"Project 1268 debut a feel good & vibrant single, "Happiness""

On their first officially released single titled “Happiness”, you can instantly sense the passion and love coming through from new duo, Project 1268. Do yourselves a huge favor and read on for our positive review of the track, as well as a background on the band.

Made up of old friends Craig and Haley, the two have come together to create a new band called Project 1268. Blending up a wide array of genres, but ultimately classified as upbeat indie rock, their debut single “Happiness” has successfully given us that emotion after multiple listens through. If you know what’s good for you, and you appreciate music that makes you feel good, we highly recommend you give it a spin.

With Haley on lead vocals, we can only assume that Craig took care of the instrumentation. Together though they’ve come forward with an eclectic mix of sound that is vibrant and perfectly primed to get dancing to. While we labeled it as indie rock, there’s still so much else going on sonically. We sensed a little bit of punk and even hints of third wave ska due to the completely necessary addition of horns as well. Certainly the song is well rounded and it’s set a lovely base for what we can hopefully expect in the future.

What you can expect before you dive in is a whole lot of positivity, but also a quick reminder to pay attention to the lyricism as well. For us, it was easy to get lost in the fun and carefree attitude that the song evokes, however the lyrics aren’t to be passed over either. They’re thought provoking and delivered flawlessly from Haley; you can truly feel that she’s enjoying herself while giving a memorable performance.

At just a little under three minutes in total length, this is 100% a song we know we’ll be coming back to. As the first song from a band that’s new on the scene, they’ve also legitimately got us patiently waiting for whatever they cook up nex. As long as it’s in the same vein as “Happiness”, there’s a pretty solid chance we’re going to love it just as much!

With that being said, once again we recommend you check it out immediately. You can also stay up to date with Project 1268 by following them on their social media below. Enjoy! - We Write About Music

"Behind the Curtains with Project 1268: Exclusive Backstage Pass Insights"

Project 1268, formed from a heartfelt reunion after years apart, exemplifies the fusion of deep friendship and creative synergy. Their music, a unique blend of soul, folksy songwriting, and 90s beats, is heavily influenced by the rich sounds of the 60s to 80s. Renowned for their humour-infused approach, they gained acclaim with their holiday hit "Ugly Sweater," a playful nod to festive traditions. The band has made notable appearances on local TV and is anticipating a feature in Billboard magazine. With plans for performances and EP releases in 2024, Project 1268 continues to enchant audiences with their retro-infused melodies and relatable lyrics.

INTERVIEW

Formation of Project 1268: How did your reunion after many years lead to the formation of Project 1268, and how has your friendship influenced your music?

Our close bond has encouraged an amazing amount of creativity. Between catching up on the years spent apart, sharing current adventures, and having goals for our future, it is an almost endless source of inspiration.

Inspiration Behind 'Ugly Sweater': What inspired the concept of "Ugly Sweater," and how does it reflect your approach to holiday music?

We like to take partially comedic looks at a lot of our music, and the ugly sweater phenomenon was perfect

Musical Influences: How do your diverse musical influences from the 60s to 80s shape the sound of Project 1268? We tend to have a strange combo of soul, folksy songwriting, and frequently a 90's style beat

Notable Performances and Features: Can you share your experiences with notable gigs, television features, and your upcoming interview in Billboard magazine?

We have had a lot of fun on local TV and applying for music festivals in 2024. The Billboard magazine exposure is still in the works...

Public Relations Strategy: With the hiring of a West Coast PR firm, what are your promotional plans for 2024, and how do you aim to expand your reach?

We are very excited about some possible performances in California, plus some opportunities to write AND work on a series of EPs we plan on releasing.

Recording Process of 'Ugly Sweater': Can you describe the recording process for "Ugly Sweater" and your collaboration with Chris Collins, Cherise Carver, and other musicians?

