"Raised on TV trade technology for truth in "Soul on Fire""

Los Angeles alt-rock band Raised on TV explode with energy in their new single "Soul on Fire". With powerful jangly guitars and throbbing drums, the highly contagious roaring rock track details finding yourself in the digital age. It's about disconnecting from technology and discovering a connection to your authentic self.

Raised on TV consists of two brothers and their high school friend, Keaton Rogers (guitar, vocals), Kacey Greenwood (drums) and Ryan Weiss (bass). Fusing together a dynamic alt sound, they draw influences from 60s and 90s rock bands, while constructing a style all their own.

"Soul on Fire" is off their sophomore album Season 2, with its prequel Season 1 narrating the relatable journey towards adulthood, and with this latest work representing a different stage of life. "It's beyond adolescence and teen angst. There's still some angst, but maybe that angst is more adult? Dealing with financial struggles, relationship struggles, losing friends, etc." the band reveals.

Raised on TV have accomplished a lot on their path to success. They've played numerous festivals and sold-out audiences at tours throughout the country. They have also opened for renowned artists such as Jefferson Starship and Marcy Playground. The band is now heading on the road for "The Off the Couch Summer Tour of 2019" performing shows all across America and Canada.

"Raised On TV Prepares to Unleash Season Two"

Los Angeles alt-rockers Raised On TV play the Maui Sugar Mill this week, the final date on a 20+ gig tour that has seen them travel around the country. We chatted with guitarist/vocalist Keaton Rogers about it all…

L.A. WEEKLY: When and how did the band form?

KEATON ROGERS: We formed back in the summer of 2015. The drummer [Kacey Greenwood] is my brother, so we always wanted to have a band together, always thought it would be cool. At that time, we were both in different bands that fell apart and broke up by chance at the same time. The stars aligned and that was a chance for us to start a new band together so we brought in his best friend from high school, a guy named Ryan [Weiss]. We all got together in Ryan’s mom’s garage that summer and we jammed away, got about ten songs together, and then started playing shows around early 2016.

Describe the sound…

Since the beginning it’s been influenced by a lot of ‘60s bands and a lot of ‘90s bands. So a lot of ‘60s psychedelia influence from Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Cream, The Zombies — a lot of guitar work from back then. And also, a lot of straightforward, grittier rock from the ‘90s — bands like Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana. Some punk and also bands like Weezer. Some newer indie type stuff like Death Cab for Cutie. A lot of the songwriting was taken from the newer bands and then fused with the psychedelic ‘60s musical arrangements. That’s how we started, and we’re still very much on that page. Our sound has progressed and developed, but that’s still very much what we are.

What do you write about?

All kinds of stuff. I try not to limit myself too much as far as subject material goes. Recently I’ve been writing a lot about the struggle of pursuing the dream of music while trying to pay rent and being able to afford to eat and live while all the while putting all your energy into your music and work. A lot of the songs have that feeling in there. I also write about things that everyone writes about — relationships going well, relationships going poorly, losing friends, what it means to grow up and not lose the way you saw the world as a kid.

Do you enjoy van life and touring?

I enjoy it very much. I’m driving in the band’s van right now that we just got for this tour we’re about to go on. But even when it’s gritty and dirty I enjoy it. We all love travelling to new cities and meeting new people.

What can we expect from the L.A. set?

You can expect a band that’s gonna be really tight and practised, coming off a string of 20+ shows. We might be a little tired but that’s ok.

What this tour is over, what else do you have planned for 2019?

Our big plans are releasing our second album, Season 2. We want to out that out in the fall so we’re getting that together. We want to make some new music videos. Hopefully, plan some bigger shows back in L.A. and build our fanbase more.

Raised On TV plays with Tres Jolie, Valley Echo, Sorry Party and the War Toys at 9 p.m. on Friday, August 16 at the Maui Sugar Mill. - LA Weekly

"Raised on TV: "Old Journals""

Out fresh with a debut record, we've got the latest track from Raised on TV.

Natives to Los Angeles, the band is a mix of indie rock and roll—keeping the old school feels alive. The debut record titled, Season 1 contains fourteen tracks of that nature. Their latest single, "Old Journals" is an uptempo rock track that's perfect for a day out with friends. Live on the West Coast? You'll definitely be digging the vibe. - Gas Mask Magazine

"The Matinee November 21st"

Some songs are meant for long road trips, but there are the rare gems that sound exactly like what a road trip is. Such is the case with Raised on TV‘s new single, which just so happens to be about a road trip. As the jangly surf-rock vibe and the soothing vocals ring through the song, a feeling of adventure and excitement overcomes you. It’s the feeling you get when the ocean breezes gently sweep over your face, the smell of the sea overwhelms your senses, and the views of the rocky coastline leave you breathless. Now whether the song is just a weekend getaway or re-capturing the journey tens of thousands took back in the ’60s and early ’70s to the famous folk festival is unclear, but this tune would work for both scenarios.

“Big Sur (Up the Coast)” is taken from Raised on TV’s debut album, Season 1, which is out now and get be picked up on Bandcamp. If you think this song echoes Real Estate, then seriously check out the entire LP.

The band is comprised of Keaton Rogers (vocals/guitar), Kacey Greenwood (drums), and Ryan Weiss (bass). - The Revue

"Video Premiere: Raised On TV – “Big Sur (Up The Coast)”"

New Noise Magazine is relaxed and ready for the weekend thanks to the premiere of “Big Sur (Up The Coast)” by Raised On TV. The song is sentimental, invoking feelings of time travel and traveling back through the always distant path. The tone of the song feels reflective, always searching for the memories and moments where one was totally free. “Big Sur (Up the Coast)” is a summer song to play with the windows down, taking in the fresh scenery around and soul searching to learn to let go. The song is off of the upcoming full length, Season 1, slated for release on October 20th.

Raised On TV had this to say about the song:

The inspiration for the video came mostly from older 90’s style videos, Foo Fighters “Learn to Fly,” Blink 182 videos, as well as Weezer videos, and also from some Beatles videos (their songs, “Rain” and “Paperback Writer”) Videos that showed the bands not taking themselves too seriously, and also showing a lighter side to the band. We were looking to incorporate some humor, so that’s where the whole triple tandem bike adventure with Keaton playing a Venice Beach, eccentric, weirdo, sort of guy came from. Keaton has done a lot of crazy character style acting so we thought it would be fun to bring that into Raised on TV.

We searched all over town for that triple tandem bike rental, and after calling about fifty places, as well as going to a bunch without any luck, we almost gave up on the concept. Apparently, triple tandems are extremely rare in LA nowadays, they have been banned from the beach trail in Santa Monica and Venice so no one carries them. Everyone told us we were crazy and would never find one to rent. We could buy one, but that would take an extra few thousand dollars that we definitely did’nt have. We found the one triple bike left in all of West Los Angeles to rent!! It took fifty one calls! So, don’t give up on your dreams is the lesson of this story.

Also, while filming the footage of us playing on the beach at El Matador, there was a girl doing a nude photo-shoot at one point in front of us. She was just doing her thing, same as us I suppose. So if you see us smiling during that footage, now you know why. - New Noise Magazine

"Raised on TV prepares new album and two music videos this summer"

Raised on TV arrived on the L.A. music scene on a mission to rock the house starting on festivals and the club circuit. The three musicians behind their high energy and alternative rock sound are Keaton Rogers on guitar and lead vocals, his brother Kacey Greenwood on drums and their mutual friend Ryan Weiss on bass and back-up vocals. Since their debut in 2015, they have explored new dimensions of rock music and now have a niche sound that fits their vision for what's next for alternative rock reaching back to 60's rock for musical flavor with influences from the Beach Boys, The Who and Led Zeppelin.

