"PREMIERE: Modern Chemistry Concoct Stunning New Single, Announce New Album"

The New Jersey rockers in Modern Chemistry have been concocting their debut album for quite some time now. After self-releasing three EPs, including 2016’s Dreaming Adjacent produced by Taking Back Sunday’s Adam Lazzara, the band–consisting of Joe Zorzi (vocals, guitar), Brendan Hourican (guitar) and Jesse Slachman (drums)–are finally ready to bring an LP into the world and are doing so with a bang!

Everything In Gold, due out July 7, is a fine collection of songs that embodies the best elements of Modern Chemistry’s sound. Produced by Paul Leavitt (Have Mercy, The Dangerous Summer), the album explores every corner of the band’s talent and truly shows what they’re capable of doing.

“We spent a lot of time crafting these songs,” Zorzi says. “We always worked hard during the writing process, but with the end goal of a full-length album in mind, it felt like we needed something that was cohesive. We wanted to explore all the different aspects of our sound but make sure it all felt like a step in a new direction. This record’s all about taking a step back to look at all of your past mistakes, all of your regrets, and all of your accomplishments. Realizing that no matter what you’re dealing with, there’s a way to become better from it. We feel extremely lucky to be doing what we’re doing. To play songs we care about to audiences all around the country is about as cool as it gets. We just can’t wait to get back out there and play these new songs to both new and familiar faces.”

Today, we are pleased to bring you the exclusive premiere of the band’s new single “Everything In Gold” along with its accompanying music video. The title track is a slow-building tune that opens the debut album perfectly. The video, directed by Anthony Yebra, acts as a semi-trailer for the album.

When asked about the video, Zorzi said:

“We wanted the video to feel like a fever dream. We wanted to focus mainly on visuals that provoked a certain feeling rather than a specific story. The feeling of starting over and letting go of whatever holds you back. It’s loosely based on interesting moments from our own lives that helped shape who we are today.”

Pre-orders for the album are available here. Check out the tracklisting and album art below!

"Interview with Modern Chemistry: An Inside Look at Their New Single"

Modern Chemistry, a forceful Jersey-based alt-rock band, just released their new single "Please, Don't Let Me Disappear". They've toured with Taking Back Sunday, The Dangerous Summer, Every Time I Die and more and played many festivals including South by Southwest, Riot Fest, and Gentlemen of the Road.

In light of the new release, we had the chance to ask Joe Zorzi (vocalist and guitarist) some questions.

"Please, Don't Let Me Disappear" is your latest single. Could you talk about what the writing and recording process was like? Why is this single so special for you?

Writing this was pretty exciting. All Brendan had was this chord progression, but he had the gigantic sound of it in his head. We sat in my room at my computer and just layered more and more sounds until it grew into this entire world of sound. We had some weird things in it that we ended up keeping even after bringing it to the studio. Like, there’s a track of me rattling a belt loop and whispering and it sounded really cool so we just threw it on top of everything.

How do you connect this song to David Lynch? Are you all big fans of film?

We are! We love his style. I don’t think there’s any real direct correlation there. But, the song is very cinematic. We’re huge fans of the Cure and the album Disintegration and this song was our chance to channel that. Whenever I put that album on in my car, I feel like I’m in a movie.

We loved the art by Benjamin Lieber for the single, how did you work on getting your idea across to him?

Ben is an amazingly creative person. He came to the video shoot that we were doing for the song (coming soon). We had this hotel set up that was pretty wild. There was a lot of cool lighting. And he just took that vibe and ran with it, and the next thing we knew we had some of our coolest promo photos yet. You will be seeing a lot more collaboration between us soon.

You are all from Jersey, what was it like trying to “make it” in the music industry locally?

Well, locally it’s important to just attend and play shows and make connections with other musicians. We’ve been doing this for a bit so we’re lucky enough to have a lot of talented friends in the area. It’s always a blast putting together shows, especially in a town like Asbury Park.

The band seems a lot more confident and mature in its sound, how did you achieve this?

Well, we’ve been working together creatively for a long time now. Our tastes have evolved and we have a much better grasp on creating what we like. Stylistically, we’re always trying out new things.

After all the build-up from 2019, we are expecting great things from this Jersey-born band and when asked about future plans Joe said: “Our second record should be out this year. We’ll be hitting the road again. Exciting for this chapter to come to life, it’s going to be something new and something special”

Of course, we can´t wait to see what they have in store for us. Have you already listened to their new single? - Unspoken Press

Bio

Modern Chemistry is an indie, alternative band from New Jersey.

The band's has a modern big sound that meshes current artists like Bon Iver and the 1975 with the best of the 80s (The Cure, Peter Gabriel, Tears for Fears). A lot of the band's current work is self recorded right from home. Being able to engineer and produce on their own allows for more creative control and quicker turnaround times.

Modern Chemistry has toured North America multiple times, including tours with Taking Back Sunday, Every Time I Die, and Frank Iero, festivals like Gentlemen of the Road, SXSW, and Riot Fest, and more shows with The Maine, Wavves, Echosmith, Motion City Soundtrack and more.
