Bio

Who is Harold Rapp III? Take a child of the hip hop generation, introduce him to the jazz genre, throw in the smooth, sexy feel of an R&B/ Neo Soul groove, then let him play the sax with the heartfelt plea of a gospel singer, there you will find Harold Rapp III. His music is truly set apart from other artists.

Harold is a protege of the jazz great, Gerald Albright. He's performed numerous times for the Denver Nuggets as well as for the future NFL Hall of Famer, Rod Smith. Harold is very well-known in Denver and Colorado Springs, but it's time that he branches out of Colorado to become a national act. He's already set the stage to become an international act when he traveled to Japan to perform for a very welcoming audience. He's won numerous awards, including his recent award from COMBO for songwriting.

The title of Harold's explosive breakthrough full length album "SET APART" perfectly capture his captivating and edgy blend of R&B, hip hop, neo soul and gospel vibe with the sizzling horn textures that the versatile alto saxophonist uses to enhance the emotion of his melodic lines.

It also reflects the incredible whirlwind/roller coaster of a life journey he has been on to get to this point in his career, which is flourishing via performances throughout his home base of Denver and key endorsement deals with Jupiter Music (the nation’s largest distributor of public school instruments), Neotech (neck straps), Reunion Blues (cases) and Legere Reeds. Rapp continues to excel by recently receiving his first Global Artist Endorsement from Hercules stands.

Harold’s collaboration with local keyboardist and producer James Roberson to produce Set Apart was a partnership in launching his recording career with his locally released debut album Third Degree. His latest project was the release of his holiday collection Expressions of Christmas by Harold Rapp III & Friends. “The music on 'Set Apart' conveys my belief that in this life, there is nothing that you cannot accomplish with God,” says Rapp. “Sometimes I just hear and feel the music that comes to me and I just start moving to the beats in my head. I digest the music and then put out what I’m hearing and continue to build the energy.”

“My textured approach on the sax is inspired by the way gospel vocals are recorded, and it’s also a popular vibe with contemporary R&B artists like Rihanna and Tank. The best part of creating Set Apart and having the opportunity to get it out there is that I now have a chance to explain my full story through the music.”
