On August 12th BET hosted their “Blaze The Stage” auditions in New York City. An Ohio native Raine Wilder, packed up his DJ, Camera Man, and Management Team and Headed to the East Coast to show them what he brings to the world of Hip Hop. Here is the Footage he sent us.

According to Ryan Rolsten, the best kept secret is in Toledo is “ME!” Joking aside, he does promise to give his audience a crazy show.

Ryan, better known as Raine Wilder, isn’t Toledo’s secret to keep any more, though. This Friday, August 12th, Raine Wilder is heading to New York City to audition for BET’s Blaze The Stage and 106 & Park’s W.O.W. For those of you who don’t know Raine Wilder, he is a local hip hop artist here in Toledo. You might have caught his performance at the 2011 Toledo Music Expo. His style of music, as he says, is “Hip Hop with rock ‘n’ roll energy.” Raine continued, “I can’t compare it to anything else. I have my own sound, I think.”

If you’re curious as to what Raine sounds like, there isn’t lack of music available. In one year, he has released two albums worldwide on iTunes, Rhapsody, and Amazon, to name a few--by himself.

So, where did Raine Wilder come from? After getting a bass guitar from his father for his 15th birthday, Ryan (now known as Raine), started to take music seriously. He said, “My friend Neal could play the guitar already and our friend Kevin played the drums, so we wanted to start a punk rock band. We called it Generation Overdose.” Members of the band and the band name changed over the years before Raine took a two to three year break from music completely. After that, though, Raine said that he “started taking Hip Hop seriously.... I always rapped throughout the years, though, for fun.”

In fact, Raine writes his own lyrics. “Writing lyrics and poems is the only thing I’ve ever really been good at,” Raine said, and added jokingly, “And it’s the only thing that can make me focus and keep my attention for more than one minute.” It seems he genuinely enjoys performing, too. “The feeling you get when you complete a song and hear on a speaker what you’ve had in your head is indescribable,” said Raine when asked what inspires him to do what he does.

Raine admits that his lyrics are different now than from when he started. “I guess, over time, they changed,” he said. “My punk songs used to be about sneaking out of the house, rebelling, cigarettes, and parties, and stuff like that. Then they were about heartbreak and regret and real stuff I went through with girls. I’m over all those topics....” Now, “most of my topics are about the long road I’ve taken to get where I am at and to where I am going. About the struggle and the sacrifice us artists make to do music. It isn’t an easy or pretty road. And it damn sure isn’t free. I understand where the term ‘starving artist’ came from now,” he said.

For his name, Ryan went with the name, “Raine Wilder.” As for why, Raine said, “If I had a son, I always liked the name Raine. I always thought it was unique and sounded cool. So that was easy. Then, I just thought of a last name that went well with it. But, to take it deeper, to me Raine (or rain) gives everything life and helps it grow, and, usually if something is wild, it is uncontrollable and/or taking it to a level that shocks people. That’s what I want to do with my music. To help people not only grow through music but do it in a way that stands out from the rest.”

So, what Raine’s ultimate direction? Does he want fame and fortune? “I want to take it to the top,” said Raine. “And yes, all of the above.” Raine jokes, “I’ll take the paparazzi too.”
