"5 Stellar Songwriters You Should Know"

“St. Francis”

The husband-wife duo behind Phoenix’s soulful staple, Aunt B, wrote and recorded a stripped-down six-track EP in a cabin in Payson. “St. Francis” is the title track from that release. The rambunctious Baskervilles turned inward in the face of familial loss and dug deep. The emotionally charged St. Francis goes to show what two songwriters can accomplish when they channel the hurt of this world into their creative work. Just because Aunt B decided to show off their stripped-down songwriting chops while dealing with a difficult emotional time, don’t start thinking they’ve turned the tide and given up their blues bar ways. The band already has a brand new (and sassy) single that shows their still up to their wily ways. Give “Glow” a listen after you spend some somber moments with “St. Francis” if you need a pick me up. - Yab Yum Music and Arts

Bio

Megan and Shane are a wife and Husband AltCountry, Heartland Rock, Americana, Country songwriting-performing duo from AZ. "We'll punch you in the gut then hug you!"

They met in 2008 and were married at the Stax Museum of Soul in Memphis October 2013. The night before they were married, they recorded at the legendary Sun Studios and there began the journey of Megan & Shane. They have been in several bands together ranging from soul, funk, ska to country.

After many years, they finally discovered their voice and their song and are very excited to share their hearts and souls with you.

Megan grew up listening to country and punk bands in Chicago.  She hopped on a bus and moved to Charleston, SC and started honing in her voice with local bluegrass and country pickers and local legends.  She would often take trips to Nashville and Memphis to record and soak in the southern flavor to give her experiences to write about.

Shane has been touring in bands opening for bands like Social Distortion, Goldfinger, Chevelle, Long Beach Dub Allstars, Slightly Stoopid, Fishbone, Warped Tours and more since he was 18...he grew up in small town WI teaching himself how to play guitar in between skateboarding and Kid-n-Play dance routines with his friends.  Shane moved out to LA to pursue his dreams in 2001.  There he had a ton of amazing experiences like playing with hair band icons Poison on a VH1 show.

They both met teaching at the School of Rock music school in MN and they quickly started a few bands together and have had some great experiences like opening for George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Nick Waterhouse, Fishbone, Mustard Plug and several AZ festivals.

In March of 2020, their friend Noah Levy posted at the beginning of the shutdown that he was doing drum tracks for people since all his tours were canceled.  So Megan and Shane quick wrote a couple of songs to help him out and to get some great drums on a record.  Those 2 songs turned into 10.  That opened up a floodgate of inspiration and they have been writing songs all year.  They have a Holiday EP coming out Nov 20th, their full length 'North of Highway 8' coming out Dec 20th and they are heading to the studio to record with producer Bob Hoag to have a new release early 2021!
