Bio

Equanda Q. Franklin aka “Salome” is a Georgia peach born on a military base and homegrown in Tallahassee, Florida who fell in love with “GOOD MUSIC” at the age of 4. As a shy little girl she would sit on her grandfathers box of old records and sing to the sultry sounds of Aretha Franklin, The Commodores and
other influential gospel and old school artists. Though she was raised by her grandparents her biological mother (Joyce with the Voice) was also a great musical influence which allowed her to break out of her stage fright at age 13 after joining St. John Primitive Baptist church in Wakulla County. In that old
country church she led the same gospel song she remembered her mother singing, “I Need You to Hold My Hand”, by Frank Williams of The Mississippi Mass Choir. After a shocking revelation of her talent she began writing her own music and developed a creative passion for poetry. After performing at many family functions, church events, school talent shows and winning numerous poetry contests Flo realized at young age that she was lyrically anointed. In 2006, a virgin to open mic night she hit the stage as “Queen Femi” and introduced her first spoken word piece “Hole in my Pocket” greatly influenced by her poetic mentor Alabama Black. In 2007, she linked up with Stevie Bee at The Gospel Café in Tallahassee where she was performing “I Am Saved”. From that moment Stevie Bee enlightened her lyrical approach thus giving her the name “FLO” allowed her the creative room to collaborate on tracks like “I Need to be
Fed”, “The Morning After” and encouraged/recorded her ability on spoken word piece “Run Tell That”. Now along with her management and P-Squad family she continues to create higher ground breaking levels of diversity within her lyrical platform. Inclined to listening to many genres of music her lyrics have a depth of country living that depict strong black roots of today’s analog women and men who prefer a simpler approach to the systems way of thinking. Her metaphorical messages speak wisdom to the minds seeking freedom for their thoughts to run wild and tell the stories of her journey to nurture and create a relationship with ones expressive belief. Flo resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she’s on a continual pursuit to musical success while performing as well as writing music and poetry for her upcoming album “Can’t Label the Light”.