In a recent interview with AXS.com, the band's lead vocalist and guitarist Keaton Rogers talked about the band's journey from late night garage jam sessions to becoming a rising band on the touring circuit. Rogers shared that the key to their success is long jam sessions; they “always lead to discovering new music and even themselves as musicians.” “Big Sur” and “Iced Coffee” are two of their recent indie releases that illustrate their ability to create pop-rock fusion in a way that elevates alternative rock to a mainstream platform. They are working in studio currently on their upcoming album release, Season One, scheduled to debut in the late summer of 2017 along with new official music videos for“Hurting for You” and “Big Sur” coming out in July 2017.

“For this video, we thought it would be fun to go on some kind of ridiculous space adventure, something out of Star Trek or Lost in Space, just way more cheesy. So we turned our actual band van (named ‘Polly’ after the Nirvana song, since the van is from 1991, Nevermind reference) into a spaceship with the use of cardboard wings and a green screen, turned the garage where we practice into a ‘Space Garage’ with glow stars and lasers, and got into some astronaut suits. Because… why not?! Something of note, the actor who plays the alien in the ‘Hurting for You’ video, Matt Ukena, also appears in our first music video, for the song ‘Big Sur,’ both are songs from our debut album, ‘Season 1’ (set for release on 10/20/17.) He plays the beautiful man bikini model at the end of Big Sur. You can say he has become our non-traditional ‘video vixen.’ It wasn’t something we set out to do from the start, but we’re happy it happened that way, and we plan to have him appear in more of our videos, assuming he is available. For the production of this video, we worked with Shane Tometich, Victoria Greenwood, and Steven A. Soria. In the video, if you watch closely toward the end of the Alien planet sequence, you’ll see Matt (the alien) spit his space beer out and smile. It didn’t make the final cut, but we have footage of all of us getting into an improved space beer spitting spree, one of those spur of the moment type things. Matt was very committed to his alien character. We can’t wait to release this album and this video! We were at the beach for the first song, and now we’re in space! We’re excited to see where we go next, and we hope you come with us…” - IdobiRadio.com

"Be Yourself: Raised on TV’s Advice"

Keaton Rogers offers some excellent advice, tells his band’s story, and elaborates on how they’ve arrived where they are: about to release their debut album titled “Season 1” and two months away from playing at the youbloomLA 2017 Music Summit & Festival.

Garage Band Beginnings

Keaton, Kacey, and Ryan, the members of Raised on TV, began “working away in Ryan’s mom’s garage” in the summer of 2015. Keaton and Kacey, who are brothers, “always thought it would be cool to be in a band together”. So when Keaton’s previous band disbanded and Kacey and Ryan’s previous band also fell apart, they joined forces to create Raised on TV.

With influences such as Weezer, Jimi Hendrix, Simon and Garfunkel, Pink Floyd, and Blink 182, there’s no doubt that Raised on TV’s first EP, released in 2016, had rock and roll roots. Since their humble beginnings, they’ve toured twice and recorded a full length album. And they “feel like [they’re] in a good place as a band.”

When asked about the band’s vision, Keaton joked that their band’s vision is “20/20 when [they] wear [their] glasses”

To “make and share quality music” is, “in all seriousness”, their true vision. Live performances hold an especially special place in their hearts, as Keaton stated “having an amazing concert experience is very much at the heart of our vision for our band.”

And if they can help others “get through a tough day” with their music, even better.

“It’s not about the competition”

Last year, Raised on TV entered a battle of the bands competition for a chance to play on the Vans Warped Tour. With 200 original contestants, they successfully navigated through the hoops to compete out of 8 groups in the final round. However, their “mindset was never that [they] were competing with other bands.” Instead, as Keaton states, they were just aiming to become “the best version of [themselves].”

Even though they lost in the final round, they reminded themselves that “it was never about winning in the traditional sense anyway. So, don’t get caught up in the competition. When you go see twenty or so amazing bands at a festival, there’s no first or second prize, no gold or silver medal, there’s a bunch of freaking awesome music and people there to enjoy it.”

Keaton’s word of advice? If an artist is true to themselves, “there will be nobody else like that artist and that’s what it’s all about.”

Romance at youbloomLA

Since it’s their first time at youbloomLA, Raised on TV is hoping for the usual: to develop connections, enjoy the music, and have a great time performing.

However, according to Keaton, it would also be neat if their drummer, who is “currently the only single member of the band” met someone and fell in love. Here’s hoping! - YouBloom LA

"LA Native Band Taking Back The Music Scene"

Raised On TV is an LA based, 3 piece band, deriving from the San Fernando Valley. Their mission: to bring rock to the masses. The formation of the band all started in 2015 when Keaton Rogers (vocals, guitar), Kacey Greenwood (drums), and Ryan Weiss (bass), all decided to join forces and begin their journey in Ryan’s mom’s garage. Keaton and Kacey, who are brothers decided to take on the music scene together when both their previous bands split up. Ryan, who is Kacey’s long time friend and old band mate, also came along for the musical ride, creating what is now know as, Raised On TV.

Keaton and Kacey both come from a very musical family in the industry, helping shape their experience and abilities. Keaton’s guitar skills are often compared to Jimi Hendrix mixed in with 90s influences. With these rock roots at the core of their sound, it is no wonder that their EP, released in 2016, brought some seriously comforting sounds to the kids of the 90s with a new age twist.

Raised on TV’s newest single “Big Sur (Up The Coast),” has a music video release date for September 8th. This song has already been reviewed by many music blogs saying it has an “easy-breezy (and yes, beautiful – what up, cover girl!) mix of alternative, rock and indie,” and that “these gents have perfected the sun-soaked soundtrack to accompany your next Sunday BBQ,” Christopher Gonda of PureGrainAudio.com. The music video is directed by Victoria Greenwood, sister to both Keaton and Kacey of the band. “We had a very specific plan for this video,” says Greenwood. “I wanted to make sure we got in the humor of the guys and pay homage to bands like Blink 182 and The Beatles with certain cinematic tricks while taking a wild ride (literally) with Raised On TV,” she continued. This is the first music video she has directed but added onto to the list of short films and other projects she has taken on.

Raised On TV is on their current tour, playing local in Los Angeles at The Mint, on September 12. - Killer Music Buzz

"BANDS WE LOVE: RAISED ON TV"

Raised on TV

Based from LA, Raised on TV will be competing at the Battle for Vans Warped Tour Finale on August 6th 2016. The band consists of Keaton Rogers (vocals/guitar), Kacey Greenwood (drums) and Ryan Weiss (bass). This rock trio is influenced by classic bands such as The Beatles and Pink Floyd to 90’s bands like Nirvana, Green Day and Blink-182.

Raised on TV’s music can be mostly described as an alternative indie rock band blended with the style of the sixties and nineties. Their music is mostly about life experiences such as childhood memories, maturing and “love in the digital age.” One of the biggest challenges they face is balancing adult life with that of a rock star. You can see them battle it out live for their spot at this year’s Vans Warped Tour.

"Alt-Rock trio Raised on TV drops debut album – Season 1"

In their debut album Season 1, Raised On TV digs into their alternative-rock sound that begs us to relive our teen angst in a way that is simultaneously carefree, nostalgic, and at times painful. The album is packed with lively vocal ballads and tasty guitar solos strewn throughout.

