"SugarHouse Casino Welcomes 'Rocky Mountain High Experience, A Tribute to John Denver Featuring Rick Schuler'"

Singer-songwriter Rick Schuler ushers in the sounds of the '70s with his "Rocky Mountain High Experience, A Tribute to John Denver" at the SugarHouse Casino Event Center on Saturday, August 26 at 8 p.m. Schuler's uncanny resemblance, vocals and stage persona have made him the leading performer of John Denver's music. Tickets for his performance go on sale Friday, June 9 and cost $25.

Schuler's show offers audiences the most authentic John Denver concert experience by incorporating the country legend's greatest hits with two of Denver's musicians included in the band: longtime drummer, Richie Garcia and vocalist, Mollie Weaver. Schuler has shared his Rocky Mountain High Experience with thousands of Denver fans and features renditions of hit songs including "Thank God I'm a Country Boy," "Take Me Home, Country Roads," "Sunshine on My Shoulders" and more.

Given Denver's impact on the music industry, the Rocky Mountain High Experience is an exceptional tribute show, depicting a legendary music career that spanned four decades. Fans will reminisce on the Americana-folksy sound and, in addition to Schuler's original Denver-inspired material, will enjoy renditions of "Annie's Song," "Back Home Again" and "Grandma's Feather Bed," which was written by Jim Connor, Denver's longtime banjo player.

"The legacy of John Denver comes to life in Rick Schuler's Rocky Mountain High Experience," said Wendy Hamilton, general manager of SugarHouse Casino. "Schuler's performance captures the essence of the music icon in both his sound and stage presence - it's an outstanding show for Denver fans."

Schuler came into prominence at the age of 16 with his first public performance of "Rocky Mountain High," which was received with a standing ovation. His musical talent and public appeal subsequently led to television and radio appearances including a feature on The Jack Carney Show, as "the John Denver guy." With his "Rocky Mountain High Experience," Schuler has created a show that features fan favorites with some of Schuler's own Denver-esque compositions. - Broadway World

"National touring theater shows coming to Charleston"

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Theater fans in the Charleston area are in for a treat in the coming months.

The Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center (CCCC) has announced a “Theater Series” in the Convention Center Theater with three separate national touring shows.

“An Evening with C.S. Lewis starring David Payne” will take place on September 25, “A Rocky Mountain High Experience A John Denver Christmas starring Rick Schuler,” on December 18, and the Off-Broadway hit comedy “Men Are From Mars – Women Are From Venus LIVE!,” will be on January 28.

Patrick Leahy, the General Manager of the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center told 580-WCHS that this is part of his administration’s goal, of bringing more diverse programming to Charleston.

“Activate each of the venues and then bring a broad-based of programming to the market. So then anyone in the market can find something over the course of a year that they would find of interest,” he said.

A release from the CCCC said the Payne show takes place in 1963 and C.S. Lewis, the famous British author, is hosting a group of American writers at his home near Oxford. The show recalls the life of Lewis, his thoughts and what shaped his life that included of his friendship with J.R.R. Tolkien and why he nearly abandoned the Narnia Chronicles.

The life of John Denver, performer of “Take Me Home County Roads,” will take to the stage in December. The release from CCCC said Schuler is “America’s Top John Denver Tribute.” He does a holiday show that features the hits of “Rocky Mountain High,” “Sunshine On My Shoulders,” “Take Me Home County Roads,” “Leaving On A Jet Plane,” “Annie’s Song,” and “Thank God I’m a County Boy.”

“It takes you from the 70s where he was on the radio constantly and through his holiday world. Of course, in this part of the world “Take Me Home Country Roads” is an anthem,” Leahy said.

Leahy said that the off-broadway hit comedy “Men Are From Mars – Women Are From Venus LIVE!,” makes for a relaxed night in January. It’s a theatrical comedy based on the New York Times #1 best-selling book of the last decade by John Gray.

“It’s fast-paced, it’s funny and gets people laughing. it’s a light-hearted theater program,” Leahy said.

Tickets for all three shows go on sale July 15 at 10 a.m. at ticketmaster.com or at the Coliseum Ticket Office. - WCHS News Network

It was undeniable, he looked like John Denver, an artist he’d never heard of until that moment. It was during an era when the music of John Denver permeated the airwaves with sweetness and sunshine, a salve to the wounded and weary soldiers returning home unloved from an unpopular war. “John Denver was the biggest star in the world, and I didn’t have any idea who he was,” says Schuler, who quickly discovered that Denver was the guy on the radio whose music he loved. “I was a very shy kid, and John and I kind of became bonded. I taught myself to play guitar and it grew from there.”

Nearly four decades later, Schuler has emerged as the leading performer of John Denver’s music. His ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH EXPERIENCE® is just that, a true, intimate experience.
