"Steve Cropper"

Shake Anderson, is a phenomenal bassist – kind of James Jamerson and Duck Dunn all in one.
- Vintage Guitar Magazine

"Shake Makes It Easy"

"Shake is one of those all around great musicians - a go to kind of guy. He's a leader and a support person. He can do anything you want. Plus, he has a great voice."
- - Victor Wooten

"Shake is the truth"

He currently lives in Texas and has toured and recorded with
national artists ranging from Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder to the
Impressions. But Sam "Shake" Anderson is a Louisville native and
local legend in both secular and spiritual circles.
Anderson has elevated many a band and rocked countless clubs with
impassioned playing and singing. So, Anderson brought out a lot of friends when he headlined WFPK's
July Waterfront Wednesday.
It was a little unusual seeing Anderson in the spotlight, but he quickly proved the move to front man is long overdue.
Andersons first solo album, "Stories From Sammy Louis",
provided lots of good stuff to present live. The c-d is a startling document.
By distilling down years of experience, Shake delivers strong songs and
great vocals along with what he calls "life lessons" to think about.
His large band, a mixture of a touring band, some local mates,
and a "choir" to the side, provided the foundation and Shake made the
album tunes come alive. As things heated up toward the end
, he took the audience to "church" leading an
emotional "service" that brought the audience down to the stage
to join a sweaty "revival".
Shake Anderson was sure to hold the attention of those who
already knew of his magnetic music and personality.
The crowd's cheers long after Shake left the stage had to be
a heartwarming welcome home to a guy who's heart is here even
if he's living elsewhere.
Shake's c-d is out and available and a "must have" if you like the
territory from r and b to rock. Shake can also be heard playing bass
on the new STAX Records collaboration between two rock and soul legends:
Felix Cavaliere of the Rascals and Memphis guitar genius Steve Cropper. It's
called "Nudge It Up A Notch". - D Irby Fox 41

"Pre review release commentary"

Not only have I listened, I have listened a LOT. I have played it my car, at 2 a.m., first thing in the morning and sitting here at my desk. I've spun it no less than 10 times. I usually don't comment on something before I've written about it, but; I OBVIOUSLY dig it a lot if I've spun it ten times.

Excellent . Deeply moving and solid!

"Stories from Sammy Louis"

Shake Anderson’s comforting, rootsy mix of soul, R&B and blues is somewhat reminiscent of John Hiatt’s most accessible and recognized work. Anderson makes the kind of music that, whether you fall in love with it or not, is simply impossible to hate. The mix of the warm instrumentation and the uplifting, affirming lyrics create a security blanket of song, and once you’re inside, it’s hard to find any reason to leave.
This is the kind of music that your dad listens to, and, when you’re not around your hip friends, you admit you have something of a soft spot for it, too. His time touring and recording with industry greats like Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder has served him well. Anderson’s Stories From Sammy Louis contains a smooth blend of R&B and gospel that makes a comfort stew that the whole family can enjoy. —Anthony Bowman - LEO magazine

"Review from Frank Schuckett"

"Chapter 1: We may never get outta here" startet mit einem Vokalscat bevor die Band in federndem Rhytmus den Song vorantreibt.
"Set it off" ein ruhig dahintreibender Hammondsound, ein feiner Schlagzeug- und Percussionrhytmus und darüber Shake's fordernde, eindringliche Stimme, die vom fetten Backgroundchor in Call und Response Manier intensiviert wird.
Mit rauer, gequälter Stimme rät er seiner Liebe, dass sie gefälligst das Weite suchen solle. "You said you love me and you promised to be true", sie verursacht lediglich Tränen und Schmerzen in "Don't you come 'round here no mo".
Mit fließenden Pianofiguren und geschmackvoll eingeworfenen Hammondlicks reduziert Anderson mit "Chapter 4: Tumblin' down" die Geschwindigkeit. "If you build your house of mud and stone it may last forever, but without love inside, that house ain't a home nothing will hold it together".

