"Reston resident Jennifer Scott Conquers Hearts Around the World"

Reston resident Jennifer Scott conquers hearts around the world

by Jessica Meyers and Alexandra Rossi

Classical music has been a part of our civilization for hundreds of years. Composers such as Beethoven, Mozart and Bach communicate with us through masterpieces that touch our souls and elicit powerful emotions, such as euphoria, passion and tranquility. Musicians who can communicate through their art and give rise to such intense emotions are truly talented. Inspired by these ingenious composers, Jennifer Scott started to master those skills from a very young age.

Jennifer grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to the D.C. metropolitan area to attend law school. However, music has always been her passion. She began taking piano lessons when she was just four years old. In 2003, while practicing law, she founded Studio Papillon, a music school that brings music lessons to your home. Studio Papillon allowed her the opportunity to keep her passion alive and to give back by teaching others how to play beautiful music.

A Reston resident, Jennifer has veered away from practicing law to pursue her musical endeavors full time. Earlier this year, she founded the JS Quartet. Since then, she has performed for public and private events around the D.C. metropolitan area. Next month, she will perform at the French Embassy, which will be hosting a public event.

Jennifer plans to release her first album with the JS Quartet, Le temps de I’amour, in 2015.

The album is a collection of vintage love songs from around the world. In many songs, Jennifer combines her musical talents with her fluency in French to produce breathtaking pieces.

“I would like to start performing internationally, places like Canada, Paris, Montreal, Québec and Switzerland. I’m targeting those first because I’m secure enough in my French to feel comfortable doing that,” she says.

Jennifer adds, “ I plan to branch out from there into the Brazilian community, because in this album, we’ve added elements of the tango and Latin jazz. I’ve actually been learning Brazilian Portuguese for this album, because I’ll be singing in Portuguese, as well as in French.”

"FACC DC Spotlight on Jennifer Scott's Debut Album Le temps de l'amour"

Jennifer Scott's debut album, Le temps de l'amour, reflects a musical archeology that began in years of classical piano, e xpanded into French and Spanish vocals, and culminated in a kaleidoscope of French and Latin music that evokes the unpretentious glamour of the 60's.

The soft, haunting melodies of Françoise Hardy and Astrud Gilberto receive new life in an album that shifts effortlessly from Paris to bossa nova, neo-tango and Cuban classics. Yet the cosmopolitan feel of the tracks sound just as wonderful in the park, at the beach or at home with friends. - French American Chamber of Commerce DC

"Review of Jennifer Scott's Le temps del'amour"

Jennifer Scott is classy. Her music is just as good at the beach as it is at a quiet dinner party with friends. French jazz played by accomplished musicians is rarely a bad thing. I get excited when someone of Jennifer’s caliber submits her music to be reviewed on our site. Jennifer is just another example of the vast variety of indie music available on the market today.
As many of you know I only speak two languages, english and music. Although I don’t personally speak the language present in Jennifer’s songs I do however speak the language of music very well. Jennifer’s music and band are not only classy but also accomplished and well rehearsed. Self defined as “French Latin Fusion” it’s worth the listen just to explore the genre!

In her earlier years Jennifer studied piano with acclaimed concert pianists Jeffrey Chappell and Brian Ganz and it shows. Accomplishing this level of musicianship hardly ever comes easy and without hard work. A licensed attorney and an owner of a music school based in Washington, DC, Jennifer is elated to present her new project, Le temps de l’amour and so is Indie Music Plus! If you enjoy vocal jazz with few distractions then you should pick up this album set for release in May 2016.

When researching for the review I viewed some of Jennifer’s videos. She seemed a bit rigid live but also very elegant. I mean it’s not super easy to play piano and sing in french. The rigidness I saw could have simply been a well trained musician using her body to play her instrument while supporting her voice - Indie Music Plus

Her album begins with an effervescent samba La vie en rose ‘16, enthusiastically received by listeners in Latin America:  “This is the first time  ‘La vie en rose’ made me feel happy!”   Flowing to a lounge-like feel, the album exudes the silky sound palette of Gotan Project mixed with Diana Krall: “Excellent! 100% from the soul!”
