"Reading Hip-Hop Artist T.O.P. Aims To Turn Negative Situations Into Positive Ones"

It takes listening to just one song by T.O.P. to understand who the hip-hop artist is, not only as a performer, but as a man who has triumphed over many obstacles to become college educated, a dedicated father, an entrepreneur and a business owner.

His first single, "Been There," is featured on his new mixtape, "Let's Give 'Em an Album." In the song, you learn a lot about T.O.P. (an acronym for Triumph Over Poverty), whose given name is Demetrius Profic.

Most importantly, you learn that he's "been there," in a place where he wasn't sure which way to turn or what his purpose was. You learn that he is on a mission to turn negative situations in his life into positive ones, and that he is patiently waiting to see his younger brother Marqus Profic, who he believes was wrongfully convicted of third-degree murder, released from prison.

While there were many things in T.O.P.'s life that weren't always consistent, music is one thing that has remained. - Reading Eagle Newspaper
