"Forced Perspective Review"

This is the latest Corsaut and after doing my initial research I found a few words that really struck me; Thomas Corsaut is an artist from Orange County, CA. A definite D.I.Y. musician. Self producing music and video from his own sometimes dark perspective.

There is always a goal in his music to allow the listener to take an auditory double-take and question their own interpretations especially in regards to the lyrics. I always listen to the opening track extremely carefully. It’s the opening track the artists has selected to hit your ears first and foremost. The opening track “Slinky” sets the stage perfectly for a CD like this. It was a great intro piece that stuck in my head. All in all the whole CD is brilliantly delivered with a richly woven Alternative-Rock textures and songs that have serious staying power melodically. Music will remind you of Big Talk, Keane, White Lies, Mark Stoermer, Porcupine Tree and a few others I can’t think of at the moment. To be honest I can’t say enough about Corsaut’s signature sound. Musical Genera is Melodic-Poppy-Alternative Rock-Punk. Truth be told I’ve never heard a band or artists so skillfully combine so many genera’s into one unique sound.

The songs that stuck with me the most were “Pray and Scream” and “Slinky.”

Bottom Line: If there was one word I would use to describe Corsaut it would be diversified. This CD will simply make your day more entertaining, but beware Corsaut is one artist not so easily pinned down during the first listen. Dive into the lyric sheet and you will become even more mystified. Let me go on record and say Corsaut is a bit comparable to a musical chameleon. In close “Forced Perspective” is a musical experience you will return to again and again – picking out something you may have missed the first time.

"Indie Music Digest Review"

La Habra based Singer/Songwriter Thomas Corsaut just released his latest effort entitled Forced Perspective in 2012. How would you describe an artist like Thomas Corsat: Eclectic blend of acoustic musings, thought provoking lyrics and stylistic guitar. Within "The Thief and the Magpie" album Thomas Corsaut explores multiple avenues of unique musical storytelling

The CD kicks things off with “Slinky” a slamming rock groove ditty that serves up impressive horns, infectious guitars, driving rock rhythm against no holds barred vocal delivery from Corsaut. Track 2 “Honest Look” shifts gears a bit with heartfelt vocal delivery meshed with impressive acoustic guitar ambience meshed against thought provoking lyrical content that flows and ebbs it’s way though to emotional fruition. Track 3 “Tremble” keeps things moving with its dynamic musical build impressive guitar ambience, effective vocal harmonies and strong melody. As the CD quickly unfolds I can hear influences ranging from Talking Heads, to Beck, Elliott Smith, The Shins and even They Might be Giants. The music has everything you would expect from a melodic guitar driven Alternative Rock CD. The vocals are effective, melodic and well done. The guitar playing is hot to the touch. There are also touches of Classic Jam band but with a 70’s Psychedelic-Rock flair. Corsaut’s vocal style works extremely well with this style of music. I might add his timing is spot on and his vocal intensity strives to not try to hard – dead in the pocket. I also noticed a few hot to the touch guitar solos along the way. Besides the 4 piece standard I can also hear well placed percussive accents, impressive horns, harmonica, effective ambient touches, rock solid slide guitar, and lush harmonies all built upon a thick as a brick rhythm section. Corsaut is an accomplished composer, guitarist, vocalist no doubt. His vocal style reminds me of a cross between Layne Staley (Alice in Chains) and Mike Patton (Faith no More). What I like most about the music is its sheer unpredictability and song for song vibe. By track 5 the CD hits solid stride dishing out many impressive songs in a row. This latest CD from Corsaut delivers 9 tracks all providing an interesting snapshot of an amazing artist with thought provoking lyrical wisdom with messages that are entertaining, passionate and extremely captivating. From my personal favorite “Sand & Paper” to hypnotic “Pray and Scream” to grooving “Fall in from Grace” to melodic “Voodoo Doll” to dynamic Ghost Whispering” this CD pretty much has something for just about everyone.

9 songs is a bit short for a full length release. Perhaps 2 or 3 songs is needed to make it a fully loaded release.

This latest release from Thomas Corsaut is a rock solid musical statement from start to finish. It's strength – the strong song for song consistency and impressive songwriting touch that keeps coming at you. At the end of the day Corsaut is just a fun and carefree artists to check out with a dash of mystery on the side. There’s not a weak song on this entire catalogue period! The musicianship is first rate, the songs are consistent musical experiences. Each one possessing a unique personality, flair, and signature groove. The music is rock solid, grooving and will get you jumping. What am I trying to say? Thomas Corsaut rocks that’s what! - Indie Music Digest
