From the eerily melodic to the trance-inducing, rhythmic sound loops, Violinda captivates with her hypnotic strings in her latest album “Dichotomy.” This 4-track, avant-garde soundscape will transport you to distant realms of fantasy, awe, wonder and revelation.
Atomic Mass Ratio and Song Two make you feel like raising a tankard of ale in your favorite medieval tavern on a pagan holiday. Violinda blends Celtic elements together to create a beautifully crafted melody that soothes the soul. Orchestral Chaos starts off dark and somewhat mysterious, as if the curtains are drawn on stage to reveal Faust making a pact with the grim Mephistopheles. It gradually builds up to a more liberating feeling as the pace quickens and the bow soars on higher notes. Violinda wraps it up with Transitions. Feelings of despair arise as this song is a tribute to a late, dear friend of hers. But the listener is reminded that in the end all is not lost, merely transitioned into something greater.
Violinda’s music can best be described as post-classical, avant-garde experimentalism, and “Dichotomy” is a clear showcase of such description. This talented, young artist is on her way to distinguish herself amid the Austin live band scene; enthralling the crowd and leaving a lasting impression wherever she goes.

Messages, Berkshire Hounds, Violinda, Mother Falcon
Empire Garage, Jan. 2
Cold generally remains the great bête noire of live music, even for a free show. Those braving icebox temperatures and a bullying rain were treated to warm, full-bodied performances. String instruments quickly became a motif, starting with Violinda, a talented Texas State student with the germane sobriquet. She played her 20 years' experience into layers of information, understanding the rules of her instrument as she deconstructs them. Power-everything band Berkshire Hounds howled into the chilly night, playing with an approachable appeal. The jazzy blues-rock and Sixties Brit combinations always led to excellent and powerful pop choruses. Messages, formerly known as Mighty Mountain, provided a positive and politically tinged collection of songs teeming with knockout hooks. Their peaking energy was the norm, equally adept at country hoedown and sounds reminiscent of early Coldplay. Not-so-surprise guest Mother Falcon cut through the dark chill with a dynamic close. Ranging from raucous to meditative, the 10-piece constantly turned the page from disjointed orchestra to dance-punk ensemble and harmonized schizophrenia. - Austin Chronicle
Appropriately dubbed Siren Sound Temple, an all-female fronted day of music will occupy the afternoon, evening, and night at Cheer Up Charlie’s this Saturday. As they continue to book Austin’s exciting up-and-coming acts and provide a forum for new voices such as the monthly comedy and storytelling event Greetings, From Queer Mountain, Cheer Up Charlie’s increasingly makes a case for themselves as the city’s most important venue. Siren Sound Temple offers further evidence in that regard.
The show will run from 3:00 PM until the venue’s close at 2:00 AM and costs just $12 at the door. The bill features an incredible variety of rock, garage, folk, and pop acts along with other musicians more and less traditional. Among the performers are Megafauna, Tinnarose, Mom Jeans, Violinda, Magia Negra, Panoramas, Annabelle Chairlegs, The Harms, and many more. Below you can check out music from some of these acts. - Pop Press International
The Mohawk
The performance Monday night at The Mohawk was nothing short of spectacular. With a collaborative line-up of talented, young, beat dropping artists combined with mind-warping light projections by Ether Wave and Mustachio Light Show, staying up late on a Monday night just made your grueling morning commute worthwhile.
Opening the night onstage was Mars Wright as Honey Son. Returning from a two-year hiatus, this solo star captivated the audience with his rhythmic soul samples and transcendental guitar melodies. As a one-man band, Honey Son was able to deliver a full performance by layering melodic and rhythmic samples, resulting in a whimsical cadence. Complete with smooth, mellow vocals, Honey Son combined elements of jazz, psychedelic rock, blues and shoegaze to create a dreamlike state comparable to, well, honey.
Enter Violinda; violin goddess donning a golden tiara. She enthralled and enchanted her audience by creating an eerie and mysterious atmosphere with Celtic overtones which instantly transported you to a tree-lined road shrouded by mist and long forgotten tombstones. Violinda looped her samples throughout her performance, but if her hypnotic strings didn’t captivate you, her broad-spectrum voice surely did. Her last piece, ‘Transitions’, let you see a gleam of hope through a field of despair. A tribute to a late dear friend of hers, ‘Transitions’ left you with an emotional imprint that says: All is not lost, only transformed. - Austin Live Review

Bio
Violinda is a solo instrumental violin project that consists of strong melodies that has been enhanced with various effects pedals to enhance her sound. Violinda's background consists of 20 years of violin. She started at age 6 while her older brother taught her suzuki method. She joined symphonic orchestra from jr.high school till college. She has been to world renown music camps as well as studied music composition as a major until she made music her minor. From performing in gypsy folk rock bands to country/americana bands, her diverse back ground in music has given her a leg up in inspiration on creating the antithesis of it. “My music sounds almost nothing like my previous bands that I have played in, but I can't say that it hasn't influenced me. Pushing the violin out of context and into arenas of music that you might have never found it to be in or have any business in to begin with is where I like to start my songs with.” Violinda was first created July of 2013 after a few weeks of experimenting with loop pedals and effects pedals. She quickly started to play at house shows and venues in the Austin and San Marcos area. Since her beginning to February of 2015 she has played over 70 shows, 9 festivals, and has done a Mid West tour January 2015 with the drummer from Bright Eyes Matt Focht and Andrew Bird's guitarist Jeremy Ylvisaker. Violinda's debut album “Dichotomy” was recorded and produced at Elmwood studios in Dallas Tx by 2015 Grammy winner John Congelton who has recorded St. Vincent's most recent album Digital Witness as well as Alex Bhore from This Will Destroy You. Her album and shows have caught the eye of The Austin Chronicle and other news mediums. She is currently pushing the envelop in what is expected in live music venues across Texas. She has opened for George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic, Rasputina, Mother Falcon, Messages, Amy Lavere, Hikes, and other well known acts.