The album opens with Absent ( Something’s Not Right Here), a catchy melding of Keaton Rogers’ lyrical guitar melodies and vocals that become the focal point throughout the album. On closer inspection, the lyrics, “Asshole pervert, how did you ever become a teacher?” reveal a darker layer to the song. In canon with these dueling layers of upbeat rock and troubling wordage is the track, Teenage Medication. The song starts out comical with a mom discovering her child’s bong and taking it away. From here it nestles into a dimmer reality that many of us can relate to with the lyrics, “Teenage medication, it’s all we have to fix a situation, but it’s not fixed, it’s just medicated.”

Track after track, Season 1 delivers with that solid rock vibe brought about by pulsating drum breaks, echoing guitar etudes, and vocals made gritty by an audio effect that begins to feel iconic to Raised On TV’s sound. This is the work of a band that clearly knows what it is and to some extent this might actually work against the group. At times, one track blends so well into the next that I didn’t notice the change. While this could be interpreted as seamless and smooth transitioning, it could also be considered a lacking in audio diversity. You’ll have to be the judge of that.

Raised On TV combats its darker content well with it’s carefree and kick-ass vibes, which are especially strong in the track Big Sur (Up the Coast). As the title suggests, this song evokes feelings of airiness; the liberation that comes with the cool, salt-stained breeze that meets you as you drive the beautiful Highway 1 up the coast to Big Sur, California.

On the whole, Season 1 grooves from one track to the next with a familiar kick-assery that reminds us that blink-182 and Fall Out Boy disciples are alive and well. The lyrical content is often snarky and exhilarating. At times though, the album is flecked with the feeling of loss and searching that occupies so many of our young adulthood’s as we strive to find our place after the haze of teenage angst has settled.

Season 1 is out now on Spotify and Soundcloud along with their EP Jam in the Van (Live Sessions). When not touring the coast, the band fills venues regularly in Los Angeles where they are based. If the holiday festivities have brought those parent-induced pangs of adolescence-past rushing back to you, then let Raised on TV help you detox. They’ll be playing at DBA 256 in Pomona, Ca. on December 28th. - NoGossipLA.com

"[VIDEO PREMIERE] Raised On Tv – Old Journals"

Having garnered plenty of attention through their energetic- and notoriously fun- live show, Los Angeles alt-rock trio, Raised On TV released their debut album, Season One back in October. Ahead of dates across America’s West Coast, today we’re premiering the video to the band’s new single, Old Journals.

The band have described the video as, “a retrospective collage of moments from the early stages of the band, a sort of video journal”, and it is made up of camera phone footage of life on the notoriously difficult American underground scene. A world of van breakdowns, desert camp-outs and even the odd gig, if you’re lucky.

Musically, the track seems to blur the lines between Saves The Day’s energetic, emotive-pop and The Mountain Goats’ more nuanced, intricate moments. There’s something classically college-rock about their music, yet Raised On TV stop well short of sounding like a late-1990’s pastiche, instead sounding fresh and exciting. They’re only on Season 1, yet you feel like this is one TV show that’s going to run and run. - For the Rabbits

"Raised On TV – Caroline – Audio"

The US alt-rock trio Raised On TV are finalizing details for their appropriately named second LP – Season 2.

On hitting play on the first song to surface from the album – Caroline, which was released as a standalone single last week (available on bandcamp), the listener is tempted to think they are heading off to a fairly standard indie track only to find within a few bars that the bright-light neon entrance leads to a trippy-rock derived composition which takes the mind on a wave of kaleidoscopic colors. - Emerging Indie Bands

"Raised on TV release new single ‘Caroline’"

'Caroline’ is the latest single from LA’ s Raised on TV. This song is the first single off their second album called ‘Season 2’. Raised on TV are renowned for their energetic fun gigs. They have been busy this year touring including festivals. ‘Caroline’ is a song with a great meaning. If you have something great in front of you, don’t take it for granted! Check out this amazing song named after the lead singer and the guitarist's girlfriend here. - Music Injection

"Listen: Raised on TV – ‘Caroline’"

Check out this wonderfully fuzzy, constantly building alternative rock banger of a tune – melodic in a similar vein to Silversun Pickups or Hundred Reasons, this is ferocious, and effortlessly catchy.

This is the first single from our new album, which happens to be the band’s second album, titled “Season 2.” It was mixed by Mark Needham and Ben O’Neil (The Killers, Imagine Dragons) and recorded on the same board that was used for The Killers’ album, ‘Hot Fuss’.

The song is about not losing sight of what’s right in front of you, and the song is named after the lead singer and guitarist’s girlfriend. - Soundsphere Magazine

"Los Angeles Rockers RAISED ON TV Want to Introduce You to Their New Single “Caroline” [Exclusive Premiere]"

Los Angeles, California rockers, Raised on TV, who we previously featured via the debut of the “Big Sur (Up The Coast)” single, are back with another rad new track! This time around the alt/indie rock three-piece are sharing “Caroline”, the lead single from their upcoming album sophomore full-length, Season 2, which follows the group’s debut Season 1 (which we suggest you check out on Spotify).

Speaking of the new album single, the band collectively commented:

“It [‘Season 2’] marks a big transitional period for the band, where things began to get more serious. We weren’t just friends messing around in the garage anymore, we were really trying to focus in and make something special. ‘Caroline’ is named after the lead guitarist’s girlfriend, and the song is about learning how to wake yourself up when life begins to feel like a dream.

To put it another way, sometimes the most important things in our lives can get out of focus by the nature of being so close to them. When we first started to play this song in Ryan’s garage, his mom was humming the melody when we all walked into the kitchen. This definitely encouraged us to keep going with it, and made us feel like there was something special in this song.” - PureGrain Audio

"The 15 Best Indie Tracks of August 2018"

The guitar that we're introduced to on this track has such a classic feel. This is alternative at its finest, with a danceable rhythm and a smooth vocal to keep us transfixed. This is a song about Caroline, where we can't forget to remember who we are, and can't lose sight. And if it's a dream, we don't want to wake up. The track is out now digitally on the major platforms. - Magnetic Magazine

"[INDIE ROCK] Raised on TV — Caroline"

This is the first single from what will be our 2nd full album, titled “Season 2.” (Follow up to “Season 1” of course.) It marks a big transitional period for the band, where things began to get more serious. We weren’t just friends messing around in the garage anymore, we we’re really trying to focus in and make something special. “Caroline” is named after the lead guitarist’s girlfriend, and the song is about learning how to wake yourself up when life begins to feel like a dream. To put it another way, sometimes the most important things in our lives can get out of focus by the nature of being so close to them. This song was written in an effort to not lose sight of the special things right in front of your face, in this case, a relationship. It was recorded at a studio in Hollywood with the same mixing board that the Killers’ album “Hot Fuss” was recorded on. Also, it was mixed by Mark Needham and Ben O'neil. Mark Needham was behind the mixes of many of the hits off The Killers’ “Hot Fuss” album, one of those being the song “Mr. Brightside.” - The Indie Folx

"100 Best Songs of 2018"

This is just damn good songwriting. Good earworm melodies, perfect and efficient structure, nifty guitar licks, an absolutely killer guitar solo etc. The production is also top notch, with layered radio-ready guitar tones, a tight low end and polished harmonies.

I wish I had more to say about this song, but it’s really just such a solid display of pop-rock craftsmanship that it speaks for itself. There’s no fat to trim, and the production perfectly matches the song’s excellent dynamics. - Big Smile Magazine

"L.A. Alt-Rockers RAISED ON TV Welcome You to "Smog City" with Their Latest Track [Exclusive Premiere]"

We’ve all been kind of “raised on TV” when you think about it. Right? Well, this three-piece alternative/indie rock band took it to heart and have named their band Raised On TV and, today, we have the premiere of their new single “Smog City.” This is the Los Angeles band’s second single from their new album, Season 2, preceded by the track “Caroline”, which we also previously premiered.

