1. Welcome to the Texas Hemp Reporter! Tell us how the band is doing…these days
Well hey Texas Hemp Reporter! We're big fans! It's a pleasure to be interviewed in one of Texas's first cannabis-centric publications. The band is on a creative kick these days! All three band members are contributing to the creative process from the songwriting perspective, and we're living on that high of pure rock adrenaline when we're stomping out that sweet 21st century rock 'n' roll. As Rod Gator says, Tom Petty didn't die, because Tom Petty's never gonna die.
2. I hear that you guys are recording...
Indeed! We gave it a go at a friend's studio when we were first getting some songs together last spring, but have found the chemistry we're looking for recording at our jam shack in Crestview, North Austin. There's something about being at home and throwing up some mic's that really helps translate our energy to recording. We've got a preview of our forthcoming EP live at thestoozies.com. Some final touches, a bit of mastering, and we'll be off to the streaming services before too long. Maybe THR can help us throw an EP release show?
3. How does it feel to be a part of a rocking band in Austin?
Rockers migrate from all over the country to be a part of the scene here in Austin. It's a springboard! We love the creative energy of this city, with so many legends who've shown the way. From Ringo Deathstarr to Stevie Ray Vaughan, the future of rock in Austin is bright, and we just want to add fuel to that flame.
4. Tell us about your infunces
We all have our own certain brand of rock and blues that we draw from. Taylor has a soft spot for The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Black Pumas, and Def Leppard. Zach is all over the place, listening to artists like Grupo Marca Registrada, Hank Williams, and Catch 22. Meanwhile Joshua maintains his roots listening to T-Bone Walker, Led Zeppelin, and Scott Weiland. We're all fans of D-Madness. Catch us live and you might hear us covering anyone from Bill Withers to The Toadies to Jewel.
5. Where and when is your next gig?
The Goat Roast! If y'all don't know about it then you should! It's the 26th annual goat roast held at Camp Ben McCullouch on March 22nd and 23rd. It's free to come for the day and the camping is cheap! It's going to be an all local lineup of bands playing rock, punk, and metal. Unplugged this year.
6. What can Austin Expect from the SXSW GIG?
We've got some new songs we'll be debuting for SXSW 2024! When we're not playing house shows, we'll be recording, kicking ass and chewing bubblegum.
7. What kind of guitars and amps
Josh plays a red hollow body guitar with a loud, shitty old amp that he stole from a junky. Zach rocks an Ampeg Portaflex 700 into a 4x12 custom cab with a Fender Precision Bass. Taylor plays a giant white Pearl Reference kit.
8 . What’s new in the pipeline for 2024?
We're gonna keep writing, jamming, and recording. Always. Right now, new songs are kind of falling in our laps and we want to keep that momentum going. It's part of what makes The Stoozies work--the music is all very organic and intuitive on all of our parts.
9. Favorite place for cold beers after practice?
The cold beers usually go down during practice--cold beers and warm Sailor Jerry's. Chased down with music-enhancing grass. We also dig hanging at Anderson Mill Pub and Barfly's. Either way, you can bet we're always down for a cold one (or twelve) after we've shredded our vocal cords!
10. Final Shout outs to the ATX
Oh, we gotta give a huge shoutout to the entire ATX music scene--y'all are the lifeblood that keeps this city thumpin'! Big love to all the incredible venues that give bands like us a stage to howl on--from the legendary Emo's and the Continental Club, to the dive-y goodness of Hole in the Wall and Hotel Vegas, and every spot in-between--and the sound engineers who make us sound halfway decent. And of course, a massive high-five to all the fans that come out to shows, buy merch, stream our tunes, and just generally keep the rock 'n' roll spirit alive. Without y'all we'd just be a bunch of Stoozies howling at the moon! Keep Austin weird and keep rockin'! Bio
Three men driven by a bottomless lusting for the perfect groove. A beat so locked that watchmakers gawk in envy. A rhythm so tasty that chefs begin to drool. A melody so mesmerizing that the gods themselves turn their heads to hear. These three were brought together by a series of serendipitous coincidences, some would claim they were gathered by Apollo himself.
Taylor would be the first to arrive at the sacred site which would later be the birthplace of The Stoozies. He would go on to jam with many musicians winning accolades like the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Until one day it would all come to a halt. His band of merry thieves had gone to the far corners of the world, leaving Taylor drumming alone.
Until one day, when two desert dwellers ventured into the supple hills of Texas. Zach and Josh were a motley crew unto themselves. Two snickering little jesters of fun and adventure. On their newest quest into the tight, fast-paced life of Austin, they stumbled into a drummer without anyone to help shape his groove. The three became a tight knit trio of riff ripping, vocal belting, feel good music.
One evening during a terrible storm, the Stoozie boys were in their ordained spots inside their Hyperbolic Jam Chamber. With a flash and a thunderous crack, they each entered a deep trance. What they saw was a vision of thousands of smiling faces as far as the eye could see with their instruments of mass connection vibrating in their hands. As the storm settled and the men came back to their wits, they gazed into each other's eyes. They knew what must be done and so it shall be.
Welcome to the Journey, let's make it one they'll never forget.
