"Rising Stars: Meet Scattered Light"

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scattered Light.

Hello Scattered Light, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
The best way for me to put how Scattered Light started is by saying that, you read these stories about people who have reached their end, and then they hear this song that touches a nerve, changes their lives, and makes them want to become something more. That happened to me, and essentially, I want to pay it forward and hope to do the same for someone else.

During Covid, Asher and I met the day before Christmas 2020 through a posting on a website and he auditioned. I knew from that first meeting that he was going to be a perfect fit. Ethan actually joined up in the fall of 2022 to replace our long-time bassist who decided to move to another state. He actually brought someone in as he thought it was a jam session, so that didn’t quite work out, but Ethan was just an incredible musician. -Matthew Pashalian

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Covid actually did a total reset for the band, and then just as we started to book shows last year, our longtime bass player just kind of moved out of state. Other than that, though, it’s been nice. The biggest challenge has been rebuilding a new following, post-Covid.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Matthew Pashalian – I’m a Middle School Teacher. Originally, I worked in publishing for 10 years as well as the booking and production side of the entertainment industry.

Asher Fidel – Music performance major biased to jazz. I would say feeling confident in anything and being easy to work with, picking things up quickly.

Ethan Sanchez – Music performance major biased to classical music. I would say completing an album due to the labor and hard work. self-awareness.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Matthew Pashalian – Learn from your mistakes and always listen to others who have been doing this long because odds are that their advice is most likely rooted in their own mistakes as well.
Asher Fidel – Ditch the ego and serve the song.
Ethan Sanchez – Not want to be a maximalist. - Voyage MIA

Bio

With sincere, intelligent lyrics addressing the challenges and victories associated with everyday life, Scattered Light stands as one of the more visceral hard rock bands to emerge from the South Florida music scene. Since their emergence in 2015, the power trio has established themselves as one of the area’s most promising acts, blending heavy guitar and bass with in-the-pocket drums and melodic vocals.

While many bands seek to establish a deep connection with their audience through providing music that can be influential on listeners, Scattered Light effortlessly accomplishes this. Their ability to craft melodic numbers capturing bare emotion and intrinsic perspective can be credited to the talents of lead songwriter, vocalist and guitarist, Matthew Pashalian. His passion for the human condition is on full display with the track, “A Way to Live,” which addresses the psychological damage a friend experienced after enduring a significant loss.

“You read these stories about people who have reached their end, and then they hear this song that touches a nerve, changes their life and makes them want to become something more, ”says Pashalian. “That happened to me, now I want to pay it forward and hope to do the same for someone else.”

Bassist Julian Rauh and drummer Asher Fidel comprise the band’s dynamic rhythm section, creating a thriving and voluptuous sound that uniquely complements Pashalian’s driving guitar work behind such songs as “Try,” “Echoes,” and “Burn.” Audiences’ positive response to the band’s current release, “Bleak,” helped yield a follow-up that hones the band’s sound and direction. While the line-up and influences have evolved since its inception, the music is consistently described as a mix of Alice in Chains, Chevelle, and Smashing Pumpkins.

The band is currently promoting their new live offering, “Alive in the Gardens,” showcasing some of their best work in an in-your-face manner. The band continues to perform shows to connect with a burgeoning fan base throughout its home base of Florida while recording their follow-up disc, ‘Lovers,’ to be released in early summer with its first single arriving in April.
