"CD Review: Steve Robinson & The Foundation"

Steve Robinson & The Foundation's Hello From the Up-Down Room is everything a CD should be - original, sincere, and both lyrically and melodically sound.

It avoids the two biggest traps that obscure most albums into mediocrity - the songs do not all sound like each other, nor do they sound like anyone else. In trying to figure out who to compare SRTF's sound to, my efforts were constantly frustrated, and I was forced into the conclusion that Steve Robinson sounds like Steve Robinson - that simple.

The album defies fitting neatly into any one genre; it is both soulful with a taste of rock and profoundly well-written - no songs about bad breakups or superficial angst here. Every song is genuine and thoughtful, and executed flawlessly. Song by song, it is apparent that the intent was to make music - good music - and to that end, SRTF has succeeded. The concept of "filler" is clearly a dirty word here; every single track is purposeful and one piece of the overall puzzle that becomes Steve Robinson & The Foundation.

Hello From the Up-Down Room provides a peek into the brilliance of SRTF and promises to be just a hint of the potential of what's to come. Albums this solid are few and far between, but Steve Robinson & The Foundation manages to take their place in the ranks of Great Music.

- Kelly Leaman - Des Moine Music Cooalition

"Steve Robinson and the Foundation"

The songwriting is great. The hooks are pretty good! The physical punch of the music, how it hits my ears, and the energy of the songwriting itself sounds like a really strong rock album. - Scott Kubie - Rock Iowa. com

Steve Robinson and The Foundation – SRTF

Steve Robinson and The Foundation indulges their ever-increasing following with a no-holds-barred blend of rock, blues, soul and experimental sounds, that create a musical experience that is appealing to listeners from all walks of life. Descriptions of SRTF’s music have been as diverse as the music itself. It has been described as everything from sonic-pop, to classical rock and roll; melodic and hard driving, to simply “summertime”.

Originally established in 2001, SRTF recorded and toured with a fair amount of success and some line-up changes until Steve took some time off between 2003 and 2005. During this time Steve was privileged to work with a Rick Rubin produced project named ‘To My Surprise’, which after being released culminated with them touring and a SXSW berth in 2006, until the bands untimely demise.

Returning home, Steve decided to restore his musical vision of SRTF and put together the newest version of Steve Robinson and The Foundation. After months of recording and cataloging new songs, SRTF toured shortly before heading back into the studio to record the third SRTF independent release, ‘Hello from the Up-Down Room’. This release features songs that are so powerful and musically diverse it has the band touring more and has gained SRTF increased record sales, college and commercial radio support and gaining more friends and fans on a daily basis.

2009 and the future promises to be even more eventful for SRTF with a full catalog of music and a wider awareness of the musical diversity of ‘Hello from the Up-Down Room’, requiring SRTF to gear up and prepare for a full year of touring in addition to recording more music for future release.

With the always energetic and sincerely charismatic entity that is SRTF, live or recorded; nobody walks away disappointed. Only captivated and wanting more.

This is Steve Robinson and The Foundation - SRTF.
