JERRY DIAZ & HANNA"S REEF

"Texas Beach Music"

As a native of the Texas Gulf Coast, Jerry Diaz has lived the songs he writes and sings. Drawing on influences such as The Beach Boys, Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown, and Jimmy Buffett he takes listeners on a musical journey to places like New Orleans, Pensacola, Key West, and the Texas beach bars he knows well. Personal experiences from a life spent in places like Crystal Beach and Galveston Island along with tales handed down from sailors, fishermen and beach lovers all combine to give Diaz a firsthand outlook on a place others claim to know well.

Diaz started his musical journey in 1993 as a founding member of Key West the Band. Key West spent nearly a decade touring the Gulf Coast, building a strong fan base from Corpus Christi to the Florida Keys. Those early days along Interstate 10 provided a creative spark that continues to this day. What started as a tropical cover band quickly morphed into an outlet for his own songwriting.

As a band, Jerry Diaz & Hanna's Reef draws on a diverse musical background to produce an original style they call "Texas Beach Music." A veteran rhythm section provides a rock-n-roll beat that accompanies the tropical sounds of steel drums and congas. Diaz rounds out each song with his own personal brand of storytelling that has been winning over fans for nearly 24 years.

Named after a popular fishing spot in Galveston Bay, Jerry Diaz & Hanna's Reef was formed by Diaz in the summer of 2002. The band routinely plays more than 100 shows a year. Diaz is joined onstage by Mark Mireles on steel drums, Heli Martinez on lead guitar, percussionist Bud Byram, Trey Newmiller on drums, and Nick Montou on bass guitar.

In November, 2016, a highly anticipated video documentary entitled "Parrot Heads" will be released to the public, which along with a few other artists, features Diaz and his music, and their role in the spread of the genre known as "Trop-Rock" music  throughout the country. That 90 minute documentary is scheduled to be aired during the holidays on both CMT and GAC networks. In addition, the accompanying soundtrack will be shipped to both Wal-Mart and Target stores for the holidays.

Jerry Diaz & Hanna’s Reef is currently touring in support of their fourth album, "On a Beach in Mexico". Plans are underway for a 5th CD to be released in mid 2017. The band currently has shows scheduled for Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, and the Caribbean, to go along with numerous Texas shows. Their previous albums include On a Beach in Mexico (2012) Home on the Gulf Coast (2009)  Deja View (2004) and Reef Madness (2002), which are all available on Itunes, CD Baby, Amazon and at every live show.

Since 2015, Jerry Diaz & Hanna's Reef has been sponsored regionally by Landshark Lager Beer, with announcement posters, bar merchandise, and even Landshark Lager (and Hanna's Reef) neon signs. The association has created a buzz that has helped fuel a significant increase in sales for the Landshark Lager brand in coastal Texas communities, as well as much welcome publicity for the band.