Raised On TV feature a “cool” mix of alternative, rock, and indie which would be the perfect soundtrack to your summer weekend backyard barbecue. Awesomely, “Smog City” was tracked during a recording session at Studio 606, the notorious recording studio of none other than Dave Grohl!

Commenting on “Smog City,” guitarist and vocalist Keaton Rogers said, “Musically, this is one of our earliest songs. We’ve been jamming it since the beginning but we never had words that stuck. Some inspiration for the lyrics came though when I started driving Lyft late at night in Los Angeles. It’s a job that Kacey (drums) did as well for a while. Driving Lyft or Uber, one can feel both connected to their city and distanced from it at the same time, and that’s the idea this song is tapping into with the lyrics.

Your car is the setting. It’s an intimate space, and every passenger is a new walk of life with their own story and history. Everyone is coming and going into the night, and as the driver, there is this feeling of closeness as well as isolation. It can drive you crazy after a while, so this song is about dealing with all that and trying to make sense of it.” - PuregrainAudio.com

"Raised on TV “Smog City”"

Tracked in esteemed Foo Fighters lair Studio 606 this melodic rock track is about driving Lyft in Los Angeles. The instrumentation is a familiar rock sound with some fuzzy guitars and a slightly monotone sounding lead vocalist who must be tired from driving the car all night. Having living in Los Angeles for a while this is an incredibly accurate representation of the city and the artistry and mix is very solid which is not surprising because the mix was done by Ben O’Neil and Mark Needham. The timbre of the vocalist has comparable timbres to other acts of considerable notoriety while also maintaining a sense of individuality. A selling point of the song that caught me in particular is the choreographed instrumentals around 2:10. I am really excited to share this act with you and I’m looking forward to what 2019 has for Raised on TV.

More on this very interesting act:

The Los Angeles based rock trio, Raised on TV, is currently in the midst of creating their second full length album titled “Season 2”, and has recently released “Caroline”, the first single from the album.

It was described by Soundsphere Magazine as a “wonderfully fuzzy, constantly building alternative rock banger of a tune – melodic in a similar vein to Silversun Pickups or Hundred Reasons, this is ferocious, and effortlessly catchy.” The response to the new single has been amazing, getting picked up by several featured Spotify and Youtube playlists (“All New Rock”, “Fresh Finds”, “Fancy Melancholic) and the band is super excited to finish up the rest of the tracks, which are being done at Dave Grohl’s studio, 606. Caroline was recorded at The Elephant in the Room studio in Hollywood with Ethan Kaufmann on the same board that was used to track the Killers’ album “Hot Fuss” and it was mixed by Ben O’Neil and Mark Needham (The Killers, Imagine Dragons, Neon Trees.)

Raised on TV is comprised of brothers, Keaton Rogers (guitar, vocals) and Kacey Greenwood (drums) and rounded out by Kacey’s best friend from high school, Ryan Weiss (bass). All three members grew up in the extra hot San Fernando Valley, and formed the band that would become Raised on TV in the Summer of 2015.

They recorded and released their first EP, “The Pilot EP” in 2016 with producer Flavio Monopoli, and followed that with as much touring and as many live shows as possible, in their hometown of LA, and then also traveling up to Canada and playing everywhere in between for what was titled “The Soccer Mom Mini-van Tour.”

The band got to work on their first full length album, “Season 1” in early 2017 with producer Josiah Mazzaschi (Light FM, Part time Punks) recording at his “Cave Studio” in Glassel Park. It was released later that year, along with their first three music videos. The album charted on the NACC top 200 and was described by NoGossipLA.com as “grooving from one track to the next with a familiar kick-assery that reminds us that blink-182 and Fall Out Boy disciples are alive and well. The lyrical content is often snarky and exhilarating. At times though, the album is flecked with the feeling of loss and searching that occupies so many of our young adulthood’s as we strive to find our place after the haze of teenage angst has settled.”

They saved up and bought a beaten up 1991 Ford van that they named “Polly” (a Nirvana reference) and toured up the west coast several times as well as throughout the American southwest, playing in Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada for the “Looking for Aliens Tour” and then the “Season 1 Tour.” That van is currently broken down and awaiting repair after a crazy and traumatic (and fun) night in Las Vegas. After the breakdown, the band embarked upon the “Broken Down Van Tour” for shows and festivals in the American North West. A lot of footage from these early tours can be seen in the music video for their song “Old Journals.” They’ve played over 125 shows in their first two years as a touring band, strongly believing in the hard work and hustle that it takes to get a rock band off the ground. Some of their more notable shows have been sharing the bill with Jefferson Starship and Ozomatli at The Topanga Days Festival. - It's Not Records

"Listen: Raised On TV – ‘Smog City’"

Straight out of the Foo Fighters and JEW anthem playbook comes Raised On TV with ‘Smog City’. Indeed, this still has a unique, more edgy, punkier vibe that manages to both excite and evoke. - Soundsphere Magazine

"Raised on TV – “Smog City”"

Los Angeles-based indie trio Raised on TV released the second single off their new album, Season 2. The new single, “Smog City” was recorded at Foo Fighter Dave Grohl’s famed studio, Studio 606. Raised on TV’s sound is reminiscent of Broken Social Scene meets Death Cab for Cutie. Lyrically, the band’s song is all about grinding for Lyft in the big city and being a fly on the wall with strangers from all over the place. The band’s full length is available on all digital platforms but in the meantime enjoy “Smog City” below. - BuffaBlog

"Week30 |Tobi’s New Music Monster Picks"

Out of the heat and haze, the endless daze and the sunstroke craze of the San Fernando Valley, alt-rock three-piece Raised on TV drop a three-minute 21-second slice of saturation at speed, with new single, “Smog City”. Having released their debut album, the fourteen track, ‘Season 1’ back in 2017, Raised on TV spent much of 2018 working on material for their follow up album, the logically titled, ‘Season 2’. Their one release of the year coming in the form of stand out track, ‘Caroline’; recorded at Hollywood’s Elephant in the Room Studio with Ethan Kaufman (The Killers) and mixed by Ben O’Neil and Mark Needham (Imagine Dragons, Neon Trees). The LA-based trio kick off 2019 with their latest release, “Smog City”; a fast-paced, distortion on a six string, driveby with ear-catching indie lyrics and a ‘jump ‘n’ down’ beat. Smart use of contrasting overdrive, fuzz and crunch makes for compelling counterplay between guitar parts (Keaton Rogers); working the tones from glorious garage grunge to shimmering alt-rock anthem. The drums (Kacey Greenwood) are worked light and tight, shifting in a series of snaps and slaps; more Bruce Lee than a heavyweight prizefighter. The bass (Ryan Weiss) alternates from nimbly shadowing the guitar to breaking out in well-timed, tastefully judged licks, bringing additional dimension and depth to the track. Rogers’ vocals echo out from the center, set well in reverb and harmony. His voice drawing the listener in with a laid back delivery; confident that the well-written lyrics and melody will do the work. The vocals perfectly pitched to encourage singalong, without being ‘too catchy’ for the notoriously fickle independent scene.

