"Featured Artist: Sh'Bang -- Interview and Review of 'The Sex Files'"

Powerful, passionate, playful, poignant pop punk that has serves a poet-philosopher profound punch atop juddering dance along rhythm.

‘Sex Files‘ is the perfect marriage of two songs from the band’s catalogue that both dive deep into the filthy skid marked discarded underpants of sex that isn’t sexy.

Both tracks have a distinctive raw roaring ferocity that prickles in both the open vein honesty of the lyricism and riotous joy from the instrumentation.

It is painfully relatable to all but the lucky few who were blessed with genuine human beings instead of animals in there first enforced shared living situation.

It has elements of folk, indie rock, emo, and punk all mixed together into a beautiful witches brew of influence and inspiration.

The instrumentation is on a steady evolution and progression that builds and builds into the cathartic release of the freakout choruses.

The drums are a particular delight, with furious fills that flutter and flex like butterfly wings stitching together the frenetic and furious frenzy of the track.

If ‘Makeup Sex‘ was the pregame then ‘Stop Getting Naked (In Front Of My Mom)‘ is the end of the night finale. Is explosively energetic and charged with a boisterous bounce that is as infectious as it is infinitely engaging.

Lyrically it’s a witty and humourous account that has that playful punk cheek but with a rock solid message and depth when out into context.

The entire band goes into a complete feeding frenzy on this one, tearing into riffs, solos, and shredded vocals that establish the live wire energy they clearly brig to the stage.

This is a unique sound that is tender but tough, it is harder than rock, and more powerful than punk, but at its core is a lyrical and poetic honesty that is incredibly rare.

‘Makeup Sex‘ is the pre-drinking party, only a little tipsy, it is still a fair bit morose, recalling a particularly dark period of time living with people that really didn’t care about our protagonist at all. - Yack! Magazine

"Sh'Bang: The Sex Files"

The four piece, no frontman, classic staple of what it means to be a band. Combining four wildly different sounds, tastes, and personalities and crafting them into something both new and familiar. This band calls on punk, metal, indie, psychedelic and christian rock, as well as other genre-explorative artists like Mac Miller. They are four years deep into a consistent practice schedule and have been itching to start putting it down.

Their latest release (November 29, 2021); “The Sex Files” EP is a sexy pair of songs that were put together for what we’d hope are obvious reasons. Starting with “Make-Up Sex” and ending with “Stop Getting Naked (In Front Of My Mom)” the listener experiences odd-ball trains-of-thought and comedic, but true, storytelling laid over a bed of snarling chords and powerful drums.

The goal was to put on record the closest possible sound to when the band is live. This is where Sh’Bang separates itself from the more individualized production commonly created today on a laptop (think Dominic Fike). What you’re hearing is what you’ll get if you come to a show.

Noah once told me: “For Alex and I, if it weren’t for Arctic Monkeys, Modern Baseball, and The Front Bottoms being a thing, it would have been hard to see ourselves making music. None of this would be happening at all.”

Traveling far distances for a basement pipe-dream.

"Emancipate Yourselves With Sh'Bang's Alt-Rock Hit, "Bail Money""

Philadelphian alt-rock 4-piece Sh’Bang defines themselves as sweeter than punk and heavier than rock, based on their single, Bail Money, taken from their 2020 EP, The Woman Who Changed the World, we affably agree.

Any fans of Neutral Milk Hotel, AJJ, Harley Poe and Amigo the Devil will get caught up in the soulfully eccentric eminence of the single that carries the energy of punk paired with their pretence-less passion that makes no bones about utilising abrasively honest expression.

If you turn to artists such as Social Distortion for your serotonin, you won’t know what has hit you when you hit play on Bail Money. The volatile single delivers the efficacious reminder that eternal conflict is perpetual in many minds; your angst doesn’t alienate you; it offers commonality. - A&R Factory

"First/Last | Sh'Bang"

The first album you ever bought?
I remember stealing a lot of my dad’s CDs but I think the first album I bought with my own money was Pure Guava by Ween.

Your last album bought?
LW by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard on vinyl.

Favorite album of all time?
The Mollusk by Ween. Ween is pretty dang cool to have made the album that inspired SpongeBob.

Least favorite/most disappointing album?
Neighborhoods by Blink-182. It took a while to grow on me but 13 year old me was just kinda pissed that’s what they put out after their hiatus.

First concert attended?
The Rush ‘Snakes and Arrows’ tour in 2008. I just started playing drums around then so getting to see Neil Peart play was the coolest thing ever.

Last concert?
There was a couple bands but the one I went to see was called Jerry, At the Beach. Went solely because of the name.

Favorite concert ever?
July 3rd, 2021 we played in someone’s backyard while it was raining. First show since lockdown and it was awesome.

Least favorite concert?
Crown the Empire. It was kind of a letdown cause the one guy left the band and everyone who was playing looked like they were on mad drugs, but I’m not really sure if they were to be honest.

Favorite thoughts, experiences about Pittsburgh?
One behalf of our manager, Pittsburgh might be America’s best kept secret. Views of the water and the culture are what makes him happy there. We have yet to come to the city, but we’re definitely looking forward to playing shows there.

Thanks, Noah. Yeah, buddy… make a trip to Pittsburgh. Might want to wait until all this Covid mess is behind us. Who knows what will be happening until then? - HughShows
