McG Makes Music

McG Makes Music is a multi-faceted music project led by Ethan McGowen. The project’s music could be described as “genre-less,” but at the same time “genre-abundant.” Created to test the boundaries of music styles, the project has led Ethan on a cosmic journey of soul-intertwined soundscapes and epic sonic maelstroms. A native of Portland, Oregon, Ethan works tirelessly to incorporate the sounds and artists of his local scene with his own influences to create something entirely new yet enticingly familiar. Jamie Brito of Internet Beef fame calls McG Makes Music “a supernatural walk through what’s capable with sound.”

Currently, Ethan is offering his talents and creative capabilities through McG Makes Music as a service for those in need of musical accompaniment to their event or media, both as a live act and a recording artist. Collaborating with members of the Portland indie scene, Ethan’s band consists of a rotating line of musicians who help to bring his solo-recordings to fruition in a live setting. Ethan consistently pushes content to the McG Makes Music social media pages, which act as a portfolio of his work.

McG Makes Music is part of a larger plan and desire for Ethan to break down genre barriers in the Portland scene and begin a homogenized effort to make the city into a musical landmark. Through his experiences, he believes Portland could reach as great heights as music capitols like Nashville, Los Angeles, and New York. He hopes McG Makes Music can be part of the foundational glue to bring together the musicians and artists that the city has to offer.

Ethan, fresh from graduating from Portland State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sonic Arts and Music Production, is ready to sink his teeth in to whatever his commission service may send his way. The years of schooling, practicing, and performing his craft has left him hungry for action, and willing and excited to tackle whatever challenges advertisers, filmmakers, and event organizers throw at him. McG Makes Music will conquer the geography of sound.