‘Next time on, Raised on TV. Will the band release their follow-up album? Stay tuned to find out. Whatever you do, don’t touch that dial.’ - Brash Magazine

"Morning River Band // talker // Sheldoncole // Raised on TV // LegPuppy"

Rock trio, RAISED ON TV, comes at us with ‘Smog City’. A single that is twisted and ethereal, in contrast to what you’d expected from the get go. Creating anomalies like ‘Smog City’ is hard. And as the gang in the band, works on their 2nd full length album ‘Season 2’, the song ‘Smog City’ delivers an uncanny kind of shivers, with notes that haunt while exulting in attitude and vaunted glamor. It’s an interesting combination, indeed. Where story telling about an aromatic subject, is quickly turned sideways, then back again, widens our eyes in awe and admiration. It’s a weird but fabulous feeling. The band is made up of Keaton Rogers, Kacey Greenwood, and Ryan Weiss; and they want to keep you engaged. They surely did us, for sure. - Come Here Floyd

"New Music – Raised On TV ‘Smog City’"

Los Angeles based alt-rock trio Raised on TV offer up their new single ‘Smog City’ – the band’s latest helping of their second album titled ‘Season 2’. The band are said to be ‘super excited’ for the final product to be finished and why not when the finishing touches are being put on your music at Dave Grohl’s 606 studio.

‘Smog City’ brings a lot to the table, for starters there’s a underlying feeling of the grunge-era that seeps into the guitar work giving a nostalgic edge. There is also the wavy Tame Impala-esque middle section and subtle moments of americana that bring their own inflections of yesteryear. Despite this the band state that the song is about driving for Lyft (that’s American for Uber) in LA, which both two members of Raised On TV have done as a side hustle. - Yack Magazine

"Raised on TV release new single ‘Smog City’"

Raised on TV are a LA based rock trio who are flat out working on their second full length album titled “Season 2” This trio are two brothers and a best friend from high school. ‘Smog City’ is their second single from “Season 2”. Tracked at Studio 606 (Dave Grohl’s studio which houses the notorious Sound City board) at the end of last year. with Brendan Dekora (Muse, Foo Fighters) co-producing and Ben O’Neil (The Killers, Neon Trees) mixing. They sure are talented! I liked ‘Smog City’ right from the start. The catchy hook was awesome. I adore the vocals, they are just the sound I prefer. I like how around the middle of the song the guitar takes over almost as if it is having a tantrum. The song is about Keaton and Kacey driving for Lyft in LA as a second job. I feel this is a song that needs to be heard by the world. I love it. Take a listen here. - Music Injection

"“Caroline” and “Smog City” by Raised on TV – Song Features"

As the trio moves toward the release of the next album, Raised on TV is two for two. The first successful “at bat” occurred in 2018, when “Caroline” received acclaim in the blogosphere. The vocal approach at the start of each of the three verses is attention-grabbing. The first line is divided into three parts by pauses, with the third being the most melodic. Thus, the lyrics begin “Don’t…. forget…. to remember” - the lyrics of "Caroline" are included below. Still, it’s the guitar bridge that is particularly praiseworthy, starting at 2:07.

“Smog City” is the second positive “at bat.” The Los Angeles-based band more readily features its Rock side in the song that was inspired by driving for a ride-hailing company (Lyft). Sometimes separately and other times together, “Smog City” displays the band’s skills on guitar, bass and percussion. Thus, the drumming may not use drumskins, such as started around the two-minute mark (likely sticks against metal rim). And the guitar goes into tremolo (as in Blue Oyster Cult’s “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper”) at 1:13, until the bass makes its presence known twelve seconds later.

The members of Raised on TV are brothers Keaton Rogers (guitar, vocals) and Kacey Greenwood (drums), along with Kacey’s best friend from high school, Ryan Weiss (bass). All three members grew up in the San Fernando Valley. They formed the band that became Raised on TV in 2015. “Caroline” and “Smog City” will be on the album “Season 2,” which follows the 2017 album “Season 1.” It’s appropriate that a band that calls itself Raised on TV should refer to its albums on the basis on seasons.

“Smog City” was tracked during a session at Studio 606 (Dave Grohl's studio, which houses the notorious Sound City board) in late 2018 with Brendan Dekora (Muse, Foo Fighters) co-producing and Ben O'Neil (The Killers, Neon Trees) mixing. The song is about driving for Lyft in LA, which both Keaton and Kacey have done as a side job. - Indie Obsessive

"Video Premiere: "Caroline" by Raised On TV"

Raised On TV began where every rock band should: in the garage. In 2015, brothers Keaton Rogers and Kacey Greenwood started banging out melodic, fuzzed-out tunes with their high school buddy Ryan Weiss. They soon realized they had some seriously good songs, so it was time to get serious. One EP, one full-length, and more than a few DIY tours later, they are ready to release their second LP titled Season 2.

The first single, “Caroline,” is a driving, distorted number. Its loose, yet locked-in verses recall the best of Teenage Fanclub and lift off into a rock-solid power pop chorus that will bounce around your mind and take its own sweet time to leave. The guys knew they had a gem on their hands when they emerged from the aforementioned garage to find Ryan’s mom humming the song – and that’s a tough audience!

The band knew they needed to up their production game for Season 2, so they reached out to Grammy-nominated engineer Mark Needham. He’s produced tracks for Fleetwood Mac, Imagine Dragons, and Bloc Party, and is the guy who mixed the Killers’ double-platinum Mr. Brightside in all of 40 minutes. He liked what he heard and brought Raised On TV into Hollywood’s Elephant In The Room studio.

The Big Takeover is pleased to host the premiere of the video for “Caroline”, which was directed by Keaton and Kacey’s actress sister, Victoria Greenwood, alongside Keaton.

In the video, Raised on TV performs in front of surreal Technicolor projections for some classic ’60s psychedelic visuals. Throughout the clip, the guys find themselves in black-and-white, and decidedly less dreamy, situations – teaching school, working at a music store, doing the chores. We all need fantasy, but we have to remember that every day is still extraordinary.

It was a Green Day / Blink-182 show that convinced Keaton and Kacey to make the jump from acting in commercials and getting bit parts in movies to writing and rocking 3-minute bursts of high-energy pop. You can hear some Blink-182 and Green Day in there, alongside some Weezer and, dare we say, a bit of the Beatles, but Keaton’s voice and melodies are distinctly his own.

Keaton (guitar, vocals) spills some details about the track, explaining, ““Caroline” is first single off our 2nd full length album, Season 2 (which is not yet released.) It marks a big transitional period for the band, where things began to get more serious. We weren’t just friends messing around in the garage anymore, we we’re really trying to focus in and make something special. The song is named after the lead guitarist’s girlfriend, and the song is about learning how to wake yourself up when life begins to feel like a dream. To put it another way, sometimes the most important things in our lives can get out of focus by the nature of being so close to them. It was written in an effort to not lose sight of the special things right in front of your face, in this case, a relationship.” - The Big Takeover Magazine

"5@5: A morning playlist featuring MSQRD and Mike Mago"

As most bands and billion dollar businesses form (Apple and Amazon), Raised On TV started in a garage. Within the lyrics of the music, the lead vocalist can’t tell whether he’s dreaming or not. Watch the official visual for ‘Caroline’, a song by Los Angeles musical trio Raised On TV that has the same name as my older sister. Let the group know if they are hallucinating or if it is a reality. It’s from the band’s second full-length called, ‘Season 2’. - Grungecake.com

"Raised on TV - Caroline"

Powered by soaring melodies and chord progressions that pull you into the song, Raised On TV's "Caroline" is a representation of the Alt Rock genre today. Which is great. After looking on social media to find another band to feature, I stumbled upon the music video for the Raised On TV single "Caroline". The vocal melody and rhythm of the song gave me Cage the Elephant and Oasis vibes. The trio proves in "Caroline" that they are talented songwriters and know how to write a good Alt Rock/Pop track that is hooky and wholesome with crystal clear guitar tones, mid range bass and driving drums. Vocalist/Guitarist Keaton Rogers also shines through his lyrics throughout the song and this is a great strength in all of their other material too. "Unsigned Spotlight: Raised On TV"

Raised On TV began where every rock band should: in the garage. In 2015, brothers Keaton Rogers and Kacey Greenwood started banging out melodic, fuzzed-out tunes with high school buddy Ryan Weiss. They soon realized they had some seriously good songs, so it was time to get serious.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band. Keaton Rogers - Guitar, lead vocals
Kacey Greenwood - Drums
Ryan Weiss - Bass, BG Vocals

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Raised On TV? How long has the band been around?

