Bio

The story of Subject to Fits begins with drummer Dan Tomczyk. Dan, inspired by iconic bands like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, began playing when he was only 12. After receiving more formal training in college Dan help create the mid-90’s grunge band The Reejers. The Reejers had some success touring nationally and supporting an eclectic array of acts like Neil Young, The Smashing Pumpkins, White Zombie, the Dave Matthews Band, Jeff Buckley, Blind Melon, 311, the Samples, and Veruca Salt. While on the road, Dan enlisted the tech help of his friend Abe Voegtle.
Abe and Dan have been great friends since middle school; both having grown up in Chicago! Abe began playing guitar at the age of 16 (drawing his influence from prolific artists like Bob Mould, Rush, and the Police) and also studied sound recording at Full Sail Academy. After moving to Seattle and getting settled, Abe has been playing music locally trying to get a band off the ground. Since 2008 he’s played with a few different arrangements; most notably in King Boss local to the area north of Seattle.
Eventually, King Boss would be in need of a replacement drummer and chose to bring in a friend, Brad Cline. Brad brought 25 years of experience as a multi-instrumentalist and had quite a resume, having toured nationally and played with many local acts to the Seattle area as Hangfire Disaster and Headache Jackson. Abe and Brad had crossed paths before but this was their first time playing together and they felt a strong connection! After King Boss disbanded the two would continue to play and write together when who should move to town but Abe’s old friend Dan. They chose to bring Dan in as the permanent drummer so that Brad could focus on bass guitar, his prefered instrument.
After jamming and writing some instrumentals the trio found vocalist Preston Black through an online community. Preston, a recent transplant from Rhode Island, boasts 15 years of stage experience in rock and in musical theater. He is a classically trained singer with a passion for composition and high-energy music. As a teenager he began playing in bars in the cover band 5th Element and then moved to create the original hard rock band Decorus Mens, both of which played in around Rhode Island. Later, he spent two years performing in the pop-punk band Velvet Goldmine in Los Angeles.
The line-up complete (for now) the group is excited to bring their sound to the Seattle area and beyond. With emphasis on eclectic rock themes and thoughtful lyrics they present a meaningful set of music… and an off-beat sense of humor. It’s a good thing Dan has a Ph.D. in clinical psychology to keep everyone’s head on straight.