In R&B Manier groovt "Sold me down the river" auf intensivem breitem Klangteppich. Die 60er zitierend jedoch im Sound von Heute.

Karibisch inspiriert mit Slap-Bass und vertracktem Rhythmus präsentiert sich "And it cuts me" im Funkysound. Gospelinspiriert bezaubert "Only game in town". Auf tanzenden Pianoperlen und sehnsuchtsvollem Cello fasziniert "When it comes to love".

"5 Stars +"

Absolutely remarkable! Wow... Shake Anderson and company have dropped some seriously cool vibes on us and we've already gone through all their tracks like 3 times at least.

Shake has an absolutely mellow vocal vibe that simply pulls you into an intense state of musical arousal that can't be denied. Cooler than ice baby!

Packed with an astonishing array of musical talent including: Shake Anderson, J.D. Blair, Reggi Wooten, Darrell Tibbs, Courtney Campbell, Charles Ross, Joel Goodwin, Mark Hamilton, Mauriece Hamilton, Ben"Black" Bush, Raymond "3" Noah, Karen Anderson and Admiral Blaney, Shake has place himself in an enviable position of working with some of the worlds finest musicians.

We don't hand out many 5's for our music reviews but Shake Anderson is probably up in the 10+ range. Of course having some of his bands accomplishments include work with the likes of Shania Twain, Yoyo Ma, Donna Summer and Victor Wooten to add to his own works with BB King, Aretha Franklin, Curtis Mayfield and Aliyah to name but a few it's no surprise that Shake Anderson is shaking up some things 'round the Catsask camp.

We feel absolutely honored and blessed to have been offered the opportunity to listen to, let alone review, music as finely written and produced as that provided by Shake Anderson and Company.

Shake, whose real name is Sammy Louis Anderson, learned the most about life when an illness stopped him in his tracks. He was told he would never perform again and had several months to live. Life as he had known it was over. While spending more than nine months in the hospital and being told he was dying he learned who he really was—not Shake as the world called him—but Sammy Louis as his doctor's referred to him. This crisis in his life taught him what was really important. Shake overcame all the odds and rebuilt his life. These songs—chapters—are stories about making mistakes, learning lessons and rebirth. Shake says about Stories from Sammy Louis—“once you've been to the edge the middle don't matter."

We couldn't agree more... Have no fear Shake, you are definitely far from the middle and we appreciate the beauty in the music you've given to the world. Those of you who love great music in it's finest form be sure to cop this Cats album. You will NOT be disappointed. - Catsask.com

"Perfect and Catchy"

Prepare to be soothed in a very real way. Shake Anderson walks you through 11 tracks of mellow, pop songs, executed precisely, and with real swagger.

Standouts include, Set it Off; it draws a picture in your mind as its being performed. Its a vivid soundscape that will set you in a good mood. Tumblin' Down, a soulish singer/songwriter tune complete with rhodes pianos and gospel choir. Sold Me Down the River is a more upbeat song straight out of Motown. I swear I could sing the chorus on first listen - it was just that catchy and perfect.

Stories from Sammy Louis has a lot of love in it and a lot of accute care. Each instrument seems delicately placed, never overstepping its role. The record works and its a real joyful ride.

"Shake Anderson is a champ"

If you’re ready for some classic mid-western R&B and Soul, then check out Sam “Shake” Anderson’s Stories From Sammie Lewis. Marching to a beat somewhere between Marvin Gaye and Al Green, Sam “Shake” Anderson lays down twelve classic sounding tracks on the CD The cover of Set It Off is sublime, and Anderson will lull you into reverie with songs like Don’t Come Roun’ Here No Mo’, Sold Me Down The River and The Only Game In Town. Anderson possesses a sugar-smooth voice, but finds the Rock N Soul sound when called for. Be sure to check out Shine On, That Won’t Mean and We May Never Get Out Of Here, but there really isn’t a weak track on the disc.

Sam “Shake” Anderson plays and sings like he built the old school. There are a lot of pretenders out there, but Stories From Sammy Louis proves that Sam “Shake” Anderson is a champ.
