. “Enjoy the Ride” has an interesting mix of old school and modern sounds coming together seamlessly. The bass comes through particularly well in this number, making an indelible mark, but that isn’t to say that the electric guitar and drumming don’t make quite the mark as well.
The poignant storytelling in “This Moment” is supported with a toe-tapping melody. While the story is a little sad, the overall effect is one of optimism. This detached, yet honest look at the mistake of letting opportunities slip away makes of this track a raw but uplifting one. A thumping, uptempo drum-led beat opens up a hard rock-flavoured number—that features what sounds like cow bell. This dynamic and energetic number also features from great harmonisation from Pearman and Achten as well as an electric guitar that oozes with attitude.

The funk flavour in “Smile for the Cameras” makes it particularly infectious. The tongue-in-cheek lyrics and the self-mocking vocals give it a sound unique on this EP. There is no way feet won’t be a-tapping during this one.
This is a very enjoyable EP well worth picking up. Tracks are available for streaming on SoundCloud. More information about the band is available on their official website as well as on their Facebook page. - Sahar

"Float Like a Buffalo - Interview"

After a week like this past one, it’s been a pleasure to lay back with the fine tunes of Denver’s own Float Like A Buffalo (Cory Pearman, Garrett Achten, Evan Crabdree, Jason Clukies, Phil Pleckham) – a funky rock n’ blues band that’s been steadily gaining attention and accolades throughout most of the west. Their sound is parts energetic, parts chill, and all a good time – a description evident after a listen to their latest EP, Enjoy The Ride.

Float Like A Buffalo1We asked the guys about the new music – Cory told us, “Each song on the release was written at different times. I wrote all the songs except for ‘Dr’s Orders’ over the course of a couple years for a solo acoustic guitar act. The rest of the band just made the songs that much better. Garrett, our percussionist penned ‘Dr’s Orders’. People can expect to hear something original, yet familiar. Lyrics that you can relate to and rhythms you can dance to.” It’s an excellent ride – click to http://www.floatlikeabuffalomusic.com/ to sample some of Enjoy The Ride for yourself. It’s just a matter of time before a fresh full-length album hits shelves from Float Like A Buffalo. Now, keep reading, and relax a bit while ingesting this latest set of XXQs.

XXQs: Float Like A Buffalo

PensEyeView.com (PEV): How would you describe your sound?

Cory Pearman (CP): We are mostly a rock band with funk, blues and folk influences in our sound.

PEV: What kind of music were you all into growing up? Do you remember your first concert?

CP: We all grew up listening to a lot of different music but we can all agree that Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews, Jack White, and Foo Fighters have been mainstays in our playlists. My first concert ever was seeing Foreigner with my Dad at McNichols Sports Arena here in Denver.

PEV: What can fans expect from a live Float Like A Buffalo show?

CP: A whole lot of energy! We dance and jump around all show long and we love it when our fans jump and dance and sing along with us. It’s kind of like a cardio workout for everyone!

PEV: How did you come up with the name of your band?

CP: We got the name of the band from a Dead Weather song called “Cut Like A Buffalo”. We just liked Float Like A Buffalo better.

PEV: What is the underlying inspiration for your music? Where do you get your best ideas for songs?

CP: Our music is written based on everyday life. Our lyrics have a lot to do with what we have done or seen in our lifetimes. Sometimes the best ideas for songs come when you’re on a hiking trail by yourself. We just always want to make music that people can relate to.

Float Like A Buffalo3PEV: What’s one thing we’d be surprised to hear about the members of Float Like A Buffalo?

CP: I’m almost 40 years old while the rest of the band is in their mid-20s. And we’re all secretly in love with Justin Timberlake’s music.

PEV: What can fans expect from your latest release, Enjoy The Ride? Tell us about the writing process behind this work.

CP: Each song on the release was written at different times. I wrote all the songs except for “Dr’s Orders” over the course of a couple years for a solo acoustic guitar act. The rest of the band just made the songs that much better. Garrett, our percussionist penned “Dr’s Orders”. People can expect to hear something original, yet familiar. Lyrics that you can relate to and rhythms you can dance to.

PEV: What can we find each of you doing in your spare time, aside from playing/writing music?

CP: Well we all still have regular jobs as well. Jason, Phil, and I are bartenders. Garrett is a waiter, and Evan works on a horse ranch taking care of horses and running the property. We all love to snowboard as well. And we see a lot of live music. Gotta support your local music scene!

PEV: Name one present and past artist or group that would be your dream collaboration. Why?

CP: Red Hot Chili Peppers. Those guys are pretty much our heroes. If we’re talking past musicians, probably Stevie Ray Vaughn. I think we could have a great time onstage with him if we could concentrate on playing and not just watching with dropped jaws.

Float Like A Buffalod-1PEV: Is there an up and coming band or artist you think we should all be looking out for now?

CP: Well obviously Float Like A Buffalo is at the top of that list in our opinion! But we’re also big fans of local Denver bands like CITRA, The Hollow, Richie Allen & The Bad Ideas, Electrohawk, and This Side Of Paradise. Not sure if Lettuce and The Motet are still up and coming but if you’re not listening to them, you’re missing out!

PEV: So, what is next for Float Like A Buffalo?

CP: Lots of shows! Our favorite thing is playing live music. We’ve also been writing new material the past couple of weeks. We’re maybe thinking of getting back in the recording studio in the spring to do a full length album. But right now, we just wanna rock some faces!

Based out of Denver, Colorado, Float like a Buffalo can be described as a rock band with some funk, blues, and a bit of folk thrown in there for good measure; a very unique sound that is sure to get you dancing.  The band is known for their incredibly high energy shows which has earned them a reputation of being "currently the best Denver has to offer."

Hailing mostly from Denver, CO (Phil is from Illinois), Cory, Jason, Evan and Garrett founded the band after jamming together in the beginning of 2015; they knew they had something special. After some time and parting ways with a few members,  the group added Phil early in 2016 and have been a non-stop machine since, winning titles and playing at some of Denver's most eclectic venues.

In the early summer of 2016, Float Like A Buffalo won the "2016 Best Of The West Contest" put on by Westword Magazine and Herman's Hideaway.  Besting some of the biggest local acts in Denver, FLAB beat out 80 other bands to win.  The band then went on to open the Coors Light Main Stage of the Westword Music Showcase on Saturday June 25th, 2016.   A big opportunity; opening for such bands as 888, Grizfolk, Black Pistol Fire, Brick + Mortar, New Politics, Cold War Kids, Matt and Kim, and Dillon Francis.

Float Like A Buffalo continued their winning ways by taking the 93.3 KTCL Demo Derby and are ready to be interviewed on KTCL and play a couple songs in the KTCL Garage on the air.

The band has also just finished their first studio EP "Enjoy the Ride" which was released everywhere on September 9th, 2016.  You can find it on iTunes, Spotify, CDBaby, Amazon, Apple Music, and Google Play.
