Bio

Michael “BIG MIKE” Hart Jr. is an American guitarist, producer and vocal arranger. Born and raised in Sacramento California, his musical development began at a very early edge. He grew up in a spiritually grounded home and spent much of his time listening to classic soul and worship music at home. Through his regular attendance of church services, choir rehearsals and revivals, he was able to absorb even more music and it was at that point that his musical seed was planted. It was also through this exposure that he identified his passion and subsequent love for guitar. One listen, and you can still hear these soulful influences in his emotive playing. To this day Big Mike still refers to his deep church roots as “the ‘Holy Ghost’, with a drive like no other!”

Big Mike knew early on what his chosen path would be and he has been harvesting his gift for the last 20 years in preparation for this very moment. He is currently ramping for several slated dates in support of the recent release of his debut album “Young Man…Old Soul”. As you listen to his work, you will soon see his mastery of bridging the old, traditional changes, with a new level of energy that is dominant in many of today’s sounds. His stylistic playing embodies a classic retro sound, while also demonstrating emotion and technicality far beyond that of many of his contemporaries. He has worked tirelessly to find his own voice, and he credits some of the industries most heralded players for helping him along the way; Rob ”Fonksta” Bacon, Bobby “Bobby G” Gonzales, John “Jubu” Smith and Derek “D.O.A” Allen, just to name a few. Big Mike is also quick to credit the man who helped jumpstart his journey from day one - his uncle Jimi “Bottom Hammock” Morris.

Through hard work, perseverance and an undeniable work ethic, Big Mike has been afforded the opportunity to both produce and write for a who’s who of network shows, to include; HBO, BET, NBA, MTV, Bad Girls Club, Vh1, The T.O Show and Access Hollywood . His resume also boasts touring duties with some of the biggest names in music, to include DJ Quik, Slimm, Dogg Pound, Ricky Bell, Ginuwine, Michael Lington, Jessy J, Dave Hollister, Lenny Williams, Wayman Tisdale and Karyn White.

In an era of over processed, cookie-cutter recordings, Big Mike’s impassioned approach of making music rolls in like a breath of fresh air and truly solidifies him as an up and coming force in the Smooth Jazz arena. His melodic lines, rock solid grooves, and soulful writing style elevate his self titled “Young Man…Old Soul” to more than just a not just an album name, but a way of life.
