Janelia

Her multi-cultural style of music stems from being half West Africa’s Nigerian and half American. Singer and songwriter Janelia sings Afro-Pop and Reggae music with soulful vocal techniques which she playfully calls “JaneliaSoul”. She is bilingual and enjoys writing and singing in English, Yoruba and Nigerian Pidgin. Her most recent album “I’m An African” released in 2008 earned her a celebrated spot in the underground and independent music scene in America. However, Janelia’s big break came when she returned to her roots. She boldly established herself as a household name when she relocated to Lagos, Nigeria from 2013 to 2015 to record and promote 2 new singles. These two new singles “Sexy Nana” and “Bakassi” are sweeping the airwaves across Nigeria and the African Diaspora at large. 

Janelia is a socially conscious artist and continues to work on social and economic initiatives through music. Janelia and her band also known as “Janeliasoul” organized a benefit concert in May 2014 for the 200+ Chibok school girls that were kidnapped by Boko Haram in Borno State, Nigeria. Janelia has raised funds for many charitable causes and proudly donates portion of proceeds from her music to charity such as Kelechi's Benefit Concert. 

Janelia's new EP titled "Triumph" is being published in June 2015. She is also working on a new album titled "Afro-Pop Reggaelicious" which is an up coming release in the fall of 2015.
