"Highlight – DJ ft. Janell"

Tell us about where you are from and how you got to this position today.
I am originally from Lauderhill, Florida. Shout out to Broward County, 954. However, I have been living in Tampa for the last few years and I love the Bay. I started rapping at age 15, been working hard at it for years just perfecting the craft. I got to this position today just from sheer will and determination, being “hard headed” if you will, but I have so far to go.

What are you currently working on and what can we expect to see?
On 04/04/11 I dropped my debut album M.I.L.F. (Music I Love Forever) and my mixtape Scattered Abroad. Both projects are full of dope hip hop music, a little bit of R&B. But my music is definitely unique and a breath of fresh air to the game. I decided to drop both projects on April 04, 2011 to honor the passing of my good friend and manager Tina Lade of Fresh Concepts management.

Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in the industry?
Although I’ve been rapping for a while I am relatively new to the “industry” so to speak. The biggest challenges I’ve faced really stem from just my personal life. Overcoming the naysayers and obstacles to arrive at this point of being ready. Hard Head Global Domination!!

What was one of the biggest set backs in your career and how did you bounce back?
With some of the music that I’ve made prior to M.I.L.F. And Scattered Abroad, I didn’t always get the reception I felt like I deserved. However, the best way to truly bounce back is to come back bigger and better with better music. The overall quality of my music is on par if not better than a lot of major label artists.

What are some things artists need to be careful of?
Distractions!! Whatever that could be, I would encourage any artist out there to just remain focused and careful not to be sidelined from distractions. It’s very easy to lose focus.

What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
Remain “hard headed”. Basically never give up on your dreams. Persevere even when there are little to no supporters. On my website www.hardheadgloal.com you will see that is my mantra.

What are the best ways to sell your products as an artist?
The most important thing is to really make sure your brand or your product is something that the people or consumers can trust. When I say trust it’s in the fact of them knowing that if they invest in you and your product, they are going to be happy customers. They may not like every track on a 15 song CD, but overall you are giving them something that they can identify and relate to. Overall the approach is to be proactive. I’m giving away my products for free now as a new artist so that I can build that trust and rapport with my listeners. In time with them being familiar with Hard Head Music they will then be able to support my music and that of my artists.

What is one of your favorite ways to promote yourself and your music?
Right now I am taking full advantage of my resources via the internet and soon to be viral marketing. I also use Facebook and my website www.hardheadglobal.com as promotional tools. I am also looking to capitalize on internet and college radio and work my way up. I really appreciate WWS MAG also for giving me this opportunity to promote my music.

Any last comments or statements?
“Can’t help that I’m hardheaded” www.hardheadglobal.com!! Shout out to WWS MAG for the feature!! Shout out to all my fans and supporters of my music as well. Shout out to my artist Janell who’s featured on my debut hit single DJ!! Be on the lookout for her movement as well. Stay tuned to my website as well I got a lot of things lined up. You will definitely hear more about Highlight and Hard Head Music!! Last but not least shout out to my three(3) beautiful kids that keep me going. Ayana, Brionn, and Amare!!
