Bio

Virginia Beach's Seamonster began in early 2005 with a self-titled demo tape. Live performances are ever-changing, as the band's rotating lineup can swell from Webb alone up to a dozen players at the drop of a hat. Continually striving to push beyond the limitations of toy keyboards, unstrung guitars, and broken down analog equipment, Seamonster's songs have a lovingly hand-made feel - but they also conjure a universe between the headphones.

Over the years and through numerous releases, Seamonster has continued to criss-cross North America, sharing the stage with the likes of
Jens Lekman, Nat Baldwin (Dirty Projectors), Mt Eerie, Ra Ra Riot, Matt Pond PA, No Age, The Low Anthem, Kishi Bashi, Sarah Jaffe, Astronautalis, Bill Belzer (Uncle Tupelo), Natalie Prass, and Black Swan Network (various members of the Elephant 6 Collective)

With the release of "Baldessari," Seamonster reaches for new heights - weaving a tapestry of seemingly unrelated sounds into a cohesive group of songs centered on the creation of art (aptly named after John Baldessari - whose creative appropriation of discarded material served as a direct inspiration to the recording of the album.) In addition to myriad references to specific works of art scattered across Baldessari's eleven tracks, Webb also used a freeware program called AudioPaint to convert images of those paintings into sounds which were then incorporated into the compositions. Like the album's namesake, Seamonster has succeeded in creating something new and exciting out of the old and familiar.
