"“TIDES OF TIME” BY SACRAMENTO BAND THE USUAL HAUNTS"

Consider for a moment that the members of Sacramento-based rock outfit The Usual Haunts are all just 19 and 20 years of age. Then, take into account that they have already released a flawlessly produced 15-track debut full-length album, Living Is Easy; toured the west coast twice in 2016 alone; were nominated for a SAMMIE award for Best Rock Band; and have even played on live television on Good Day Sacramento. Not bad for a group of guys that cannot yet legally hang out in a lot of the venues they find themselves occupying.

But then again, take one listen to Living Is Easy and none of the aforementioned accomplishments will come as a shock. These young men can really play. Better yet, they are naturals at crafting well-structured songs, utilizing warm tones and implementing a wise-beyond-their-years range of dynamics. What we’re getting at is this: The Usual Haunts are one of the most promising young rock bands to come out of the Sacramento area in years.

“The Usual Haunts have the swagger of The Doors and the soul of The Red Hot Chili Peppers,” states Jon Murray, founder of the Rocklin-based label Pool Swimmer Records, which T.U.H. are signed to. He goes on, “But they also have the incredible artistic freedom of the Grateful Dead and easy going vibe of Mac DeMarco. Give the album a listen and decide for yourself. Then think about what is being created in the music industry these days–especially by 19 and 20 year olds… The Usual Haunts are something from another world and thank God for that.”

We’ve teamed up the band and Pool Swimmer to debut their new video for one of our favorite tracks off the album, “Tides of Time.” The video was shot at the end of February, 2017, at Stinson Beach in Marin County and in the city of San Francisco. “Tides of Time” is a smooth little number and we hope you enjoy it along with the beautifully shot video.

The Usual Haunts are: Noirre (lead vocals/bass), CJ Caffrey (lead guitar/backing vocals), Dustin Soares (rhythm guitar/keyboards), and Noah Corbitt (drums). - Submerge Magazine

"Reviews roundup – Status Quo vs. Mairead Nesbitt vs. Neverfall vs. The Usual Haunts"

Indie rock time and we’re off to the American colonies to catch up with The Usual Haunts who hail from California.

We’ve actually encountered guitarist CJ Caffrey before in his solo guise of Natve and it turns out that vocalist Devon Murray also has a concurrent solo career under the name of Noirre. The whole band is still in the first flush of youth so it’s no surprise to hear that they fit firmly into the US college rock / indie idiom.

There is musical prowess on offer here and Murray has a strong voice. But I need a few more hooks to hang my hat on before I could claim myself as a convert to their cause. However I’m an old man so it’s not me that they’re trying to attract. But give a 20 year old indie fan a listen to “Palm God” or “Cherry” and I reckon they’ll find it a winner. - Zeitgeist / The Rocker

- SUBMERGE MAGAZINE // May 2017

After two U.S. West Coast tours in 2016 where they performed for thousands of fans, The Usual Haunts, are charting their way into 2017 with supernatural abandon fueled by their love to create music that entertains and elevates their audience and listeners. The Usual Haunts bring together an incredible blend of Indie, Progressive and Psychedelic Rock with what Zeitgeist/TheRocker magazine calls "a musical prowess".

The fact that the guys in The Usual Haunts are 19 and 20 years old only underscores the sophisticated songwriting ability, flawless performance and incredible production on their album “Living Is Easy”; released August 10, 2016 on Pool Swimmer Records.

It shouldn’t be a huge surprise given the critical acclaim and impact that The Usual Haunts lead singer and producer, Noirre, achieved on his solo releases, “Nite Tales” - and recently, “Nostalgia”.  Tracks from Nostalgia broke into the Top 40 singles in Japan and earned physical distribution to hundreds of Tower Records and HMV stores throughout that country.  Add to it the immense global popularity of the songs, “My Mistakes Were Made For You” and “309” from Nite Tales, and you have an artist with over a million streaming spins and YouTube views.  Listeners and critics alike are hearing and catching on to the quick ascension of this rising talent.

But what makes the debut album from The Usual Haunts (and the band itself) so amazing is that it reflects the compounding effect of Noirre’s songwriting and producing skills with the equally talented performance of guitar virtuoso, CJ Caffrey (aka NATVE), whose abilities remind one of David Gilmour, Eric Clapton and Carlos Santana.  And that is saying a lot.  To have that in one band is beyond rare - but to also bring in the resonating soul of the rhythm section from jazz and rock drummer, Noah Corbitt and multi-instrumentalist, Dustin Soares, creates sonic bliss to every note and every track.  Now you have something special and meteoric in the making.

After two U.S. West Coast tours in 2016 where they performed for thousands of fans, The Usual Haunts are charting their way through 2017 with supernatural abandon fueled by their love to create and engage audiences.
