"The Fear of Fire is Extinguished"

“Believe in yourself and your abilities. Always think about fire safety and always be yourself. Also, break the stereotype that where there is a flame there is fire. Show the world the beauty of fire and that it is not something to fear. Follow your inner flow and let it burn bright through fire performance art.”

Check out the interview with El Fuego de la Vida exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.

Skilly: Where did this all start? Tell us about your journey in the entertainment business.
El Fuego de la Vida: We started at the Laguna Beach drum circles. Every full moon there would be a drum circle and we would spin fire there. We then performed at the Dana Point Festival of Whales for two years and worked with Casa Romantica on a fundraiser for that historical site.

We moved to LA to pursue AGT (America’s Got Talent) and didn’t end up on it, but the experience opened a lot of doors for us. We have done everything from Burning Man to festivals to backyard bbqs to weddings to music videos. And we like to tour.

What would be your biggest piece of advice for the young kids out there trying to do what you do?
Believe in yourself and your abilities. Always think about fire safety and always be yourself. Also, break the stereotype that where there is a flame there is fire. Show the world the beauty of fire and that it is not something to fear. Follow your inner flow and let it burn bright through fire performance art.

What are some of the hardest challenges and tasks in your position?
People being afraid of fire. Finding places to spin legally and without harassment or hostility. So many venues are afraid to host a fire show. But luckily we are insured so venues like that.

We all know the entertainment business is very tough, but what do you find is the best way to promote and advertise your music?
Word of mouth, consistently being professional and reliable. Never stopping the hustle to make it, stay thirsty. Stay connected with your fans.

Tell us about your city. How are the artists and the fans?
We are tri-city. We have roots in LA, Orange County, and San Diego. We are very blessed to be received with open arms wherever we go. We call our fans “Lighters” because they ignite and spark inspiration in us to keep going.

Where do you see yourself a year from today?
Hopefully on tour and/or competing in the Fire Arts World Cup in Europe.

Who and what were your biggest inspirations? Who do you look up to in today’s world?
Big shout out to Missy Elliot, everything about her is inspiring from her productions to her style to her rhymes and her flow. The city is so inspiring. It’s raw and real. Politics play a role in our daily lives and therefore play a role in our art of course. All music is inspiring as is all nature. We inspire each other to push to new levels. And of course our fans or “Lighters.”

How do you feel about the music coming out today? Do you like it?
What you don’t hear as much on the radio. The sub-genres, the underground, and the EDM infused hip hop is dope to spin to.

"The Art of Fire"

El Fuego de la Vida began in Laguna Beach drum circles and soon found themselves working at the Dana Point Festival of Whales, with non-profit historical societies like Casa Romantica, at the OC Market Place, and they even were on the KTLA Morning Show. They’ve performed everything from Burning Man to backyard BBQs. Their performances are based in Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego.
The girl fire troupe currently lives in LA with the aspiration to appear on America’s Got Talent. Their goal is to show the beauty of the element through the art of fire performance. Whether it’s making fire videos or if it’s a life performance, they want the audience to enjoy the show without being afraid of fire. Safety first. - Rude Boy Magazine
