Bio

“You can’t fake the blues.” With old influences and new passion, The Blues Professors channel their idols, filling their performances with intensity, spirit, love, and sorrow. Heath Mensher and Joe Mixon have been playing the blues since they were children. By day, Mensher is a Professor of Film and Literature at NCC, and Mixon is a Professor of Music at both LVC and Moravian College. By night, they are The Blues Professors, and they pride themselves on the authenticity of the blues music they create. The rapport between the two shines through as they groove through blues standards and take chances on every solo, whether it be harmonica or guitar.
Mensher hails from NYC, and has a background as an award-winning filmmaker and former MTV Staff Writer. Along with weekly gigs at Café Nola in Alphabet City in Manhattan, Heath has performed at many Blues Festivals throughout the North East. A blues harp player since the age of twelve, his voice has the rasp of a lifetime whiskey-drinker, and he seems to have a near-bottomless pit of sorrow and pain from which to draw upon.

**The Discovery Channel has licensed six of Heath‘s original blues tunes (with Benoir and The Suffering Blues Band). The show premieres Monday, May 12th. Listen for us!

Mixon is a true guitar chameleon. Along with appearing as the House Guitarist at The Sands Casino, Joe has performed at Musikfest, the Steel Stacks, May Fair, The Philadelphia Folk Festival, Hershey Park, and the Acorn Blues Festival. He is the Director of Guitar Studies at Lebanon Valley College.
You can hear a lifetime of musical influences in their original songs. You can hear real pain when they turn to traditional, gutbucket blues.
