'LCV Project' Creates Unexpected Acoustic Guitar Sounds

By Christine Sampson, csampson@vagazette.com

WILLIAMSBURG

These days, Louis C. Vangieri channels much of his energy into making music. The 60-year-old Williamsburg resident has been playing music since his youth, toured with a band along the east coast for several years after college, and has played in duos, trios, quartets and quintets. Vangieri, whose goes by the name The LCV Project, now plays a solo act that combines his own rhythm acoustic guitar recordings with live acoustic guitar performances for some unique and unexpected sounds that he compares to two hands that play the two ends of a piano.

He wasn't always a full-time musician. Vangieri has degrees in sociology and anthropology, and spent 30 years as a college counselor. But he was diagnosed with cancer in 1999. He fought the battle and won, and several years later he and his wife Lauren decided to retire in Williamsburg, where they had been frequent visitors.

"I still had things I wanted to do," he said.

"I'm regenerated because I did the counseling thing for 30 years and so I'm seeing music in a fresh light," Vangieri said.

His influences include James Taylor, Cat Stevens, the Beatles and more, and his sets include both covers of popular songs and his own original music.

Vangieri described his music as "calm, tranquil, pretty."

"Every night it will sound a little different," he said.
