"Tim Noyes & Nelly Levon "Airport""

Gentle rockers Noyes & Levon have americana voices with real texture and a warmth you just can't teach. "Airport" is quietly impressive, like a soliloquy in a play, and is built in a simple construction around a solid melody/vocal line. These two show real potential as artists and you won't be surprised to see them a decade or two down the road. While not flashy, they deliver solid, impressive performances. Thoughtful lyrics with the occasional twist of wit highlight arrangements that seem to write themselves. - Wildy's World

"Augustine Record Interview with Nelly Levon"

The experience of working with Devito and Chapin is 100% about passion... Hearing the legendary collection of gear in play at Retrophonics when we are recording... Collaborating on all the angles of songwriting... Delving into the nitty gritty of the what we want to say, how we want to say it and the feeling we want to share out there... It all came together with these fellas. The passion each of them has for what they do respectively, is evident in the music we produced and where we took this album experience. - The Saint Augustine Record Art & Music

"Grooviest Of Groove On Grove"

I was all ready to come up with some clever sentence about one of the GROOviest of the Groove on Grove bands played the Final Groove on Grove when I found out that it’s next week that’s the grand finale, which will feature the great local band, Any Day Parade, who opened this year’s series.

For the Next-to-Final Groove on Grove, the Devyl Nellys played and in terms of laying down a groove, they just might take the Grove Street cake. I have to say, an exceptional bunch of cats. They have the touch of a Jam Band about them, in fact, I would describe them as a concise Jam Band. The Jams did not sprawl or wallow. They were purposeful without undermining the improvisational attitude. They sustained an infectious groove in nearly every song; I found my hands involuntarily clapping along. I had to suppress an urge to stand up and shimmy in time. Some bluesy soul inflected numbers opened the set which went on to include a straight out country rock song and a straight out reggae song, both pretty awesome. The female singer would strap on a guitar sometimes; what looked like the band leader played acoustic rhythm guitar, even strapping on the harmonica holder for some multi-music-tasking. They even played an instrumental bluegrass type ditty, where the aforementioned played the mandolin—during one instrumental break he plucked out a quote of The Flintstones theme song—witty, clever and revealing a refreshing musical adeptness. This band had all cylinders firing, with some particularly excellent lead guitar, a kind of wah wah noodling, accentuated by deliberate statements. Just damn entertaining and impressive playing & material.

The first day of autumn still felt like summer and I guess summer gets another week with the Final Groove on Grove. I chatted briefly with Anthony Susco (who has this blog featuring upcoming Jersey City events), curator of the series. He deserves congratulations. The sophomore year of this free summer music series I found fantastic. I don’t post on it every week, because that would be boring, but I usually stay for a while at least. It’s a tough gig for the musician; most folks are passing through, heading from or to NYC, waiting for a bus to the Heights. If they are hanging out, more often than not it’s for a reason other than the music. Yet, the music is consistently good. It’s a great way to sample the currency among our area’s young, unsigned musicians. My one complaint is that there should be more seating and more seating closer to the stage and maybe, a beverage vendor. But Groove on Grove is one of the things about J.C. that works as planned. The setting is perfect for enjoying the summer, the music is always entertaining. It’s just so damn pleasant. And, as with the Devyl Nellys, sometimes there are flashes of brilliance to behold. - Timothy Herrick for Huffington Dislocations

Bio

The Devyl Nellys weave a grooving web of funk and soul laced up with just the right flecks of sparkly pop and rock. Listen to one of their songs and just try to stand still – you won’t be able to. When you see them play, you’ll have a great time without even trying. No other band enjoys themselves more than this New York City and Philadelphia based, six-piece celebration of all that’s infectiously good about music.

In 2011, After writing songs for Interscope, Mercury, and Relentless Records recording artists, lead vocalist Nelly Levon introduced her bright pop choruses and witty, profound lyrics to the dancey rythyms, moving tempos and tasty guitar licks crafted by guitarist/vocalist Max Lopez, bassist/vocalist Ben Scott, keyboardist Will Kienzle, drummer John Roccessano and backing vocalist Aja Nisenson and The Devyl Nellys were formed.

A true live band, they have played over 120 dates in 2014 and will have played over 180 dates by the end of 2015, including taking the stage at festivals, colleges, universities, various music venues, radio stations and in the NASCAR Coca-Cola and the NHRA Mellow Yellow hot rod Summer Concerts Series. They've rocked many an enthralled crowd at venues like the Southland Ballrom in Raleigh, North Carolina and the Double Door in Charlotte, North Carolina. Audience members witnessing the Nellys throw their hands in the air and let it loose as Nelly commands percussion and John pounds out a masterful drum solo. The Devyl Nellys have toured with Marshall Crenshaw, Bobby Bare Jr, Caroline Rose and Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band. As DJ Trevor Power from WRNJ Radio Station puts it: "The Devyl Nellys put on a fun, funk, jam like no other."

Their major debut LP "Too Much Information" engineered at Blackbird Studios in Nashville TN by John McBride and at Retrophonics Studios in Saint Augustine FL by Jim Devito, dropped in April 2014 on Mondo Tunes / Universal Music Group (UMG). It has landed these bohemian funksters on the radars of the alternative and jam music scene. The Devyl Nellys are truly a band for these complex times. Their songs shine a light on dark, low points in modern living and loving, while offering rhythms, rhymes and laughs to help us all cope through it. They will release their second album in April 2016, engineered at Blackbird Studios in Nashville TN by John McBride and Vini Miranda. John Oates, of legendary hitmaker duo Hall & Oates and fan, friend and guiding star to The Devyl Nellys ... Upon hearing one of their upcoming singles "Baad Seed" raved: " 'Baad Seed' is BBAAAADD. LOVE  THIS  Tune. Looking forward to the rest of the album!"

The Devyls' music has been placed in key television spots:  Discovery, Lifetime, ESPN, FX, NFL Network, Super Bowl Week, Super Bowl, NASCAR and NHRA Hot Rod. Their music has appeared in the films The Fast and The Furious 6 and 7, on the NASCAR Official Soundtrack and Video Apps (2014 and 2015), NASCAR Members Club (2014 and 2015).  NASCAR Video PS3 / XBOX 360 / PC Soundtrack (2014 and 2015) Including The Game Inside Line, Sprint Cup Series, Infinity Cup Series, Semi-Finals / Finals Championships Rounds.

A funky, good time force to be reckoned with, The Devyl Nellys are the perfect band to shake yourself up with and get down to. May the funk be with you.