Raised on TV has been around for about three and a half years now, and we all were in bands prior to Raised on TV. Kacey and Ryan were in a rock band together called “The Lifted” that broke up for various reasons, and Keaton was (still is) in a comedy, country act called Travis Creeps and the Mighty Swooners. He was also in a rock band called Birds thru Blinds that also broke up for various reasons. The break up of our rock bands all coincided and that’s when we formed Raised on TV.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

The name comes from all of us trying to come up with something that we could all relate to in one way or another. We kept coming up with names where one, or maybe two of us, would like the name, and then somebody else would hate it, so we’d scrap it. We went through hundreds, perhaps thousands of names, before we settled on Raised on TV. I still have all the lists somewhere. Some of the scrapped names: “Electric Treehouse” “Juicebox Revolt” “The Fold-ins” “Paper Spaceship” and “Victory Kid” which ended up becoming the name for a friend’s band. Raised on TV has some layers of meaning for us in the sense that we all grew up in Los Angeles and did some child acting. We grew up in and around show business, so that’s part of the meaning. We also just found the name to be kind of fun and memorable, which was something we were trying to convey with our name.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Mostly Keaton writes the songs, but we’ve been writing more collectively through jam sessions recently. Many of the themes have been about growing up and not losing touch with the kid that is within all of us. That was largely the theme of our first album, Season 1, and I guess it had a lot to do with what we were experiencing at the time. Keaton writes a lot about friendships and relationships in his life, trying to understand why they did or didn’t work out. Many of the songs have a philosophical approach in the lyrics, about points of view, perception, different ways of seeing the world, trying not to lose focus of what really matters in life. Many have been about the hustle and grind of trying to make it as a rock musician in this day and age, working multiple jobs, day and night. Our song Smog city is about the craziness of driving for Lyft in LA.

A lot of the recent songs have had that theme of grinding through the day and hustling through the night. Some of the songs are more light hearted, about things like dirty college apartments, or about how writing love songs rarely helps get the one you love. We definitely try to mix it up and not limit ourselves to any one theme or style. We do think topics will change over time since so much of the writing comes from whatever we’re going through at that particular time in our lives, and that’s part of the fun, tracking the journey we’re on.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

There are definitely many. Currently, Band of Horses, Deathcab for Cutie, Queens of the Stone Age, Foo fighters, Built to Spill, Interpol, Guster, Smashing Pumpkins, Jimmy Eat World, to name some.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

There were many concerts early on that were definitely very inspirational, life changing even. Seeing Blink 182 and Green Day together for the Pop Disaster tour when I (Keaton) was a kid was amazing and definitely made me want to have my own band. Also saw a Foo Fighters concert at the Wiltern and a Who concert at The Hollywood Bowl that were both insanely influential at a young age. I got backstage at The Who concert and someone gave me a beer, which was a big deal in high school. It felt like a world I wanted to join. I also went to the warped tour, and that was amazing as a kid.

A lot of the bands of the 90s, Blink, Green Day, Weezer, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, the Offspring, to name some, had a strong impact on me and my motivation to start a band. Seeing Blink made me want to get a guitar. Those bands all conveyed something fun and cool about the band lifestyle. And then of course classic rock bands like the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, etc. all had a major impact as well. Those bands motivated me to learn different styles of rock guitar playing and also song writing. John Lennon was a huge source of inspiration as well.

What do you do to prepare for a show?

Getting into a great headspace is always ideal. I try to meditate, or go to a relaxing spot if possible on the day of a show. A little bit of whisky never hurts. Spending time with my cat the day of the show is nice. Kacey likes to stretch. As a group, we practice like crazy, and try to simulate a show atmosphere as much as possible in the garage, using dim lighting, a fog machine even at times, etc.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Opening for some bigger bands has been pretty awesome, like Marcy Playground and Jefferson Starship. Playing some bigger festivals, like Topanga days and the Whole Earth Festival. All the tours we’ve been able to do so far. Having one of our songs get featured on some big Spotify playlists recently was awesome.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

It would be awesome to tour with the Foo Fighters. They seem like really cool guys that could show you a good time, and also teach you a lot about being in a band and touring. It would also be fun to tour with an 80s rock band like Motley Crue or Van Halen, but not for too long because it would get way too insane and one of us would probably die.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

"Raised On TV – ‘Caroline’"

Raised On TV are an authentic garage band. Based in LA, they started in 2015 by brothers Keaton Rogers and Kacey Greenwood, they banded together with their high school friend, Ryan Weiss and soon realised their melodic fuzzed out tunes, which they were banging out in their garage, were really very good.

Fast forward to now, and one EP, one LP, and a few tours later, Raised On TV are set to release the ‘Season 2’ LP.

Knowing they needed someone special for ‘Season 2’, they called on the services of Grammy nominated engineer, Mark Needham, who’s produced for Fleetwood Mc, Imagine Dragons, and Bloc Party. He’s also the one who mixed ‘Mr Brightside’ for The Killers – in 40 minutes flat. Mark liked what he heard, and brought Raised On TV to the Elephant In The Room studio, in Hollywood.

First off the record is ‘Caroline’, a fast paced call to never lose sight of what’s important in your life. The video was directed by Keaton and their sister, actress Victoria Greenwood, and shows the band performing in front of Technicolor projections, in a classic 60s psych visual, which is interspersed with black and white footage. It’s hard rocking, jangling electric guitars, and has that breezy, sunshiney So-Cal sound to it that’s so frequently present in music from the City Of Angels.

Keaton and Kacey had originally been actors, like their sister, having roles in commercials and bit parts in movies. They then saw a Green Day/ blink-182 show, and decided to make the leap to music. There’s plenty of Green Day and blink in their sound – but there’s also hints of Weezer, The Beach Boys, and even The Doors, and The Beatles. Effectively, Raised on TV have blended them all and made a sound which is uniquely theirs.

The band knew they needed to up their production game for Season 2, so they reached out to Grammy-nominated engineer Mark Needham. "Raised On TV 'Caroline' video"

One EP, one full-length, and more than a few DIY tours later, they are ready to release the Season 2 LP.

The first single, “Caroline,” is a driving, distorted call to never lose sight of the special things right in front of your face and never let the important things in life lose focus. Its loose yet locked-in verses recall the best of Teenage Fanclub and lift off into a rock-solid power pop chorus that’ll bounce around your headspace and take its own sweet time to leave. The guys knew they had a gem on their hands when they emerged from the aforementioned garage to find Ryan’s mom humming the song- and that’s a tough audience.

Keaton and Kacey’s actress sister, Victoria Greenwood, directed the video alongside Keaton. Here Raised on TV performs in front of surreal Technicolor projections for some classic 60’s psychedelic visuals. Throughout the clip, the guys find themselves in black-and-white, decidedly less dreamy situations – teaching school, working at a music store, doing the chores. We all need fantasy, but we have to remember that every day is still extraordinary.

