"Sean V Syndicate "Higher Calling""

Sean V Syndicate delivers a truly stunning ode to classic rock on “Higher Calling”. Over the course of the album Sean V Syndicate shows off an uncanny knack to develop satisfying guitar riffs that are infinitely catchy. Nicely accompanying this is the undeniably strong rhythm section which makes sure to truly drive the songs forward. Encompassing elements of the best of classic rock, funk, with a strong dose of the blues, Sean V Syndicate recalls an earlier period of rock one where it truly had a sense of soul. Lyrically Sean V Syndicate explores the inner workings of people’s motivations throughout the album.

Things start out strong with the organ-led glory of “Head Case”. With an inviting groove is the earnest, down-home country inflected work of “Beast of Burden”. The absolute essentials define bluesy work of “Reap What You Sow”. Easily the highlight of the album Sean V Syndicate creates a vast vivid soundscape throughout the song with easygoing, comforting guitar work. Sung straight from the heart is the passionate performance of “Don’t Need a Reason to Cry”. Infectious to its core is the anthem of “Mr. Bright Eyes” with nimble acoustic guitar punctuating the song’s soulful message. Distortion lead and downright muscular in nature is the rush of “Internet Mole”. Bringing the album to a joyous conclusion is the introspective work of “Higher Calling”.
“Higher Calling” shows off Sean V Syndicate’s impressive chops creating a vast rich album, one that is full of surprising twists and turns.

"Sean V Syndicate "Head Case""

The cool is back! Take time out to appreciate the brilliantly inspiring song by Sean V Syndicate titled “Head Case”, also supported by a visually intriguing, insightful and creative music video which is both impressive and haunting at the same time!
Slick, soulful guitars and chilled drum sounds open up this best kept secret release, but the real star of this track is Sean Virag, the singer songwriter responsible for the revealing lyrics and the smooth voice behind “Head Case”. It’s important not to take any credit away from the band which is indeed so super talented, and in fact, serve the lead vocalist perfectly!
Sean V Syndicate is a force to be reckoned, with lyrics such as “Frozen mountains turn to water, and grapes they turn to wine / Helpless thoughts aren’t even mine but they’re in my head” – you just know this isn’t just someone who likes the sound of their own voice and talks s***. No no no… if you think that then you couldn’t be further from the truth. “Head Case” has real pain and emotion behind it, the lyrics are haunting but full of wisdom, the arrangement is next level, the instrumentation is crispy clear and Sean’s voice is on point. Everything about Sean V Syndicate makes a lot of sense.
Should’ve probably got a lot more attention but for the artistry alone I give this 4.5* out of 5*

"Music Review "Higher Calling" by Sean V Syndicate"

“Higher Calling”
When that first chorus comes in…
With so much music out there, available to the world, you find that your taste grows narrower and narrower. Well, normally, my taste isn’t Americana Pop Rock! … But today Sean V Syndicate have changed that slightly.
Higher Calling is a story about waiting for something to come along and either show you the way forward or give you something to truly believe in (from what I can gather!) Throughout the lyrical content, there’s a gradual curve from initially not knowing which way to turn, to later on having some idea. That’s a nice technique, even nicer if it was deliberate!
That storyline can relate to each and every last person on the planet, which is fantastic for Sean Virag and the rest of the guys in Sean V Syndicate! It means that they know what it takes to connect with an audience. They know how to make the true connections, which can help in gaining superfans. You know, the types of fans who will go out and buy all your merch. Yeah, you want those!
Higher Calling starts off nicely, with a radio-friendly approach. Drums are well recorded and the mix is good for them. My speakers are slightly dodgy but the bass may be a little low in the levels (I could well be wrong!). The Americana-style guitar parts are very apparent, I like that!
Drums, Bass and a few broken chords from the guitar to open the song. All of this makes it a very satisfying collection of frequencies, especially when the next set of 4 bars brings in the old-school rotary organ effect too!
Then comes the best bit!
When that first chorus comes in, forget about it!…
It was actually the first chorus that won me over. Even though the intro and the first verse are really good. It’s the slightly heavier guitar tones that bring it home for me. SVS have managed to create some breathtaking guitar tones throughout this song but the heavier guitar in the chorus is my outright favourite.
I do have one set-back with Higher Calling though. It’s nothing major but I’ve never been a fan of simply using rhythmic changes as a bridge. I think I would have preferred it to have gone somewhere else for a middle 8th section.
With that being said, I did appreciate the guitar solo. You don’t get many of them anymore, so that was the saving grace for the bridge section in my eyes. All in all, a very good song from Sean V Syndicate. One they can be proud of.
(Question for Sean Virag: Is it just you or are there other members? I can’t seem to find any on your profiles. If you could answer here in the comments, that’d be sweet. Thanks man and great songs!)

Bio

SVS was formed in 2014 by guitarist/songwriter Sean Virag. SVS released their debut album "Higher Calling" in October 2016, which features vindictive rock songs Reap What You Sow and Don't Need a Reason to Cry as well as inspirational songs Sign From Above and Higher Calling. Long Islands very own Good Times Magazine says, “Stunning new album...soulful and multi-faceted disc...an original tour de force well worth seeking out.” Beach Sloth from Skope Magazine writes "Sean V Syndicate recalls an earlier period of rock one where it truly had a sense of soul." The songs reflect the trials and tribulations of everyday life, discontent, social conspiracy and political malaise. Add to this backdrop screaming rock guitars, Sean Virag's deeply personal lyrics along with catchy vocal melodies and you get the raw musical connection of SVS. With the help of veteran Long Island musicians Erik Friedman (bass/vocals/harmonica), Drew Bertrand (drums), Mike Katzman (organ/piano), Katie Pearlman (drums/vocals), Rorie Kelly (vocals) Jeff Pearlman (organ), Don Torillo (alto/tenor saxophone), SVS has recorded a considerable collection of haunting, yet uplifting, music that is instantly recognizable.
