"New Song Alert: Modern Love"

Boston based indie rock band Post Modern Authors have released a new track called Modern Love from their self-titled EP release, which was crowdfunded by the band.

The origin of the Post Modern Authors can be pinpointed to one night in the cold months of 2012 where the eventual members gathered to play music for the first time. Everyone picked up a different instrument and an hour later, almost by accident, they had written their first song. It immediately became clear that the musical chemistry that they shared was much more than a random gathering. - Indie Minded

"Philosphers' Tone: Post Modern Authors Write Their Own Future"

When talking with Post Modern Authors, there’s really just one place to start: read anything good lately?

Yes, says Andrew Sullivan, who provides vocals/banjo/guitar for the Somerville-based folk rock quintet, though he can’t quite explain what the book, The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, means. Despite that, there is significance to the band’s name.

“We like the idea of us writing our own script, of being authors,” says Sullivan. “It’s our way of looking to the future and writing how we see it coming. We are basically philosophers, is how we look at it.”

The band’s story begins when Sullivan, originally from Worcester, quickly bonded with bandmates Dominic Dellaquila, Michelle Amirault and Meghan and Emily Seeberg when they met two summers ago. The same night, they had their first song — a “too catchy, too poppy” cut that Sullivan now describes an embarrassing. But a first song nonetheless.

“We brought all our own likes and tastes to the table,” says Sullivan, who lives with Dellaquila and Seeberg (the others are in Winchester). “Now we are at the point where we mixed and matched and we are really happy right now how with how we collectively have come together to form this one sound.”

Sullivan likens the sound to an edgier version of The Decemberists, but it’s a bit broader than that. “Wash Away” is a dusty highway rambler, while “Silent Pressure” has Meghan Seeberg singing over a speakeasy stomp rhythm.

After a memorable first show in a friend’s attic space (they bought 20 bottles of champagne for guests to guzzle), the band started steadily gigging around town for the past year. Though one show at the Armory was recorded and released on Bandcamp, Sullivan and crew will get their first opportunity to record in-studio when they begin work on their Kickstarter-funded first EP later this fall.

Of the EP, Sullivan says: “It’s a combination of songs we feel are our most powerful and most fine-tuned and that we have collectively worked on together. Lyrically we want to be relevant, to talk about stuff that resonates with people. We want to portray how our live shows are, to bring our songs to that level of intensity. We’re excited about having something that we’ve put a lot of work into and that we can really show people.” - Dig Boston

"TVD Premeire: Post Modern Authors "Modern Love""

We have the pleasure of premiering Post Modern Authors’ single “Modern Love” from their crowd funded, self-titled EP. The wintery track is a decidedly retro affair that reflects the New England landscape with its damp rhythm section and chilling vocals. The groovy guitar chunks along to the band’s soft but definitive lyrics, making for a unique and brilliant ambience. - The Vinyl District

"Boston Spotlight: Post Modern Authors"

The buzzworthy five-piece love Beantown. As they promote their latest single "Modern Love" and their upcoming shows, they also show support to a local scene that is going through a musical shift.
Boston

The Boston, Massachusetts music scene may have been going through some changes and musical shifts over the past few years, but Post Modern Authors have been standing out with their eclectic, folk-laced indie rock hybrid.

These authors (comprised of vocalist and guitarist Andrew Sullivan, vocalist and guitarist Meghan Seeberg, guitarist Dominic Dellaquila, bassist Michelle Amirault, and drummer Emily Seeberg) are in the midst of supporting their recently-released Kickstarter-funded self-titled debut EP, Post Modern Authors, are gaining steam with their critically-acclaimed single "Modern Love," and continue to perform in the city's most popular music halls.

Simply put, Post Modern Authors are a band to watch. Arena recently talked to the quintet about Boston's music culture, their favorite artists in the city, and their style.

Arena: How long have you been creating music and playing live in Boston?

Post Modern Authors:We’ve been playing around the Boston music scene for the last two years.

Arena: How would you say the scene has evolved in your time here?

Post Modern Authors:In the last few years, what we’ve seen is a bit of a shift in the sound. I think the scene has a history of grunge [and] alternative rock that has been around for quite a bit. I think what’s pretty exciting is that there is a kind of new developing sound from a new crop of bands, which is more unique and creates more variety. There are a new group of bands that are looking to start a new culture, and change things up a bit, and it’s an intriguing shift. It’s fun to be a part of.

Arena: So what bands are you listening to and have been following in the scene?

Post Modern Authors:Bands we are really into right now, and have had the pleasure of playing with, include The Roadside Dolls that are loaded with some talent, Atlas Lab has such a strong presence about them and are awesome, and PowerSlut, who puts on a fun show and has a great record.

Arena: Can you provide a quote regarding your love for playing in and being part of the Boston scene?

Post Modern Authors:Playing in Boston is amazing. It’s full of opportunities for bands to grow, and share their music in a ton of different and awesome venues. It’s a supportive culture that not only creates amazing talents, but helps form connections that we can really value. People are willing to flock to shows, and you just don’t see that everywhere else.

Arena: Last question: what influences your music overall?

Post Modern Authors:Our influences comes from our bandmates, first and foremost. We are constantly looking to add to songs, or just enjoy the process of writing new material. We like the challenge of pushing ourselves to see what we can create, and the ebb and flows of the adventure. - Arena
