"ZOM Nebulos"

January 9 ·
ZOM - Nebulos
I like fuzz. I like it on my breakfast, I like it in my drinks. Hell, I like fuzz in my pants and in my head. Do I love fuzz more than my family? Hard to say. But fuzz has never made me get up at 3.00am because it heard a sound downstairs or announced on Sunday evening that a school project needs to be finished - you decide. Needless to say, Zom like a lot of fuzz. Fusing all that is great about dirty stoner rock’n’roll, they sound like the satan-spawned bastard offspring between Stoner, Hard Rock and attitude - which is to say fucking brilliant. This is punk blues powered by high octane riffs that are cranked out with scant disregard for niceties, urged on by a cleanish vocal style that has a passionate and urgent rasp to it. Precision, scalpel sharp solos are strewn over the songs in all the right places, giving you a collection of tunes that demand to be played again and again. And for a bonus in this day and age of heavier than thou, someone has remembered to write tracks with decent hook-lines that make the whole Nebulos album scream by in a satisfying blur of foot-stomping thuggery.

Madman Tony Maim hitting it out of the park once again, just like those ZOM crazies. What a record! Nebulos! Which will be released upon the world on January 19th!

"Danger ZOM"

English Translation:

ZOM (not to be confused with the Irish-named Black Death band) was born in 2014 when members of MONOLITH WIELDER and BRIMSTONE COVEN decided to join forces. For those who know the respective directories of their original formations, we will not be really surprised to find that Nebulos turns out to be a good big electric ball.

In order not to give in the repetition and legitimize the creation of ZOM, the group is part of a practice less massive than MONOLITH WIELDER (read the chronicle of the first album: click here) and more stocky than BRIMSTONE COVEN (read the chronicle from their latest album: click here). ZOM takes its inspiration from the fundamentals of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal of the 70's but the practice in frankly edgy and thickened mode: the low rumble is so present and the riffs so tarry that the reference to the sound of the Stoner would not be usurped, even if, overall, the writing of the pieces is more of the hairy Heavy Rock. In short, fans of CORROSION OF CONFORMITY can without worry find their happy heaviness and bluesy feeling (superb guitar solos!).
To complete the picture, the rough and rough song adopts enough modulations to be neither horrifying nor monotonous.

Nebulos is traversed by a psychedelic layer (more peaceful passages, pedal wah-wah) which brings an additional dimension at the same time as it diversifies and energizes the whole, contrasts helping. This lysergic side allows to expand the potential audience of ZOM for example by summoning fans of MONSTER MAGNET and NEBULA. You will easily understand, Nebulos is a strong start in mouth. - Metal Integral

"ZOM Nebulos"

Punkte: 8/10

Anspieltipp: Nebulos/Alien, Solitary

English Translation:
The band ZOM from the USA make their debut on the market in January with "Nebulos" and that is exactly what lies in my player for the next review.

With the typical Stoner guitar sound, the first song "Nebulos / Alien" is initiated and together with the rest of the band a beautiful groovy sound carpet is laid, which then introduces into the first stanza. The singer has a very rough, powerful voice that fits the song and it's really fun to listen to the Americans. Every instrument is easy to hear here and the musicians manage to keep one in good spirits. Nothing comes to the fore or seems unprofessional. Polyphonic guitar riffs meet a rattling bass. The mid-tempo firecracker is dosed just right by the drums, and above all stands the very expressive vocals, which give the whole thing the necessary spice.

Up to the song number four, "Solitary", to which there is also a video on Youtube, not much is turned on the Grooveschraube, because only on this track, the guys step on the brakes, which does not harm the fun factor. The longer I listen to the man on the mic, the more he reminds me of Joey Belladonna, which is to be understood as praise.

Among the influences of the band include Black Sabbath and Soundgarden, which you hear every now and then. And that is not to be interpreted negatively. On the contrary, I think that despite the parallels to the bands mentioned, ZOM have developed and developed their own style. Even after the third or fourth round, the disc does not get boring and ZOM takes us into their own musical world.
The remaining pieces have been composed in ZOM style without delivering significant dropouts or highlights. With a total of nine songs and a playing time of just under forty-five minutes, there's nothing to moan about.

Conclusion:
I can recommend ZOM from America to any fan of the Stoner Rock / Grunge genre. The guys have their own style mix and the disc does not seem boring at any time. Who likes Soundgarden and / or Black Sabbath, should listen in here, because it's exactly these fans who will address the band with their debut.

Points: 8/10

"ZOM Nebulos"

Now this is a heavy beast. If you like your stoner gritty, gutsy and uncompromising then say hello to ZOM from Pittsburgh, USA. Nebulos is 45 minutes of gnarly tubthumping riffage that sounds like the bastard offspring of Orange Goblin and Crowbar.
Opener Nebulos/Alien is pacey with some scorching riffs.
The band comprises Gero von Dehn (vocals and guitar), Andrew D'Cagna (bass) and Ben Zerbe (drums), stalwarts of Brimstone Coven and Monolith Wielder and they take no prisoners.
It's sludgy without being slow to the point of cessation with massive hooks and blisteringly heavy power chords. Whilst much stoner rock sounds like Black Sabbath repackaged, ZOM grab you with a slightly different approach. They aim to crush from the off. Tracks such as "Burning" and "Gifters" pound but there's a slightly lighter feel to "Solitary". The gallup of "There's Only Me" and the smoldering "Final Breath" also stand out on an album that sits neatly in the upper echelons of the genre. - Power Play Magazine

Bio

ZOM is a powerhouse of groove laden, heavy rock n' roll with great hooks and strong melodies..
Begun as a recording project In 2014, experienced and multifaceted music vets Gero von Dehn and Andrew D’Cagna joined forces once again. Frontman Gero von Dehn, who also currently sings and plays guitar for Pittsburgh, PA’s Doom/Stoner powerhouse, Monolith Wielder (Argonauta Records) founded the project and enlisted his frequent partner in crime, D’Cagna. Von Dehn previously sang for groove-heavy rockers, Von Dane, whom D'Cagna recorded in his studio, Sacred Sound.
D’Cagna has a wide range of projects on his resume including playing bass and contributing vocals for occult rockers, Brimstone Coven. He is also the vocalist for classic metallers Icarus Witch and Ironflame

ZOM’s debut self titled EP was recorded in 2014 and limited to a release of under 100 copies.
Von Dehn sang and recorded guitars while D’Cagna supplied drums and bass but with the members' many outside commitments, a full band was never assembled to go on tour.
In 2017 ZOM returned with newly recorded material as well as some additions. The official full length release titled Nebulos was released on Argonauta Records (Italy) in January of 2018. Following the release, ZOM began going out on the road and consequently some additional members were enlisted. Von Dehn remained on vocals and guitar and Ben Zerbe took over on drums.  Zerbe contributed drums to three new songs on the Nebulos full length.

To round out the lineup, ZOM added guitarist Matthew Tuite (Blackfinger, ex Penance) and bassist Sam Pesce (Del Rios).

The band entered the studio in March of 2020 to record their sophomore LP with Steel City go-to Jason Jouver engineering but the pandemic slowed down completion and release plans.  Now armed with a fresh record deal with upstart, StoneFly Records, ZOM will issue the album sometime in early 2022.  The album was recorded and mixed at Plus/Minus and then sent to legendary producer, Jack Endino for mastering in Seattle, WA.
