"Albuquerque Alibi, May 2018 ~ by Sonic Reducer"

Full disclosure: I listened to this album being fully aware that, back in the day, there was a folk rock ensemble in this town called Blame It On Rachel that featured then-Alibi Calendars Editor Rachel Heisler on guitar and vocals. They were pretty decent. And Rachel wasn’t just some hippie girl with a guitar and sheaf full of Stones transcriptions tagging along after. This album on the other hand, is much more frenetic and eclectic than all that stuff from the past. With a panache for quirky belted effervescently to her style, Dreskin nails novelty pop on a record that features tasty oddities like “Dim Sum in Albuquerque.” Glitchy, shimmering pieces like “Pretty Dirty Face” and “Come The Night” set this collection apart from the normative though, providing listeners with a glimpse inside a singing soul. - Albuquerque Alibi

"Cd Release Party/Review: Albuquerque Alibi, March 2013 ~ by Captain America"

Captain America [ Thu Mar 28 2013 1:02 PM ]
The classic date of yore? A cozy supper place featuring a floor show. This Friday Rebekkah Dreskin invites you to a similarly catered affair. Dine on platters from Panda Express (served at 6 pm) followed promptly by her quirky (“Love Is A Stolen Bowling Ball”) and playful (“Dim Sum In Albuquerque”) songs. Picture Jill Sobule moving between keyboards and a programmed synth beats while throwing down rhymes about hooking up with pretty boys and girls or aspiring to be like Liz Phair and Chrissie Hynde (“Girls With Guitarz”). Her latest, sunny self-release, Blame It On Rebekkah, sits in stark contrast to earlier CDs of piano-based love and loss in a low-key Tori Amos vein. But just because Dreskin’s a bit more lighthearted this time around doesn’t mean she’s not putting all of her singular self into the work. Ten bucks gets you dinner and a show while a fiver is good for admission only. Low Spirits • Rebekkah Dreskin CD release • Fri Mar 29 • 6 pm • $5-$10 • 21+ - Albuquerque Alibi

Blame it on Rebekkah

How did this band become a reality?
RD: After having my daughter, I couldn’t manage being a single mom and having a live band, so I decided to start a new CD – Written, produced, all tracks by me. After I finished the CD, entitled Blame it on Rebekkah, I decided to take it live. There have been many players to come and go from the band. But this group has stuck around now for a few years, except for our newest member, bass player Chris “The Cannon”, who joined us this year.

Lead singer/Songwirter: Rebekkah Dreskin
Backup Singers: Magical Marge, Christini Martini
Sax: Lezzie Jessie
Vocals/Writing: Rebekkah Dreskin
Bass: Chris “The Cannon”

Who are your musical influences?
RD: Meatloaf, Ani DiFranco, Musical Theatre, Kid Rock, Prince, Neil Diamond.

Where does the inspiration for your music come from?
RD: Songs that force me to sing along. And Facebook memes.
What do you feel you are offering the music scene that isn't been seen now?
RD: Blame it on Rebekkah is unlike just about anything you see in the local music scene in Albuquerque; Starting with the bubbly pop/dance originals, to the middle-aged lady-rap, to the three part harmonies and vocal arrangements, to the combination of live and tracked instruments … and don’t forget the costumes … This ain’t your standard drums, guitar, bass and vocals line-up.

What are your plans for your album?
RD: I am currently writing songs for the new CD, some of which we are already playing in our live set. The CD, called Emotional Whiplash will have a total of 10 to 12 tracks, and I hope to release it summer 2019. - New Mexico Entertainment Magazine

Bio

Albuquerque’s BLAME IT ON REBEKKAH, will pleasantly knock you around with infectious dance beats, unforgettable melodies and endearing, yet sometimes ridiculous, lyrics. Exploring the musical territory of “dance-pop,” and loaded with heavy doses of hip-hop synthesizers and percussion loops, their sound marries the power ballad with the beat, perky pop with funky groove, and lusty rhythm with bubbly harmonies … always, a good time is had.Writing and Lead Vocals: Rebekkah Dreskin
