"Scott Brockett to release new ablum "This Town""

Portland musician Scott Brockett, the first place winner of the Jefferson County Fair Talent Show, and Oregon State Fair Talent Show, both in 2002, will be hosting a CD release concert on Jan. 18, at the Sound Garden Studio in Bend.

Brockett is the son of Madras residents Cindy and Gale Brockett, and is a 2000 graduate of Crook County High School.

Those attending the concert will be greeted with a wonderful blend of soul, pop, and blues with Brockett's masterful vocals being the signature ingredient for the night. Brockett has a quality to his music that anyone from 10 to 70 can appreciate.

The show will be at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.), and the cost is $10, which includes a copy of the new album "This Town." The Sound Garden Studio is located at 1279 N.E. Second St., Bend.

Brockett's reasons for holding the concert in Central Oregon are because some of his fans are here.

His parents moved to Madras a few years ago and Brockett calls Madras home whenever he visits. He's even become a fan of a few things that Madras has to offer.

"Everytime I am here, I make a point to stop at the Eagle Bakery and get a pack of cinnamon rolls and some biscuits and gravy if I happen to make it there on a Saturday," he said.

Hailing from Portland, Brockett is not your ordinary pop rocker. His music has been featured on over 60 radio stations across the country.

He has been included on the Taste of Triple A radio sampler, he won the Portland Idol competition in 2010, and was a top 10 finalist for the Seattle America's Got Talent.

That is all just the beginning. After leaving a mark on the Northwest music scene with his former group Holding Out, Brockett is now well into his solo career and crafting tunes that manage to combine the emotional impact of soul with the grit and energy of pop-rock.

Armed with a powerful voice, an electric guitar and an extraordinary backing band, Brockett dives deeper into the journey he started with 2011's "Never Give Up," having constantly brought his music to the stage while at the same time gearing up for the release of his upcoming EP, "This Town," which ups the ante in just about every way conceivable.

"This Town" is a bridge between great musicianship and easy listening. It blends classic sounds such as blues, soul, and rock with the vitality and infectious hooks of pop. - Madras Pioneer

"Wired Oregon Review of "Never Give Up" EP by Scott Brockett"

Scott Brockett: Never Give Up EP
Release Date: July 22, 2011
Genre: Blues/Rock

If you’re looking for music that is original and feel-good then the soon-to-be-released “Never Give Up” EP from Portland’s Scott Brockett would be a good choice.

Brockett was featured on Wired Oregon (http://wiredoregon.com/scott-brockett/) back in February with his plan to record and tour behind this new set of music. The plan changed slightly between then and now, but the most important element, the music, is here and ready for ears of listeners far and wide.

The “Never Give Up” EP is a set of four finely-crafted and well produced songs that any musician would be proud of.

The first song is also its title track, “Never Give Up.” It’s a hopeful tune about just that, not giving up. It’s a relatable song because it is both a call not to give up on what is important as well as Brockett’s own dedication to his own passions. Lyrically, the song is beautiful enough on its own, but musically it soars to heights beyond even that. It has a bit of a gospel feel and has one of those choruses that is extremely hard not to sing along to. Featured here (and throughout the rest of the songs) are the vocal talents of Portland’s own The Brown Sisters (www.brownsistersmusic.com).

The second track is called “Let Our Love Show” and is a poppy balladesque tune about, you guessed it, love. It is the soundtrack to a perfect summer day with the one you love most in life.

The third track is called “I Love the Way We Love.” This is the most upbeat song on the EP and features a pretty straightforward driving beat coupled with a bluesy guitar part. It actually feels a tad country at points which is just another example of how this EP brings many different elements to the table for an overall eclectic feel.

The EP’s closing song is called “Till the Morning Comes.” It touches on a personal subject for Scott as the subject is the relationship of his grandparents and ultimately the death of his grandfather. It is an emotional song with meaningful lyrics, vocals, and instrumentation throughout.

If there is one common theme to this EP, and that is one of love; both the love we show to each other and the love shown to us and how it can get us through the toughest of times. If it wasn’t previously clear then it is hard to miss when hearing the EP’s closing line, “Love will make it all right.”

Overall, this set of songs will appeal to audiences far and wide but will be especially enjoyable to fans of John Mayer, Marc Broussard, Rob Thomas, or Jonny Lang. It is a soulful ode to two of Brockett’s biggest loves in life: singing and playing guitar. He does both well and this EP is proof that he can play with the best of them. It will be exciting to see the opportunities that it brings his way and what kind of music he will continue to make in the future.

For This Town, Scott again teamed up with Cory Knowland Studios in Salem, Oregon to record the five songs that make up the release.

This Town is truly a bridge between great musicianship and easy listening. It blends classic sounds such as blues, soul, and rock with the vitality and infectious hooks of pop. It takes both the personal and musical elements he explored on Never Give Up and truly pushes them to the next level.

Let the music do the talking and listen for yourself!