It was a Green Day / Blink 182 show that convinced Keaton and Kacey to make the jump from acting in commercials and getting bit parts in movies to writing and rocking 3-minute bursts of high-energy pop. You can hear some Blink and Green Day in there, alongside some Weezer and, dare we say, a bit of the Beatles, but Keaton’s voice and melodies are distinctly his own. - Music-News.com

"Track Of The Day – Raised On TV ‘Steal My Heart Away’"

Raised On TV only recently graced the webpages of Yack! Magazine with their previous single ‘Smog City’. Now the L.A. based trio give us another slice of their upcoming second album ‘Season 2’ in the form of ‘Steal My Heart Away’ – the third single from the band’s time recording at Dave Grohl’s 606 Studio. The band have been picking up plaudits across all their releases and are starting to build the kind of heat that they so readily deserve.

‘Steal My Heart Away’ brings through a surf infused, high energy rock song that not only was recorded at Dave Grohl’s studio but also sounds like the man himself had a large influence on this band. As melodic as early Foo’s album, as well as hints of the energetic riffs that are so commonly associated with more recent pop-punk acts such My Chemical Romance or The Offspring. Another stellar release from a band that commands more and more attention with every listen. - Yack Magazine

"New Music | Raised On TV – Steal My Heart Away"

Los Angeles’ Raised on TV have been causing a stir with the singles off their upcoming second album ‘Season 2’ and third single ‘Steal My Heart Away’ is sure to do the same.

A straight-to-the-point indie-rock jam, this tune doesn’t mess around, it hits you square in the chops from note one and maintain it’s driving pace through to the final lick. A dash of fuzz, some excellent twangy guitar tones and laid back floaty vocals all add to a perfect melodic and progressive track. The final third opens with a face melting solo before cutting back into the chorus before an abrupt end. Three minutes of punchy rock that anyone can get behind.

If this, and the previous singles, are anything to go by, their second album, being recorded at Dave Grohl’s studio, 606, should be an essential listen for any fans of the genre. - Clunk Magazine

"Raised on TV - Steal My Heart Away"

Raised on TV announce their second album with their rocking good mood number Steal My Heart Away while reviving the rock!

Raised on TV is an indie rock trio from Los Angeles, which formed in 2015. The two brothers Keaton Rogers and Kacey Greenwood and school friend Ryan Weiss released their first single in 2016 and followed up a year later with their first album Season 1. In 2019, it is time for Season 2 .

When I heard Steal My Heart Away for the first time, I thought that was going to be some generic number again, at most for a soft drink commercial or the part in the romantic comedy in which the protagonist pulls himself together and in a time lapse. Setting up his gated apartment would be enough. Do you know what i mean?

I was not that wrong either, but there was one place that got me right: the guitar solo.

Since the last great lead guitarist of this century has been John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers , I was really happy to hear a groovy solo in a rock song again. I mean, listen to what kind of power there is! This solo then upgraded the song for me and convinced me. It remains to be seen if Raised on TV will be able to maintain this energy throughout the album. Steal's My Heart Away is definitely an audible and energetic rock-board. - Picky Magazine

"Raised on TV - “Steal My Heart Away” [Free Song Download]"

We’re back with some more cool content from Los Angeles’ Raised on TV, our previous three features of whom can be found here. This time around, we’ve partnered with the three-piece rock combo to deliver a high-quality download of their new single, “Steal my Heart Away”. Did we mention it’s entirely FREE? The new jam was released on March 8th and recorded and engineered by Brendan Dekora at Northridge, CA’s 606 Studios - alternate streaming/purchase options are available at this location.

Running around LA since their conception in 2015, the trio are armed with one EP, one full-length, several music videos, and tons of energy and drive. They’ve gigged far and wide, performed at festivals and even opened for renowned acts such as Jefferson Starship and Marcy Playground. Now, with the finishing touches being place on their sophomore full-length at Dave Grohl’s 606 Studios, things continue to look busier. Note the tour dates below, plus be on the look out for the details surrounding their North American “Off the Couch Summer Tour of 2019” which will also hit Dallas, TX’s Deep Ellum Festival.

Commenting on their latest single, guitarist and singer Keaton Rogers said the following:

“Back in high school and college, I definitely wrote a good amount of love songs for girls I liked, and always thought they would be well received. They backfired about 95% of the time! I realized that obsessing over trying to say the right thing, and then to put that into a song, was a waste of time. It tended to scare girls away! It was better to embrace being off the cuff, not to care too much, but to be yourself in that process. So, ‘Steal my Heart Away’ is basically that lesson, in a song.”

Tour Dates:

04/06 - Deep Ellum Festival - Dallas TX
04/26 - Harvelle's - Santa Monica CA
05/12 - The Mint - Los Angeles CA

“The Off the Couch Summer Tour” 2019 Dates TBA - PuregrainAudio.com

"Discovery: Raised On TV"

Raised On TV are a rock trio from Angeles, with latest song Steal My Heart Away being recorded in Dave Grohl’s studio.

With a recommendation like that, these guys are sure to hit it big! The track is a rocking song weith huge riffs and great melodies, combining together to make something that is both heavy and harmonic. These guys will be big, so hear them here first! - York Calling

"Raised on TV – “Caroline” (Music Video)"

We could all use a reminder to appreciate the everyday details in life, while also finding colourful bursts of creative release. This is the underlying theme of the clip for Raised on TV’s “Caroline.” Following the release of The Pilot EP and their first full-length record, Season 1, Raised on TV are back for Season 2 — and if “Caroline” tells us anything, this album will be as melodically fuzzed-out as ever.

Raised on TV is made up of brothers Keaton Rogers and Kacey Greenwood, and their high school friend Ryan Weiss. For Season 2, the band has upgraded their production quality and enlisted the help of Grammy-nominated engineer Mark Needham. You know, the guy who mixed “Mr. Brightside” in forty minutes. The addition makes for a diverse soundscape that never sits still.

Playing with big and small, slow and fast, and — of course — colourful and monotone, “Caroline” bounces between spheres. It’s shoegaze done with a twist of sweet and sour. The track lulls and then bites, catches in your head before making a just-as-addictive twist.

The clip was co-directed by Keaton Rogers and his sister, Victoria Greenwood. Spinning between the moments of everyday life — the tedium of working, the small pleasures of taking care of pets, the always-chores — and the vibrant psychedelic joys of performing (lit by liquid light), the clip is both dreamy and relatable. We all need an outlet, and we can be grateful that these guys found theirs.

To hear more from Raised on TV, you can find them at their website, SoundCloud, and on their Facebook page. You can also follow the band on Twitter. - New Sick Music

"Raised On TV “Caroline”"

Caroline, the latest by Raised On TV, has a very late-nineties / early 2000s indie rock sound to it. With sorrowful, somber lyrics matched alongside jangly, complex guitar lines and a rapidly-shifting instrumentation, Caroline has the band wear their influences (At The Drive-In, early Death Cab for Cutie) on their sleeve. We’d recommend playing Caroline a number of times to hear each of the distinct sections of the band. Raised on TV’s guitar solo (around the 2:15 mark) pushes the effort into an entirely higher plateau. With the rest of the band contributing at key moments, it’s no surprise that the music that issues forth on Caroline will bounce around listeners’ heads long after the track ceases to play. - NeuFutur Magazine

"RAISED ON TV PREMIERE VIDEO FOR ‘SMOG CITY’"

L.A.’s alt-rock outfit Raised On TV premiere their new music video, entitled “Smog City,” on Rawckus. Both the song and the video are lit.
Raised On TV

“Smog City” is the latest single off the band’s forthcoming album, Season 2, recorded at Hollywood’s Elephant In the Room studio under the guidance of Grammy-nominated engineer Mark Needham, who has worked with Fleetwood Mac, Imagine Dragons, Bloc Party, and the Killers.