We have done recording sessions in an old-school style of LIVE PERFORMANCE, which you can catch on our YouTube channel, but Ugly Sweater used the best of modern technology - we caught our friend Aaron, who is a Nashville session player to do our bass parts, a guitarist friend from a local music conservatory, and the two of us did keys, sax, vocals, then we sent it to Chris and Cherise at Crimson Road studios who did the drum parts, mixed, mastered, etc. It's amazing what collaborations are possible.

Ethos and Style of 'Ugly Sweater': How does "Ugly Sweater" incorporate office politics and family-time themes with a humorous undertone?

You said it...Have to make it through the holiday season with all the rush and pressure, so might as well do it with style...we are the best-looking ugly sweater wearing people you will ever see.

Creative Process for Holiday Music: What is your creative process when writing and arranging holiday music, and how do you keep it fresh and engaging?

Any music needs to be written from a perspective of personal experience. Turns out most personal experiences are shared by most people, so we pick a topic and write OUR take on it, and has really seemed to resonate with people.

Fan Engagement with Ugly Sweaters: How do you plan to engage with your fans through social media with your custom-made ugly sweaters?

Hahaha, noooo.... we have some great photos of us on youtube and facebook, but we are not engaging in the fashion industry. Not yet, anyway.

Future Musical Direction: Following "Ugly Sweater," what direction do you see Project 1268 taking in terms of musical style and themes?
We have an astonishing number of songs we are looking to record and perform in 2024. We have a series of EPs with different topics planned. Our style is really starting to gel a little more as we stick with that retro soul sound. - TJPL News

"Track Review: Records Back // Project 1268"

Since 2021 with their debut single ‘Happiness’, US-based Project 1288 has been sharing their eclectic music with the masses. Throughout 2022, the pair entertained listeners with critically acclaimed singles and a debut album – now they’re back with an exhilarating new single ‘Records Back’. Blending elements of soul, pop, jazz and even some hip-hop, Haley Webster and Craig Brown create a sound that is completely their own. Come with us as we delve into their recent single, ‘Records Back’.

The first release in 2023, Project 1268 blasts into 2023 with a slice of soulful old-school jazz tinged with sprinklings of 90s hip-hop and RnB. Unlike the previous single, ‘Do Ya Wanna’, ‘Records Back’ moves toward a more sensual cheekiness from an upbeat folk-pop sound. Recorded with producer Chris Collins at Crimson Road Studio, ‘Records Back’ is a jazzy tune easily played in smoky jazz clubs like the one Sade performs at in the music video for ‘Smooth Operator’. Groovy and slick, Haley Webster’s powerful alto melds harmonically with Craig Brown’s sexy saxophone showing off an “I don’t care what you think because I’m awesome” attitude.

While the melody can ensnare anyone’s senses, it is the bold lyricism that adds an edginess to the soulful single. In an interview with Hip Hop Paranoia, the pair explain that ‘Records Back’ is inspired by “life events and revelations that force us to stand up for ourselves and take back what has been stolen from us. Not just physical belongings, it’s about getting back time, love and dignity.”

Complex, intriguing and filled with a toe-tapping sensuality, Project 1268 intoxicate us with their single ‘Records Back’. The second single from their upcoming album, I cannot wait to hear what else they have up their sleeves.

Their music reminds you of Joni Mitchell, Carole King, or James Taylor.

Project 1268 is back with their new single, “Dwelling.” It is a delightful blend of acoustic guitar, drums, finger-snapping sounds, and enchanting female vocals. The addition of keys and saxophone adds an extra layer of delight and enhances the melody. The bassline picks up during the climax, creating a powerful and cohesive arrangement. It made me feel like I was rediscovering an old favorite while embarking on a new adventure in the meantime.

The lyrics seem like you are having a heart-to-heart conversation with a trusted friend who knows exactly what you wish to hear when you are feeling low. It reminds us to stay hopeful and look at the bright side. They encourage us to cherish our memories while letting go of past decisions made when we were younger. It’s like having a mentor guiding us with comforting words: “Hold on to the places in your memory, let go of the choices made by the younger you, what else could you do.”

With “Dwelling,” Project 1268 has created a work of art that serves as a constant reminder to embrace optimism. - Sinusoidal Music
