Suburban Myth

During my younger years, whenever an act played a gig in my hometown I was there. On one Saturday night I went to see Seether (known as Saron Gas at the time). I enjoyed the show on the night (the black eye I got in the ‘pit’ was pretty cool too) but I knew I was no Seether fan. It was a night out of my parent’s house.

Suburban Myth’s brand of rock (billed as alternative rock) is exactly what sells. With sing-a-long melodies, conventional structures and a radio friendly quality (apart from one implicit “fuck”), there’s little to stop this band becoming a household name in time to come.

One hurdle that does stand in their way of possible success is the reality that the main band members reside on far-flung continents, but they’re working hard to overcome this logistical inconvenience.

Heavily influenced by those who have profited from the Goo Goo Dolls, Seether and Matchbox 20 sound (namely Goo Goo Dolls, Seether and Matchbox 20), their music is marketable, and with physical prints and international distribution, the band are making small, concerted steps in the right direction.

Derek Daisey of Suburban Myth

Vocalist Derek Daisey makes no bones about his affinity for writing pop, and that’s exactly what they need to voice if they want to reach Transatlantic success.

Personally, however, the EP is a story with very little conflict. Pop will hopefully prove to be their bread and butter, but if rock music is a spectator sport then Suburban Myth’s Plastic Souls is a goalless draw; a day out of the house, but nothing to write home about.

With a splash of Matchbox 20, and a hint of Biffy Clyro, Suburban Myth are simply lush. Their second single ‘Cool Cat In The Glass’ is set for release on the 15th of July, already gaining airplay from BBC Introducing.

They are the kind of band you’ll be lucky enough to see up close and personal in a small venue, as a growing name… Until they hit the mega bucks, and they’ll be headlining festivals before you know it.
