"Alton up-and-comer positively promotes community"

ALTON — Hailing from “A-L-T-O-N” as his song “Young King” proclaims, Jordan Atkins, also known as JIZXLE (pronounced Jizzle) was the star of a positive hip hop video, “Humble Beginnings,” shot on the streets of Alton Sunday afternoon.

“It is important that we spread a positive message to the entire community,” said Cassandra Campbell, organizer of the event and mother to one of the entrepreneurs selling T-shirts. “We want to bring people together. That is what this event is all about.”

As Ambient Perspective, a professional video company out of St. Louis, shot the video, between 100 and 150 people gathered to be a part of the video, eat the free hot dogs and enjoy the free water that was available as part of a community block party. The New Community Relations Committee organized the party to celebrate Jizxle’s musical performance. People were from not only Alton but, from all of Madison County, and parts of St. Clair and St. Louis counties.

Encouraged by his father, Atkins began music at age 9. He graduated a year early from Alton High School in 2012 and has traveled all over the country as an opener for many famous rap groups. His message is “Grind, work and succeed” — and that he is doing.

With two of his friends, A’basa Brown Jr. and Bradley Cox-Campbell, Atkins has opened an online clothing line, also named “Humble Beginnings.” Currently they are selling T-shirts but hope to expand the line. On his website, people who attended were asked to wear black. Several also wore the black Jizxle T-shirts.

Filming Sunday was the third video Atkins has produced. His other videos are: “Way Up Push-Pray Until Something Happens” and “No Pressure.” They are hoping that “Humble Beginnings” will be complete in two weeks and can be seen at Facebook\Jizxle or at www.iamjizxle.com. "JIZXLE – “ALL GOOD”"

Here’s something refreshing: a young rapper who’s not a weirdo. Jizxle (pronounced Jizzle) is an up and coming Midwest rapper. Hailing from Illinois, the fresh faced rapper has raw talent, but not raw in a bad way. His music is infectious and doesn’t seem overly braggadocious.
