San Francisco, June 3, 2019—San Francisco Bay Area guitarist, singer and songwriter Gregory Sutton will release Bordertown Conspiracy, a new record, on July 21st, 2019 across all major digital retail stores and streaming services including Apple Music, iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, Spotify and Pandora.

Bordertown Conspiracy takes on themes of wanderlust, nostalgia and hope, through classic blues/rock guitar riffs, driving drums and rollicking vintage keyboard stylings—from the Smithereens-influenced opening track “Believe” to the Allman Brothers-meets-CSN-style closer, “Rain Across the Desert.” Sutton’s self-professed “Soulful Rock & Roll” style and songwriting chops shine through on all seven songs, channeling the excitement of the vinyl era of rock and blues. “There’s some very new approaches on instrument layering in the songs, solos with a distinct point and vibe, and vocal harmonies and lyrics that evoke the feel of many timeless recordings of the past,” says Sutton. “I’m proud of the work of all the musicians and technical talent involved in this production and I’m looking forward to playing the songs live this summer.”

Recording started in spring 2018 at Blackbird Studios in Nashville, with Kevin Becka and the students of The Blackbird Academy in Studio A, on the famous Neve 8078 console formerly owned by Motown L.A. Studios and later by Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen. “It was a huge thrill to use this legendary mixer; you can hear the tonality and texture of many famous songs created on it showing through on these new tracks,” says Sutton. “There are definitely ghosts in the machine.” Additional performances were captured at The Press Recording Studio in Stockton, Calif. Famed mix engineer Stephen Hart mixed all of the Nashville-based tracks, with Matt Young, Diego Ayala and Gregory Sutton mixing additional songs recorded in California.

Guest musicians on Bordertown Conspiracy include Margo Price keyboardist Micah Hulscher, who performed on vintage Rhodes and Wurlitzer electric pianos and Hammond B3 in Nashville; along with contributions from members of Livermore, Calif.-based band Lunafish, including Bill Ziegler, Michael Fine, Chris Gattuso Fish and Don Bott.

Sutton is a longtime music industry professional who has written for numerous music publications including Mix, Electronic Musician, Live Design and Grammy.com. He has worked on marketing efforts for many top companies, studios and educational institutions in the business, and is a former member of the Recording Academy and current member of The Americana Music Association. - Glow Marketing
