Despite their vibrant name, and the fact that thier new single 'Pseudocide' sways like one who has overdosed on cherryade and blue smarties, NYC's The Colorines can be dark - although in quirky ways. ‘Everybody said I was gay, and everyone thinks I’m retarded’ they croon, telling a tale full of glorious gallows humour at the freedom that might come from faking your own death. With a merry-go-round lucky bounce to it, the track bounds along, meditatively looping with a circus style psychedelic feel that would have made John Lennon (circa 1967) very happy indeed. Luminous acoustic guitars and smokey melodica arpeggios, a fluffy tickling drum beat, and a weary vocal comprise the arsenal of intoxicating sounds that Robosco, Dwreck, Ozkr and Grim, who formed earlier this year, demonstrated on their recent 'Paleontology' EP. 'Pseudocide' continues on the same trajectory. Fans of foxes should look away now. See them live at Glasslands on July 18. - Francesca Baker - Deli Magazine
It's our pleasure to premiere The Colorines' brand new EP, Paleontology, which is the first batch of songs ever released by this soon to be fountain-of-music. The Colorines are Robosco, Dwreck, Ozkr and Grim, and formed earlier this winter. “Each member brought a song or two from either a previous band or one they had been sitting on” Dwreck tells us, creating a mini-smorgasbord of instant classics.
The EP starts off with “You’ll Forget This”, which is possibly the most memorable song of the lot (go figure). A beautiful melody paired with a muted bass and baroque harmonies reminds us of something off of The Beach Boys' “Holland” or "Friends" records.
Other stand out tracks include the haunting and retrospective ballad "Pseudosyde", the theme song to the 21st century loner. Dwreck takes lead on the number singing lines like: “everybody thinks that I died” and “I don’t see them crying over me, everyone’s having some, and I’ma get me some”. One can’t help but feel optimistic, although this song seems to be derived from nostalgia and those crappy high school years of days gone by.
Though we are totally getting into the darker tones of The Colorines, adding a more upbeat song like “Haircut” towards the end of the EP comes with a sigh of relief. A stream of consciousness about haircuts, hot moms and Facebook-stalking paired with Dr. Dog-like harmonies and a catchy bass and rhythm section that a young Beck would have been jealous of, makes this a great song to welcome Spring (or at least welcome the extra hour we’ve been rewarded by daylight savings).
The EP closes with “The Postmodern Life”, which hits us back again with darker notes but also remains to be the most driving song we’ve heard yet from the Colorines. The chorus is catchy and relatable to every 20 something living in the city: “...coming off a bad year, tell me where you’ve been all the time? ...even if it’s greener on the other side, keeping a live but you can’t make it high…” Maybe it should be renamed "The Postcollege Life"?
The band says to be on the look out for NYC show dates this spring and a full-length in the very near future. We are patiently waiting for more from the Colorines.- Sam Kogon (@samkoogon) - Deli Magazine
It's hard to be a new four piece band classified under the genre of indie-pop. There are a lot of bands filled with dudes who wear tight pants with cool haircuts and sing about feelings and ex-girlfriends and being really chill. The Colorines set themselves apart, though—despite having a song called "Haircut" off their recent self-released EP Paleontology that talks about dope haircuts and Facebook stalking.
Anyway, hailing from upstate New York, these guys have just released a new video for their single, "Peach Tree," which Noisey is premiering above. The video takes place in the woods and is a translucent dream centered around the band eating jellybeans and playing around with colorful smoke things. This video basically looks like a lot of fun in slow motion that we want to be a part of. One of the dudes is also playing a paint splattered acoustic bass guitar and all of it is awesome. - Noisey

Bio
Formed in January 2014, the Colorines are a four-piece dream punk band. Half the members are from upstate New York, the other half from the city. Originally beginning as a garage music collective, they have since evolved into a fully-fledged band.
Their discography began with Paleontology, a five-song EP released March of this 2014. They have sense release a video single for their song "Peach Tree" in may of 2014.
Lyrically and musically, the Colorines tear a jagged path through your typical, topical psychedelic canon with backhanded and dry humor. With songs about childhood reminiscence, faking one's own death, dream sequences, self-depreciation, scholastic embarrassment, and fossil fuels, they (quote) "weave a sophisticated air of effortless psychodrama and grade-school inelegance."