Made up of brothers Keaton Rogers and Kacey Greenwood, along with Ryan Weiss, Raised On TV’s genesis occurred when the brothers attended a show featuring Green Day and Blink-182. After the show, the brothers abandoned their budding acting careers to pursue music. The band originated in a garage, playing fuzzed-out songs that were easy on the ears. Once the trio comprehended their sound went beyond good, they decided to get down to business. Before long, they had released an EP, a full-length album, and toured extensively, sharing the stage with Jefferson Starship and Marcy Playground.

The band is presently preparing to hit the road for 2019’s Off the Couch Summer Tour.

“Smog City” opens on a dirty emerging guitar, followed by the rumbling roll of the drums, as Keaton’s sonorous tenor, flavored with velvety textures, glides over the melody. Infused with gleaming colors, the alt-rock tune reflects tints of alt-pop surface hues. A soaring wailing guitar injects tight penetrating tones, adding intense sizzling depth and dimension to the harmonics.

The video, directed by Keaton Rogers and his sister, actress Victoria Greenwood, takes viewers on a trip through the streets of So-Cal in the middle of the night. Opening with the three members of the band sitting in the back of a cab, the visuals display the assortment of characters the driver picks up over the course of the evening, ranging from a mustached man with his cat in a carrier to a weird and wonderful hippie couple. All the characters are played by the band.

The best part of the video is when the band appears in the backseat dressed as party girls. One of them gets sick and heaves out the window, sending the other two into a tizzy.

With “Smog City,” Raised On TV offer a potent melody, contagious rhythm, and smooth vocals, as well as a trippy, engaging video. - Rawckus Magazine

"EP PREMIERE: RAISED ON TV – ‘AROUND THE SUN’"

Hailing from Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley, indie rockers Raised on TV are sharing their new EP, Around the Sun. While the official release date is Friday, September 30, you can check out the new project premiering today at New Noise.

Brother Keaton Rogers and Kacey Greenwood formed the band in 2016, now including keyboardist and bassist Chris Clark. Raised on TV embraced the wildly varying and fun nature that comes with being a member of an indie rock band—One night, you might be on a huge festival stage; the next, you might be playing an intimate house show.

Their first album, Season 1, released in 2017 charted on the NACC Top 200 as one of the few albums from unsigned bands to do so. The album was recorded in just three days, mostly with everyone playing in the same room, and the lead single, “Big Sur,” helped to establish the band’s dreamy, California rock sound.

The band’s second album, Season 2, was a more polished effort, mostly recorded at Dave Grohl’s 505 studio in Los Angeles. The first single, “Caroline,” also got picked up by a number of Spotify editorial playlists.

Raised on TV used the pandemic to focus on recording, carrying on to release a number of singles and music videos throughout 2021 and dropping their third studio album, Fernando, toward the end of the year.

The band are back to touring while putting their finishing touches on their fourth studio album, set for release in early 2023. Fortunately, Around the Sun is the perfect offering for listeners and fans in the meantime.

Rogers opens up about the EP:

“Both of these songs were written in a way that was a departure from previous Raised on TV material. Normally, when I’m writing a song, I sit down with an acoustic guitar and just crank something out. It’s what I’ve always known. It’s the ‘old-school’ way. For this album, and these songs in particular, I wanted to try something different. So, I started in the studio and experimented with guitar and keyboard sounds, making a track, and layering on top of it to see where it would take us. I wrote the lyrics while driving in my car and blasting the tracks. It was definitely cool to mix up the approach, and I think it took us somewhere that’s a little different.

“As far as the lyrics go, ‘Around the Sun’ is about all the work that goes into keeping a band afloat and how you can’t give up. The lyric “trade this lonely room for highway lights” in the song is simply about missing being on tour, which wasn’t an option during quarantine when I was writing the song. ‘Strangers in Pictures’ references the idea that everyone is a stranger in someone else’s family pictures, and it’s something that unites us all in this weird, unspoken, sort of way. It’s just another way we’re all connected, and there’s gotta be something to that, whether we see it or not.” - New Noise Magazine

Bio

Raised on TV is an indie rock band from the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, CA, that was formed by brothers Keaton Rogers and Kacey Greenwood in 2016 and now includes bassist and keyboardist Chris Clark. They have toured and played numerous venues and festivals all across North America, and have opened for established bands such as Jefferson Starship, Marcy Playground, Sponge, and Green Jello. They embrace the wildly varying and fun nature that comes with being an indie rock band, playing a giant festival stage one night, and a backyard college party the next.

Back in 2017, their first album “Season 1” charted on the NACC top 200 (one of few albums from unsigned bands to do so) and was described by NoGossipLA.com as “grooving from one track to the next with a familiar kick-assery that reminds us that blink-182 disciples are alive and well.” The band wanted to make an indie rock statement, recording the whole album in just three days, mostly with everyone playing in the same room. The lead single from the album, “Big Sur” helped establish the band’s dreamy California rock sound with PuregrainAudio.com describing it as “an easy-breezy (and yes, beautiful - what up, cover girl!) mix of alternative, rock and indie.” In a beaten up van, they toured up and down the west coast and all throughout the Southwest, heavily hitting the SoCal live circuit. They would end up driving that van into the ground, needing to abandon it after a show in Las Vegas.

Their second album, “Season 2,” a more polished effort, was recorded mostly at Dave Grohl’s 606 studio in Los Angeles, and the first single “Caroline” got picked up by some Spotify editorial playlists, being described by Soundsphere Magazine as a “wonderfully fuzzy, constantly building alternative rock banger of a tune – melodic in a similar vein to Silversun Pickups.”  “Soul on Fire”, the second single from the album was described by EarMilk as having “powerful jangly guitars and throbbing drums. The highly contagious roaring rock track details finding yourself in the digital age.” Season 2 opened some doors for the band. They were featured by LA Weekly, got to play “Jam in the Van,” and were able to get a new van of their own (replacing the beaten up one that broke down in Las Vegas.) They have since used that van to play everywhere possible, getting out to the East coast for the first time in the summer of 2019 for a national tour that was sponsored by the Firestone Walker beer company. A lot of early tour footage can be found in their music videos for the songs "Old Journals" and "Soul on Fire."

During the pandemic they focused on recording, and released singles and music videos all throughout 2021, dropping their third studio album “Fernando” toward the end of that year. One of those singles, “In the Valley,” helped them to be a featured artist of the week on Malibu’s KBUU 99.1 FM. JanglePop described the single as “mixing the crystalline jangly indie-pop of the Lost Ships with a subtle nod towards the indie-folk of The Decemberists.” That summer, they had the fortunate opportunity of being the backing band in a music video for the one and only David Hasselhoff.

The band has since gotten back to touring, and have been putting the final touches on their fourth studio album which will be released in early 2023 in collaboration with Sell the Heart Records. A new single is planned for release on 9/22 of this year! When the podcast LA Meekly asked the band why they do what they do, they had this to say: "We make the music that we do, simply because we love it. We love it at its best, and we love it at its worst. There’s something about recording songs that mean everything to you, and then getting out in a van, traveling as far as you can, and playing them live for people that is and always will be magical. We love the pursuit, the thrill of a great show and the reaction of the crowd, trying to get better every time we do it while embracing what it means to get tested on the road. It’s finding yourself through losing yourself. Were road dogs in it for the love of the game." P.S. The van that was abandoned in Las Vegas has since been rescued and now belongs to Keaton and Kacey's mom.
